Well for that money I could but a decent used 270 with a cheap scope, a semi shotgun and a cheap wonder 9. For 1000 you could make pretty much anything from a sub gun, shotgun, howdah pistol to a mortar, tell with a shop press and a lathe you could probably even make a reasonable rifle with a reamer and a button and some decent chome molly drilled bars

I'd just start a blacksmithing workshop
