What's Jow Forums's opinion on Warhammer 40k?
Logan Rogers
Camden Foster
An idle pursuit for man children. It’s not a proper hobby because you’re not making anything or your life appreciably better. It’s not like you’re learning a skill or enhancing a skill through practice and application. You’re killing time by moving models around a board. I’d say the only good thing about it would be the camaraderie.
Matthew Stewart
I enjoy the short stories for mindless but compelling fiction.
Luke Ramirez
i always enjoyed painting the minis but i'm super slow. haven't painted in quite a while now. dawn of war was cool too and i still play it with a friend from time to time. primaris marines are big gay and cawls a tek. space marines had already so many really cool minis.
Joseph Rogers
Kind of lame. I passively like the setting and the DoW games are pretty good, but space marines are gay and the fanbase are like weebs and furries, where they always bring it up where its not relevant and inject their autistic "girugamesh!" catch phrases into everything. Try discuss mag fed shotguns without some mouth-breather piping up about "dat looks lyk a boltah, hurr hurr" and rambling on about heresy or some shit nobody cares about.
Gabriel Cox
I like the story but don’t care about the game
Just three d print it
Mason Turner
I just read the novels and check out 1d4chan, playing it seems tedious
Carson Rodriguez
Better than a lot of other TRPG settings. Worse than a few others.
Luis Lewis
Got in early 4th as Tau (I like Mechs)
Left mid 7th (didn't like actually winning. Picked up guard in 5th)
Everyone says 8th is cool. Mecanicus being a thing is cool, but the CP system seems fucking retarded and if I got back in guard would be silly good.
Three out all my models because they were all Tau/guard kitbash insanity
Caleb Adams
Threw* why the fuck would it change that to 3? Smartphones are retarded
Easton Parker
Total time suck, I hate it as much as D&D. I tried to get into it cause it's less role play, didn't realize how much I hated painting those god damn miniatures. Same for necromunda and any other table top shit. The video games aren't horrible, I check them out whenever they're released. I personally would rather rape a box of razor blades then play anything that requires anything more than two six sided dice. More power to you if your into it.
Joseph Thomas
Dark Heresy is super fun. 1e or 2e
Anthony Powell
I'm a casual enthusiast, I just like it for how goofy and over the top it is.
Adrian Roberts
>hate painting
>start a hobby where you paint miniatures
i'm not sure what you were expecting there
Oliver Foster
I enjoy the lore and the looks of some of the factions, but the table top games aren't in my budget at the moment. Been doing 40k cosplay for a while too though.
Hudson Rivera
Not weapons related
This. I've tried getting into it and enjoy painting even though I suck at it, but desu after spending 800 dollars and spending 30+ hours on the hobby, I expect to win a little or at least not get slaughtered. I'm not going to read the Warhammer fantasy lore horseshit like it's religion. If I'm going to study something, I want it to make me money
Juan Moore
>you’re not making anything or your life appreciably better.
>building models, shooting the shit, playing, and getting drunk
How is that not making your life appreciably better?
Andrew Murphy
I can shoot the shit and get drunk with friends and enjoy their company without spending the immense time and money required to play that game to do so.
My hobbies are cars and guns. Inviting some friends over to work on a car, either maintenance or modification is fun, improves my skill, improves that mode of transportation, all the while I can shoot the shit with friends and get drunk too if I like. It improves my life.
Games like Warhammer are quite literally idle pursuits.
Luke Powell
I love sponsons so much.
>Not weapons related
Dude like half the focus of 40k is on the shit everyone uses to kill eachother.
You know.
Weapons.
That's like saying wars and military campaigns aren't weapons related, surely you don't post "Not weapons related" in every thread about "how would germany win WW1/2" or "What if the soviets attacked europe during the cold war"
Hudson Morales
>Games like Warhammer are quite literally idle pursuits.
Never argued that it wasn't.
> without spending the immense time and money required to play that game to do so.
I've spent only around $500 in the past year, military scale models included, you can play without going all in.
Grayson Martin
It's all headcanon bullshit weaponry based around rule of cool. It's a totally botching universe and a fun experience but it's a fucking modeling hobby/game NOT a weapon
Thomas Baker
You could easily cave in someone's head with a pewter landspeeder
Jacob Howard
>Reading comprehension you have not
Abscond fiend! I thoroughly enjoy painting. Thought this would be right up my alley, I was mistaken.
