Time to ask this for the millionth time and hopefully actually get an answer: The forces site is lean on info, so what do I want to do if my goal is to go commissioned the canadian reserves?
Lincoln Clark
calling any and all 15t/15u helicopter repairers. has anyone become a crew chief? whats it like? how like as a regular repairer before you get to be a crew chief? anybody dropped a packet for 160th?
I imagine something in a carrier group since those go anywhere that shit starts brewing.
Brandon Nelson
which 91 series jobs should I look into for civ opportunities and maybe promotions Really like 91F and 91K but those probably dont present much room for growth eh. 91A seems fun but there might be too many heads in it?
Caleb Roberts
by civ opportunities, I mean jobs when my contract is up. I only wanna do my 3-4 years so gotta make it worth it
Blake Ross
not canadian, but heres what i could find in the few minutes. doesnt seem like any forum resources from what i could find
you know you can (and should) use the GI bill to get a degree, right? so it really doesn't matter what you do if you just want to get a job afterwards. leverage your GI bill and fluff up your army experience on your resume. Do good shit in school and then move on with your life.
Henry Morgan
I'm 26, not trying to do 4 years in army and then 4 years in school
Henry Bailey
so are you just never going to get a degree? a lot of jobs have a ceiling if you can't even shit out a degree. idk shit about maintenance gigs in the army and their transferring to the civ world but gunsmiths make fuck all unless they're specialists and have a reputation which are few and far between. everything else you're probably just a wrench monkey if it's like every other mechanical job in the military. even aircraft mechanics don't get out making as much money as people claim, unless they got certified on various things while in and went the extra mile to do so.
Thomas Morales
if anything I'll do 91C and go to some bumfuck 6 month school for my certs after not trying to make 6 figures, I just want to be comfortable
Owen Ward
well good luck, I don't know the prospects of it post-service, i just shill getting a degree because you literally get paid to do it and it helps you a lot more than any MOS would.
Gabriel Williams
I can do it during my service? Sounds very time consuming and I wouldn't know what to study
William Richardson
You won't be able to finish a degree using tuition assistance alone. Even if you could go full time (you can't) you'd be unable to due to the dollar amount you get per year for TA (tuition assistance). If you did want to get a head start using TA then I'd recommend going to whatever school is convenient that has a BRICK AND MORTAR INSTITUTION (it's better that way even when doing it online) and just taking bullshit courses that are required for all degree programs. This way if you wanted to take up school as a transfer student later on, you would hopefully skip a lot of the bullshit classes like college algebra, english 101, american history/politics. The classes are absurdly easy usually and you just have to do them.
Warning, however. If you do intend to get a degree and have a school in mind, look at their transfer student requirements. Colleges define it as they see fit but a "transfer student" is almost always a student who has any college post-high school, and they usually require a certain number of credits if you want to transfer into their school. Usually it's 20-30 credits. If you used up your full TA allowance (assuming still $4500/year) then you can get 18 credits/year max. I believe soldiers can do TA now right after AIT, so that means on a 3 year contract you could be extremely proactive and shit out 30 credits if you had to.
2 classes at a time isn't really that big of a workload, it just means you have homework every few nights or so. You can always just take a class to test the waters and figure out what works for you. It's free money.
Noah Parker
A lot of the education benefits seem overwhelming at first to leverage, but there will be someone who can help you that has done it all before and people are generally supportive. Worst case, every base has an education office and they can help or point you in the right direction.
Jaxon Foster
Oh shit just checked, Army (and probably everyone) limits it to 16 credit hours a year. So even at the maximum pace you'll hit the ceiling and be forced to slow down. 1 class is usually 3 credit hours for reference.
I'm off for awhile but good luck, school or no school. I posted a lot of this in case any passerby is curious about the same benefits because I probably won't be back for a bit to talk on it. GI Bill basically covers any school in the nation and a lot of top schools treat vets like minorities when it comes to applications. Not that you don't have to jump through the same bullshit hoops, but you've got a decent shot if you put in the work on the application and testing.
Too few guys get in and get out without using their benefits.
but wait I thought GI bill paid for everything? dollar amount?
Ayden Moore
ok this is for real my last post so sorry if it doesn't suffice GI pays for everything for ANY public institution in the US. There is no set dollar amount for that. Dollar amounts come into play when you go to a private institution, in which case the GI Bill pays up the max in-state public tuition amount and then the school will effectively pay the rest due to the Yellow Ribbon Program (look it up) which you have to apply for and is usually first-come, first-served. It's not quite that simple but it's enough to put your mind at ease and allow research to be done beforehand.
