In the US military, that is. Any particular nicknames for the ammo, that grunts and groundpounders would use? I haven't found it on any lists of military slang and jargon, but I'm kind of skeptical that nothing exists for it.
Is there any particular slang for depleted uranium bullets?
no. now fuck off.
Nothing other than D.U.
Just DU
No because no one wants anything to do with it. our Mounted guys in Iraq flat out refused to carry DU and just loaded the hopper with more 25mm HEI-T.
We call them “sups” like suppositories. So shove it up your ass you glownigger.
Tom Clancy called them silver bullets in a few of his books, pretty sure he just made that shit up though.
Cute nicknames for hardware are thankfully less common than popular media might lead you to believe.
Nobody actually wants to buy uranium shells, glow nigger.
If you read the Clancy-series without realizing it was actually an expose on the ruling class being lizard people or werewolves and hence the silver bullets being required for the lizard-peons to kill their adversaries, I can't even help you. Why do you think he was murdered you glowing cuck?
It wasn't a DU specific name. It was slang for an early 120mm sabot (which did use DU).
>Died of heat attack after suffering heart disease for a decade.
>murdered
Ok.
That's what they _want_ you to think
>when you watch those guys come through the motor pool once a month in hazmat suits and a Geiger counter to check the storm drains....
But those D.U. abrams are totally safe!!
I met with guys who worked on challenger 2 tanks before. Long story short the answer is no, if you want a specific shell, you ask for that specific shell. There's no nickname, just an abbreviation, acronym or normal name.
Unless it's white phosphorous. That's called Willy Pete. I don't actually know if tanks even have WP shells, but the substance does have a nickname.
Incendiaries have personality and thus names
Just ask agent orange or Molotov
Agent orange is a defoliant.
A fucking herbicide. It's plant auxin.
I always laugh at how retards treat radiation as death magic, not realizing that DU is less active than even natural ocurring uranium while also ignoring DU as a readily flammable heavy metal poison.
If they're smokers, they undoubtedly got way more radiation in a pack of cigarettes than they'd get handling DU munitions.
I thought I always heard it as a reference to napalm. Perhaps I'm confusing it with something else
Yeah agent orange was a defoliant spread all over the place in Vietnam. It went basically like this
>Holy fuck it sucks fighting in jungles
>What do we do?
>Let's try getting rid of the jungle
Turns out agent orange is incredibly toxic and a potent, indiscriminate carcinogen
HARD BALL MAKES THEM ALL FALL
I still think he was killed
Yep, Fuck mosanto
the perfect crime
well napalm does have personality all on its own so
Uranium ore is transferred in lead bins with mandatory security teams and only guys in hazmat suits transfer it. Its a serious radiation hazard nothing to be laughed at.
DU by comparison is "less radioactive" in terms of neutron radiation, but electrons still spark off it like crazy which is still ionizing radiation that causes cell damage. All you have to do to make DU radiation dangerous is get it within about a business card thickness of a cell, its got a 100% chance of turning that cell cancerous. When DU burns or impacts something it turns into very fine dust that people inhale, or it gets in their food, water and on clothing all the cells within a short radius turn into cancer cells, which forms micro tumors. Thats why the hazmat guys check bases all the time. In that kind of close contact DU is very dangerous, both as a cancer causing agent and as a heavy metal.
t. Knower
PS No, smoking a pack of cigarettes is not equivalent.
Agent orange is also a mutagen, it causes mutations in newborn kids. Vietnamese kids are still being born with extra arms, you cannot imagine the hatred they have for America.
Wrong. You can handle uranium ore barehanded for the rest of your life with no problem at all. It is WELL within the normal radiation load just from living on this planet. I've got ceramic dinnerware sitting on my shelf within reach as I type this that uses uranium in the glaze and will trigger a Geiger counter like crazy. And DU is significantly LESS radioactive than natural ore.
The danger from DU dust is CHEMICAL toxicity, not radiation. As with lead, cadmium, mercury, etc.
it's both actually.
alpha emitters cause problems once they get inside you.
that's true, but your dead skin is more than capable of stopping it externally, alpha rays are weak sauce as far as material penetration, the guy he was replying to is hyperbolic.
No. The thinnest membrane of scar tissue will protect you from Alpha particles. You can live with peices of DU inside of you and you and your LIFETIME cancer risk is only elevated by something like 0.1%
>mutagen
Is that similiar to a teratogen?
>all the retarded shit ITT
DU radiation is a non-issue so long as you don't get any inside you. Ways to get it inside you:
Inhaling DU dust
Eating without washing you hands after handling DU
The reason you hear about kids getting fucked up is because they play in dead tanks that have been hit by DU and filled with DU dust.
it's a dioxin which can be transferred across generations. It's why you didn't really see people that fought in nam have abnormalities it's the children and grandchildren
>that's true
>No
Is it just me or is suddenly everyone an expert on radiation after that meme Chernobyl show?
Dupes. Pronounced just like it looks.
And, pray tell, where did you get your degree in nuclear toxicology from, user?
Russian style polonium
>I thought I always heard it as a reference to napalm. Perhaps I'm confusing it with something else
Imagine being this stupid
just DU it
I think weaponised WP is generally frowned upon these days.
Fuck yourself with a knife you lying chink.
kek, do you even know what a uranium mine looks like?
Well, there's an orange agent in the White House defoliating the tree of liberty, and his administration is often described as a dumpster fire, but I'm not sure that's where you heard it.
Spotted the retard. I have several smaples and a few geiger counters, it's really nothing to worry about as long as it's not inside you.
