Having owned both a Colt sp1 and a Sporter A2, the answer without a doubt is the m16a1

Attached: 20190907_120520~3.jpg (4605x1705, 1.73M)

A2 stock and grip are both uncomfortable bullshit compared to their A1 counterparts.

I actually enjoy the A2, when using a traditional rifle stance the LOP is great for my size and the grip can be used in a way to get more control in rapid fire

A2 is bullshit unless you're going for match grade competition level accuracy. In all other fields, a modern A1 with a CHF 1:7 barrel, brass deflector, flat top, and a better grip will be superior.

A2 if you are not a manlet.

I can already foresee this thread turning into the 9mm vs 45. debate

>Comfy
>patrcicality.

Colt sp 1 chopped down to 14.5...
Your knees will thank u.
a1 makes most sense as a dmr

Attached: AR-15_Sporter_SP1_Carbine.jpg (1600x642, 142K)

>Comfy
A1 wins this hands down by virtue of its grip and LOP alone, but the lighter weight is a great bonus to that.
>Practicality
Bit of a wash here but if you're using actual military versions of the rifles for this comparison I'd say the A2 gets points for its sturdier furniture construction but the A1 wins out for its more combat-oriented sights, better trigger, and not having burst-fire.

sp1 is already featherlight as it is
5.56 needs 20 inches, 5.56 deserves to have 20 inches

a1 barrel best barrel
a1 stock is better but a2 is fine too unless youve got armor or plates then its shit
pistolgrip doesnt matter
as much as i love fixed carry handle rail is just better

plastic mattel toy crap

20 inch, The bitch needs to get free floated tho.

a2 and a4 are disgrace to human dignity, marines always wanted ar 18 (m27).

some overcharged ammo like imi does improve the terminal velocity even from shit barrels.

m16a1 pistol grips are why more comfortable than the a2 gay little nub. That's why I rock one on my AR.

Now onto the real question. I'd go with a m16a1 if it was made with modern materials and better steel, so the pencil barrel doesn't, warp from firing and full auto is fun

A1. Answers's always A1

Attached: 602-F2-437x357.jpg (437x357, 33K)

free float is nice but non freefloat is either sturdier or lighter

you failed to post an a1 though

Looks like an a1 to me chief.

lacking the defining feature of the a1 though, the forward assist

>tri prong
>no fenced in mag release
>no forward assist
>looks like an A1

Patrician choice
>A1 stock
>A1 grip
>A2 sights
>A1 handguard
>A1 barrel profile
>A2 flash hider

A1 no question.

The forward assist is on the other side, LOL

but yea, you got me on the fence. Guess it's an eairley model AR-15 before the Military designated it too the M16.

Nvm i'm fucking retarded, that IS the other side. So yea, no forward assist.

>a2 sights
Put a flat top on it. This is 2019. Time to evolve.

Not if you want a carry handle or going for a vintage build.
Flat tops are great but not the way to mount a carry handle IMHO.

I have 4 ars and one is an a2 build and I just like it as such.

High IQ: A4

>A1
>With flat top
Excuse me while I vomit.

This.

Who the fuck ruins max comfy levels by mutilating your a1 with a flat top?

Attached: 1515037211342.gif (343x413, 378K)

The future is now old man.

C7

Why would you ruin an A1 with a flat top when your can just get a modern AR? Your reasoning is the same as the bubbas that butcher surp rifles for modernity

A2 for aesthetic, it's also a better rifle.

M16>A1 for that era though, no forward assist looks sexy.

youtube.com/watch?v=fX5RoaYqQ04&t=126s

>It's a better rifle

>Has Burst

There is a reason they didn't bring back the burst feature.

M16A3 is peak perfection.

It's a better rifle in every way but the burst is indeed bad, burst and auto are very rarely ever used anyway.

Difference is you can’t butcher a surp rifle to be more effective in (current year). Whereas putting an optic on an m16 definitely makes it a viable option.
Get with the times grandpa.

Now repeat after me:

C
A
R
B
I
N
E

False. Auto is used very frequently by guys in the cool kids club. It’s a hell of a force multiplier when room clearing. People don’t like to drop after two or three hits, best to pop them a dozen times or so.

It's not.

>you need a flat top to mount an optic to an A1
Shut up, zoomer.

They've all had burst for a long time now.

The m4a1 is the first not to have burst since the original m16/a1

>The m4a1 is the first not to have burst since the original m16/a1
Only the first adopted by the US. Foreign AR users insist on not crippling their personal weapons because Marine accountants can't count high enough to pay the ammo bill on full auto.