So...public state school? 100% covered ezpz. Expensive private school? Covered up to max state tuition and then you need to use Yellow Ribbon Program to cover the rest. Private schools like that also usually have generous financial aid if you really end up needing it, but worst case you're in a fraction of the debt a non-vet is going to be in for the education you actually want. You're also poor as fuck according to your tax records as an enlisted guy which works in your favor for financial aid.
I'm shutting down now and this thread probably dies before I'm back so I hope that answers it.
Angel Gonzalez
well okay, I didn't really plan to go to a private school anyway. I'm just looking for a quick steady career path and I think 91 series might be a good option
Ethan Sullivan
reposting if nobody minds.
Huge thanks, tankie user. All great info nobody ever tells you ahead of time, or can find online.
How much of a nightmare is it for an armor lieutenant is NTC anyway? I've read up on some stories about it, it seems a lot of 'show initiative and don't you dare screw up' mindset. how easy is it to lose a PL or even TC slot there?
Levi Myers
are there any jobs in the navy where I can work on the boat, fix it up, refuel it, etc on port, without having to actually deploy on it? or at least not deploy on it as often
Welcome to Intel, basically "can't talk about that here" is said about 30 times a day. If you want 35N just know it's fucking awesome, your schooling takes place at Goodfellow in Texas. The schooling is not hard, it's beginner and designed to introduce you and build you into Intel, think of basic, they are not there to destroy you but to teach you etc. Not Army but I worked with them at Goodfellow in SIGINT. I can answer some questions you may have.
Hunter Martinez
Almost forgot you will be surrounded by nerds, weebs, fat women and it's really relaxed. I hope you love sitting in front of computers all day in a vault. The entire curriculum is in the classroom. Don't get fat during training just because your not putting out for PT. Airforce dining facility is good.
Anthony Campbell
Any UK infantry here? Is it worth it? I want something exciting and I've heard most of the qualifications you get from the Army are useless in civilian world anyway. Would I land a decent civil service job or even police/fireman afterwards?
Justin Gonzalez
In this day and age pal you have to excel to be comfortable.
Jordan Ross
The navy tells you you'll see the world, but you'll mostly see ocean because the world is mostly an ocean.

Jacob Anderson
Alright dudes i coilsnt get a decent answer from Jow Forums so im going ti ask here because i think odds are one or two of yall must have been in a similar situation to me. Going to put this bluntly. I need to get the fuck out of town asap, and i dont honeslty think i have any other option than the army. I gotta lose 35 pounds and im good to go. What is the fastest way to do this? Way i see it i have two options from fit. 1) Eat low calorie and work out a fuck ton or 2) Legit stop eating for a month. What do i do?
Dylan Collins
Well I mean, which navy jobs tend to hit the most ports?
Luis Martinez
There’s no way you got sent to meps 35lbs overweight, so what do you mean by “good to go”
Jacob Allen
Recruiter said everything else checked out, drop 35lbs and come back.
Zachary Walker
Thanks for visiting our thread but don't you have to get up for school soon?
Jace Walker
If youre very desperate, and this is a very serious and not a joke post: >cardio morning and evening until you hit 1000 calories burned during each session. >1 cup of blueberries, frozen or fresh for lunch >1tbsp of peanut butter (any kind) for lunch >multi vitamin, plus fish oil, plus calcium
I stupidly did this for 2 weeks straight and lost 27lbs, went from chunky monkey to skinny fat.
I was in the same situation as you, but had less time. Day of meps, i drank a shit ton of gatorade. Immediately once i got to the air port i started working my way back to eating regular food. At osut i strictly ate eggs, spinach, and fish to get my body back on track.
Blake Davis
Saw army recruiter and took practice asvab got an 88. Going for 13F Op40. How accurate is practice asvab as a predictor of actual asvab grade?
Daniel Taylor
Is it hard to qualify for? Is there a lot of room for promotion? Any degrees I should pursue while in?
Bentley Hall
I want to be in an opfor unit, is there anyway to get a guaranteed duty station in your contract or do I have to cross my fingers?
Carson Cruz
Get an airborne contract, when at airborne put ft polk on your assignment satisfaction key
Jonathan Evans
I want to be a paratrooper. Should I join the 82nd or 173 and why? The 82nd has more history but I seldom here about the 173rd
Also, even if theyre not paratroopers im still thinking about the 101st. Ill be commissioning as an infantry officer
>LTs at NTC Getting fired isn't common, but it does happen. You have to be pretty bad (alternate: be responsible for a major safety incident, I'm talking millions of dollars in damage or guys maimed/killed) in order for your chain of command to think that replacing you with a boot LT is going to be an improvement. The bigger risk is revealing yourself to be generally incompetent, although keep in mind here that the bar for that is "well below average". For even an average LT an NTC rotation will build your cred and possibly even your job satisfaction.