Logan Lopez
>headcanon bullshit weaponry
So were's that line drawn?
Theoretical weapons?
Weapons that were only part of a theoretical military study?
Weapons that were part of a serious military study?
Weapons that were built but never used?
Planes that were built but never flew?
Is this not the place to discuss pic related because it is itself not a weapon?
One could build a to scale bolter with some of its ammunition choices producable now, is this not the place to discuss how differently it would perform in real life?
Daniel Parker
Kill Team is nice and is rather the cheaper alternative i could say. I have fun playing it. I suck at painting but i can immerse myself in a universe where im not a below average human being debating a meaningless existance with no real future...yeah it sucks you in if youre into escapism
Thomas Gutierrez
why don't they just kill people from space or use drones
Matthew Thomas
Because space book says no
Henry Miller
The Eldar have the technology to bend space but they fight using swords.
Elijah Turner
>kill people from space
Much technology has been lost and in many cases the means to produce ships is no longer available or the means to produce the means to produce are no longer available.
Ships are so ridiculously valuable that using them on less important ground campaigns is considered far too risky, but yes they do often use ships to provide orbital bombardment support for ground campaigns.
>drones
Basically, AI that becomes too advanced universally goes rabid in a few seconds and tries to kill all sentient creatures it can reach, this limits how effective robots can be.
There are workarounds, see the imperium and their servitors and the tau make extensive use of drones that aren't THAT good, also again, technology has been lost bla bla bla.
Most importantly for both questions, "That would be boring"
Jaxon Moore
>why don't they just kill people from space
They do this most of the time, but they try not to when they want something to capture.
>use drones
Because they're either dumb enough that they'll need help to do it or smart enough that they can be corrupted.
Jack Evans
fuck off, Boomer. go lubricate your Bobcat or something
Easton Reyes
A little bit stupid, but a fun kind of stupid. Can be fun to assemble a fighting force and paint them but jesus is it soo expensive
Joshua Cox
Kek, I’m 27. You can fuck off you do-nothing fat fuck.
Julian Gutierrez
I enjoy it quite a bit. I like the setting, the books, and the game and miniatures itself, but I grew up building model kits for fun so it wasn’t a big leap. Not sure what Jow Forums has to do with it or why it matters what we think about it, though.
Chase Stewart
Based, seething manchildren incoming.
Xavier Murphy
Fuck off
Daniel Edwards
It's for manchildren metalheads.
Sebastian Evans
Warmachine/Hordes might be a better option in that regard. Same/similar price per model, but you need much less models to actually play a game.
Ryder Gonzalez
Lasgun or autogun?
Julian Hernandez
Nice rebuttal
Joseph Edwards
It's kinda cool, but it has an extremepy cancerous fanbase who try to insert their stuff into everything, like bronies.
Alexander Martinez
>you’re not making anything or your life appreciably better
Do you have any idea how much time and money I've spent on my lawn? And I can't even enjoy the damn thing because the summer sun here combusts cotton clothing and I've already had one labrador get carried off by mosquitos in the evening.
Let them play their harmless game. Beats blowing money on cards and whiskey.
Bentley Jackson
Oh I’m not trying to stop them. But like cards and whisky, it’s a vice, even though it’s marketed to kids,
Austin Jackson
>tfw i grew up in a place were the mosquitos were everywhere for the entirety of spring and summer and i was the only one they ignored entirely
>mfw watching everyone else get swarmed by mosquitos while standing a few feet away completely unharmed
Nolan Hughes
That's why I drink so heavily. My goal is to build my tolerance so high that after biting me, the little bastards go off like a Black Cat when they hit the bug zapper.
Benjamin King
Not really sure whats immoral about toy soldiers
Mason Martin
Blasphemous toy soldiers. Your time would be better spent reading the Good Book.
Samuel Allen
You sound like the kid in high school that "hates music" because it's "just stupid sounds."
Michael Cox
Its a great setting. Their tech doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but its aesthetics and settings are fantastic.
Parker Roberts
Vice doesn’t strictly mean immoral.
Hunter Gomez
It has connotes a degree of unwholesomeness.
Cameron Anderson
Guard are stupid powerful this edition.