Universebrain: M16A3

>rails! rails! rails!
I feel like milsurp fags are really the ones who appreciate the A1, while the low IQ AR fags can't take a single step without using optics and accessorizing.

What are you even doing in this thread?

Attached: 20190915_050243.jpg (1536x1957, 781K)

>what is the a4

Are you fucking dumb or what?

20 round mag fits in pockets better.

Just last week I ran into a 1980s report on M16A1 vs M16A2. The report stated that up to 600 yds A1 was better, and the soldiers can barely see targets beyond that distance. Besides, A2 is heavier and has more parts. The only advantage, the report stated, was that A2 would be able to use the same M855 as the SAW. Even at that the A1 was not useless: at 100 yds with M855 it showed a 12-in group vs 4-in group with M193.

I see no reason to go with A2 instead of A1. If you're going to use 62-gr ammo, install a 1:7 barrel in your A1.

tl;dr A1 better, A2 sucks

I have a 20 inch barrel 1/7. A2 style grip, is the A1 style really much comfier? Mine has a removable carry handle.

They're both muskets. M4A1 with an ACOG & PEQ is better.

>1:7 meme
1:9 is the best multiweight twist

I don't understand retards' obsession with overspinning the shit out of M193

Military uses 1:7. Seems to work for them

How much 55gr ammo do they really issue any more?

I have no idea, probably not a lot. I mean does it really matter? You aren't doing competition. You are shooting to kill another human being or suppress them. Both in home defense or military combat. It really makes fuck all difference

None. M855A1 is the default, although some units are still using up cold war greentip.

1:7 will stabilize 62 grain - its just not the theoretical ideal IIRC.

M16A1E1.

Attached: 8EA54574-01F1-4CCA-A8DF-3D60BA47151F.jpg (698x182, 34K)

What's the difference with Canada's M16 versions?

I'm just trying to make the point that 1:9 is a better compromise twist because 95% of the useful ammo you'll use in both the military and civilian fields is going to fall between 55 and 62gr, maybe 50 and 65 if you want to stretch it, and 1:7 is a memetwist for shooting 69gr+ weights that are really only loaded for precision and long range shooting. Everyone wanting to shoot 77gr out of their 11.5s so let's just make all the poorfag AR barrels 1:7 is fucking AIDs.

11.5 w 75/77gr ammo is patricians choice. Add a can, and you have sex.

If you are doing irons only nope. Flattop and detachable weighs more for no benefit.

i always figured the A2/A4 differentiation was the RAS and the detach carry handle

so the A5?

Well yes but the A5 isn’t a real designation (yet).

we can only hope

I fucking hope they go back to pencil or a taper barrel. God a fucking hate how unwieldy government and heavy barrel 20" are.

>t.vegan onion boy

A2 is fine just don't be manlet and don't larp with armor. A1 handguard is gay, pistol grip and length of pull are the only good thing on the a1.

A1 had the tri-prong flash hider originally.

What's windhams new "A1" considered? It has an a2 barrel and brass deflector but classic a1 sights, pretty nice desu

Attached: 415007396.jpg (500x190, 9K)

A1.5

I like this user
What is your setup
>t. I don't have an AR15 but want to get one
I love the m16 20 inch style ones though

>never used
Educate yourself, child

I hate the A2 grip.

I know I know. Thumbnail failed me. Still an awesome picture

A1 has better grip, stock, barrel, and the sights are better for combat. A2 has better sights for competition and a better handguard. Sorry, the triangle is cool but it's fragile in comparison to the toob.

Currently working on a midlength 16 inch xm177 inspired build. A1. Grip, car stock, a2 handguard, and with an a2 upper instead of a1 because I prefer the sights on the a2. Haven't got it together yet but in my opinion it will be maximum comfy.

A1. Stock is more of a 1 size fits all, A2 is too long for many people. Most people aren't good enough shots to make use of the A2 elevation drum, and would be better learning hold overs. A2 is also heavier, while the A1 is surprisingly light.

Is that still an SP1 Carbine or is it an SP2?

Here's my outdoor shot of my SP1. I have an AN/PVS-2 on the way, I can't friggen wait for it, night vision!

Attached: Colt_AR-15_SP1.jpg (4032x1208, 1.52M)

It's more like a Colt model 715 / Canadian C7 early production.

Has an A1 sight, HBAR barrel, brass deflector.