That being said, the pressure is real (it's even realer for more senior officers, what you get is just a trickle down from them). It's a much, much different experience than just being a private.
The whole thing is intended to be a test which you (actually, your unit) will not be able to perform flawlessly. You don't have to be a stud or anything, if you just apply what you get taught before you show up you'll be fine.
Jeremiah Kelly
>Should I join the 82nd or 173 and why? If you get the choice (you won't) you want the 173rd because they live in fucking Italy.
Nicholas Wilson
Seabees. We do tactical, humanitarian, and state department shit all over creation.
Lincoln Baker
Okay man. Thanks.
Thomas Ortiz
whats the daily life of an infantry officer like?
Nathan Ross
What most would allow me to work alone in a deployment so I can do what I want
Dominic Sanchez
>You have to be pretty bad (alternate: be responsible for a major safety incident, I'm talking millions of dollars in damage or guys maimed/killed)
You mean like that Russian video of 'hur dur let's have one tank push another with a log while the crew stands around holding the log, oh shit it went wrong and one guy got pulled under the track"
I guess the other question is, how much are you permitted by the People Who Work For A Living to actually help out the physical work on the tanks versus 'sir please go sit in a chair and watch, we'll take care of things so you don't break something' attitudes?
Caleb Myers
how hard is it to get into the PA program or RN as a 68w?
im shipping on the 23rd and was just curious about this as a possibility later in my career

Anyone have advice for picking a branch and job? Getting pushed into cyber stuff because of high grades/scores but I want to do something like combat arms that's only available in the military, just not sure how retarded that is.
Robert Jackson
It's all about what do you want to do, do what you won't be regretting later on.
William Fisher
Ignore the faggot telling you to eat. You need to fast. Eating small amounts just keeps you out of ketosis, don't do it, just stop eating entirely.
>You mean like that Russian video Yeah but what you've got to understand is that you do all sorts of shit around these vehicles that either is or at least intuitively feels pretty unsafe by the standards of typical civilian life. Knowing when the line gets crossed into "somebody is very likely about to die" is not always easy when you're on the ground. Learning about this and hopefully becoming the guy who can make that call is a big part of the job.
Occasional fatalities and general serious accidents are pretty normal at NTC, and even regular field training produces a steady trickle as well. Your job is to make sure that it doesn't happen in your unit.
>how much are you permitted to actually help out the physical work on the tanks Here's one of the big ways that Armor has an advantag in my humble opinion: armor/cav units have a much higher ratio of officers:enlisted and equipment:men than other types of combat units and so a more hands-on approach from at least company officers is not merely permitted but usually expected. Sometimes this means you stay late to do office shit that you could have done during the day but guess what you get paid more and the soldiers have to salute you.
Christopher Parker
cool guy points for life in exchange for being dirt
Ethan Jenkins
>armor/cav units have a much higher ratio of officers:enlisted and equipment:men Look at it this way: an infantry platoon has a bunch of small arms and a few heavy weapons. The platoon leader has a rifle.
An armor platoon has four tanks and the PL owns one of them. Even the company commander is rolling around with a significant portion of his unit's firepower in his personal possession. It's a big difference in mentality.
Brayden Carter
Thanks. I grew up around a bunch of Navy POs, so I'm used to the whole 'sir please go do the paperwork and please stop touching buttons' mentality of handling officers. Much appreciate, very thank, have an M1A3 in return.
If you're going to be a careerist combat arms is ok.
If you're doing one contract, government cyber can give you 120k on the outside vs infantry's peanuts.
Parker Young
>cyber can give you 120k on the outside not him, but is this with a degree?
Juan Clark
>recon is an MOS, its a special unit you need yo apply for >in reality, its not that special >have to navigate the enlisted MOS's to find your best route to Recon/,Marsoc (hint, it isnt infantry) >marines dictate what your job is, where as the Army you can specify your job and get it in youe contract,so long as you dont get swindled and dont mind waiting
you join the marines to be a MUHREEN DEBIL DAWG, you you join the other branches if you want some semblance of a career
Justin Martin
Figure out what you really want to do in your heart. My family ostracized me for wanting to join the infantry, mom wouldn't speak to me, Grandparents flat out said I was a fool, ect.I could have done a job that was more cozy and practical, and infantry certainty had its problems, but theres something to be said about getting up every day and enjoying what you do. Even if you dont, theres a sense that its your choice figure out what you want, maybe have a back up field you have somewhat the same desire for, get a notebook for each branch and do some research. Go on their websites and jot down different jobs that interest you, their ASVAB scores, along with any sign on bonuses, certifications and schools you find. Present that to each recruiter and see what else they can tell you. This way it shows them you arent some punk ass kid and actually did some research, and if they dont know what youre talking about then run
Andrew Russell
I hear seabees don't really wind up on ships?
