Guy at my range busted his out a few weekends ago and the concussion from the brake made almost everyone leave. It was rattling my teeth from 5 lanes over. I said "Man, that is fucking ridiculous" in a passive aggressive way and he just smiles and says "I know. Wanna shoot it?" I asked if he was sure since it's like $3 per round and he said go for it.

It was ridiculous. I was wrecking the big steel gongs at 700y like it was nothing. The energy that .50 BMG brings downrange is absurd. Really fun but not sure I'd drop that kind of money on one.

Adding that the recoil was WAY less than I expected but the brake is so insanely loud that you almost feel beat up after 5 rounds. It's a really powerful concussive blast.

unless you have somewhere long distance to shoot it on the regular they are not really worth owning one IMO, plus some ranges don't allow them I have seen. you could buy 6 or more guns for the same price and not have to pay $2.50-$5.00 a shot. but if you have money to burn for the lulz go for it

Just gonna say that 99% of the people that I know that own one usually have theirs sitting in it's case for most of the time and almost never shoot it because of how much of a chore it is to take it to the range.

Yeah like I said most people left. It’s a 1000 yard range and most of the members are really dedicated long range shooters. Imagine trying to concentrate and stay steady when there are random explosions going off next to you. The muzzle blast is even worse from the sides because of the brake. He probably shot 25 rounds and let me and a couple other guys shoot 5 each.

Barrett was basically made for 100y shots, it's a 2-3moa autocannon meant for wrecking materiel not for precision shots.

How difficult is it to find shooting land, public or private, where it's really worthwhile shooting a Barrett? Say I want to plink brick targets from a mile and a half or whatever, where the hell do people go? In my mind I guess most Barrettfags live in the west and especially the southwest.

without a suppressor, the loudness of an m82/m107 even at 29" is around 175 db
w/36 db of hearing protection you're still well over the mark
