All-Purpose Rifle

>already own an AK and SBR’d AR-15
>want to buy an all-purpose rifle to round out my long-gun collection

Any reason I shouldn’t buy a SCAR 17s? Seems like a much better choice than something like a 14.5” 5.56 AR

So... a DMR? That's not an all purpose rifle.

Just dew it

>16" midlength 6.5 Grendel
>MARS lower
>your choice of 1-8x

>All-Purpose Rifle
Anything in .308, good for defense and hunting

what foregrip is that

idk

scout rifle

The 17's a good time. It's really amazingly light. If you have the means I highly recommend picking one up.

>meme caliber

No thanks

A basic bitch 16" 5.56 AR, 16"/16.5" 7.62 AK, or maybe a PTR-91 (7.62 NATO) if you're an absolute poorfag. Everything else is either a meme or exuberantly expensive to justify.

>SBR AR15
so you paid the 200 dollar tax stamp? Bootlicker

>>all purpose rifle
24" barrel bolt action 270 Winchester. CZ, mod 70, rem 700.

Based 270 bro

This.
>Meme caliber
No thanks, dipshit.
Also this.
If you can afford it, then sure. Otherwise, don't overthink it and just get a regular AR/AK. The parts availability of these two platforms over the SCAR 17 already gives them a huge advantage over the SCAR 17.

>The parts availability of these two platforms over the SCAR 17 already gives them a huge advantage over the SCAR 17
Or the fact that niether of them kill optics or get damaged by suppressors like the scar does. Or the fact that both of those guns can be had with better furniture and triggers for 1/3 the price of a scar.

this.
too big. too heavy.
AR15, 16" chrome line not too heavy barrel, quality not too heavy 13-15" handgaurd, good light, good lpvo with illumination and preferably a ranging reticle not bdc.

also, no bipod, and probably no suppressor because forend weight

i'd suggest yes bipod, and make it an 18" you'll be able to reach out a little longer and still won't have an issue in CQC

a shitty one

6.5 sucks so fucking bad, you can get the same performance out of an expensive 5.56 load and not have to buy faggy proprietary mags.

gross

Would a 14.5 inch m4 mod 2 with socom barrel, mid length gas, and ris ii fit this criteria?

Ruger MPR probably.
What caliber is your SBR?

*block 2

Alexander Arms has been meming me into 6.5G. Talk me out of it. 77gr 5.56 and slow twists?

>not free floated
>heavy handgaurd
>it better have a magnified optic on it

No, you cannot. It is more expensive though.
slow twists are for lighter bullets and 77gr otm is dated unless you meant tmk.

I had a 16s. I sold it. the 17 would be a good gun

14.5" AR-15 with an LVPO or a SPECTERDR, light, and gripod. /thread.

>5.56
>all-purpose

Negative

>gripod
dont those suck balls?

yeah

ar15 and sbr ak here. also set out on the "all purpose rifle". eventually decided on a custom 18" 308 ar10 build. it is hard hitting enough to hunt most game with. can be built relativly light. ammo is plentyful and can use surplus to plink with. also considered 6.8SPC, 6.5G, and 6.5CM from AR platforms. Choose 308 because it seemed better on average (multipurpose) where the others seemed designed to excel more in a specific category. having said all that i think a scar 17 would be a decent "all purpose" setup.

I'm not anti-SCAR but what do you actually expect it to do that an AR-10 wouldn't accomplish

I have a scar and an ar10. My ar10 is setup for long range, 22in barrel, heavy. My scar 17 is setup for battle rifle range with a 1-8. Honestly i bought it half for the meme of it and half for the folding stock that ar's wont ever have. Its cool

i almost bought a scar a couple years back but that logic stopped me. you can build an ar10 with every gucci memetec part and a $1500 optics budget and come in around the price of a stock scar in a card board box. the more i look at it the less it lookes like a finished rifle, more like a working prototype pushed to market. if they were like $1600-$1800 probably would have been all over it.

>paying
Laws only matter if you get caught

>Or the fact that niether of them kill optics or get damaged by suppressors like the scar does. Or the fact that both of those guns can be had with better furniture and triggers for 1/3 the price of a scar.
meme bullshit
Sorry youre a poor fag user

>no suppressor
I'd forgo the bipod before the can and bring shooting sticks if needed.

>same performance
So point me to those 130gr 223 loadings again?
No?
What about g1 above .5? Also no?
Weird you can't, since they have the same performance.

>All-purpose rifle
We already have those

>No BDC
Why? All he would need to do is zero it and he's done. No need to dick with the scope beyond that. Shit, even modern day BDC's have wind holdovers.

All purpose. So protecting my home, insurgency operations against foreign power, and taking any mammal in the lower 48.
M14 all the way.

This but also
This

I bought a DD 18" 308 and threw a sig bdx meme on it, bipod, and offset mpros. I would consider mine more a DMR than all purpose, but just swapping out the accessories would throw it into the all purpose category fairly easily

I love that barrel shroud so much, I wish it was available without the m203.

>All purpose rifle
something .22lr
Definitely all purpose
1 shot: Small game hunting, defense against any child under the age of 6, distraction, hole punch
2 shots: Less small game, defense against any child under the age of 11, two distractions, 2 hole punch
3 shots: Low end medium game, defense against teenagers, "I just heard it again", 3 hole punch
4+ shots: everything else

Piston ARs are kind of making the SCAR more obsolete. They're still cheaper for the most part, but they don't have the meme factor. I genuinely prefer the ergo of the SCAR over most ARs I've handled, though, so I'll be picking one up as my mid-range battle rifle. Even if it isn't as cost efficient, I just like the SCAR a lot. It's a fun gun to shoot.

Do these destroy optics like their 308 counterpart ?

the scar doesn't destroy optics

Why get the SCAR when you could get an XCR? Less money, more caliber options and even after a complete spare parts kit in case Robinson shits the bed you've got extra shekels for optics. SCAR is a meme and the only people advocating for it in 2019 have sunk cost emotional trauma.

>it's the SCARs fault my $50 NCStar chinesium broke

If you can buy a 3k rifle why can't you afford a 3k optic

Seething scarfag. Buy LMT.

>You payed money to SBR
>You're interested in a Scar.
Fool born every minute.

My vz58 has always been my jack of all trades gun.
>enough power to be a lot of fun
>can't find a store that doesn't stock it, but personally won't buy anything but vympel made/golden tiger because it practically yaws on 545's level and is sealed against elements at the individual cartridge level
>scoped sighted to 400 yards, but I prefer weight savings to having optics most of the time
>irons adequate for the same distance, but it's pushing it a bit after 300 if target doesn't contrast the background
>extremely compact gun, especially with folder stock in my m60 barrel bag for transport
>even lighter and more compact gun with 10rd mag
>stripper clips are easy to pocket when I'm out screwing around, and pretty easy to use and top off mags with
>has been dead reliable since day 1
>extremely fast transition from folded to unfolded like I've never seen in another gun, folds out as I shoulder via gravity and clicks into place as it reaches my shoulder, especially useful in vehicles out on the farm

Only set up for one ammunition and less precise. It is preference but I really prefer ranging recticles.

I'm a purist, but it's always been tempted to get a better mag release. What one do you have? just in case I decide to do it.

NEA. If you can find them. They've been out of production for a while. The bolt catch is nice too