Grayson Sanchez
the 75th Ranger Regiment is now taking 35L series, aka counter intel agent
If I sign up for one, what are the odds Ill get a spot at RASP? Are those saved for guys with more experience, or is the 75th and other SOF units hurting for intel guys? Im also thinking about 35M
where does the 82nd deploy to? Ans does the 173rd only go to Italy?
Wyatt Wilson
recon *ISNT an MOS
Joseph Gonzalez
theres a stigma about national guard that theyre all fat, lazy half assers that only dick around like once a month. Is that true in your guys experience? I wanted to experience the real military and I want out of my state and away from my family. I also dont want to be contractually stuck in this state for a minimum of 6 years. What if I get a nice job offer out of state, can I switch to a different state guard? My heart is saying go AD but my brain say guard or reserves are the smarter choice
Just swore into the air force lads did i just make a huge mistake?
Nicholas Reed
doesn't it take like 2 years to get into the coast guard
Camden Hernandez
no
Isaiah Foster
know your job, don't stop studying even after you get to your unit, think for yourself and apply liberal doses of common sense, avoid buying a car at 20% interest or blowing your paychecks at the strip club, don't be late and follow all customs and courtesies, and be humble.
Grayson Robinson
Just pretend you're not in the army >Learn how to pitch a pop-up tent, you're gonna need it at Sill

Do they test for steroid use? Shipping out for 11x Option 40 soon.

This post is a statement of facts.
Taking USMC questions for the next hour. Don’t let the recruiter lie to you.
Joshua Sanders
I plan on going 11B + Airborne in my contract in the Army. My question is, what amount of college could I realistically get done while I'm in? I'm 22 right now so if I go in for 4 years and then do 4 years of college, I'll be 30 by the time I get my degree. Is it feasible to get 1-2 years of college done during my enlistment? Any advice is appreciated.
Jonathan Morris
Depends on your MOS, unit, your own goals, and deployment schedule. If you aren’t doing the classic PFC thing and blowing all your time and money on dependas, you can knock it out of you bust your ass in online schools. AMU, SNHU, and Norwich University are all very military friendly and popular with the military for that reason.
Liam Gomez
MOS 0321 i think
Jaxson Mitchell
How many credits do you think I could realistically knock off? And I won't be blowing money on "dependas" or whatever the fuck, I have a girl that'll be waiting for me all 4 years, assuming she doesn't fuck some asshole while I'm gone.
Lincoln Hill
I don’t know you or your work ethic, so I can’t say. If you aren’t deploying or in the field constantly, you can probably knock a degree out in 3 years with summer programs.
Your girl will likely cheat on you, law of averages reigns supreme on that one.
Kayden Bell
You can always apply to states besides the one you're currently residing in, and transferring is much more in your control in the NG than AD
My recruiter's 100% for having his recruits grab the intitial payment for their bonus and fucking off to what they'd rather do you just need to suck enough dick to have the transfer approved, and you can always call any NCOs that you know but aren't in your chain of command to lean in on it as well
Hunter Ramirez
job I want grants me secret clearance how easy is it to lose that? I'm afraid of doing something retarded and losing it 2 years in and fucking over my civ opportunities
Jeremiah Bell
is it easy to reclass to PsyOp as a 46S?
Christopher Cook
Dude the fuck? Why didn't you just sign as 68C?
If you're going to go for 68W you better fucking volunteer for those high speed slots and whatever you can to not end up pushing gurneys.
Gabriel Wilson
>is the 75th and other SOF units hurting for intel guys? Im also thinking about 35M They always are. Group I've heard is better for MI but either or will get you the opportunities and better treatment. Personally I would go for Group but if it's one or the other I'll go op40 or op4.
If you are eligible to go for 35L do that and don't sweat not having any options. If you can't go for 35L take 35M and see if you can secure either or volunteer in AIT.
Bottom line, if you're an MI guy, there will be many opportunities for high speed shit. Most MI guys are out of shape or faggots.
Jack Wood
When I get to Air Force BMT will they go through my phones photos and videos? If so I have a lot of shit to delete.
