1. Only Japanese nationals get join the JSDF
2. If that wasn't the case you'd need a work visa, which you will see they dont have for weeb dipshits who want to fag out in the JSDF, because they love anime.
3. Getting citizenship isn't like in the (((west))) even if you are married to a jap, it could take 5+ years to get citizenship, sometimes less if you're white, more if you're Chinese.
4. They dont let fags in who can only speak a few words. In theory this is life and death stuff. You'd need at least N2 level Japanese. Maybe N3. But that would only be if you were a national. To enter the JSDF you need to pass a written exam (lol good luck), an interview (I doubt they allow for gfs to translate), and then physical exam. None of which matters because of number 1.
In short stick to watching Naruto, and glorifying a nation when you've spent like 3 weeks there and can't understand the language or culture outside of escapist pop-culture.

Ain't gonna help. It's virtually impossible for a foreigner to become a Japanese citizen. I have a friend who was born in Japan, and one of his parents is Japanese, yet even with that he cannot get Japanese citizenship.
He should be able to get citizenship since one of his parents are Japanese. Japanese citizenship is by blood, not soil. Especially if he was born in Japan, assuming it wasn't on a military base.
If one of his parents were Japanese and born abroad the child can be a citizen if they register it in Japan within three months of birth or he lives in Japan before becoming 20 (at which point he would need to give up one citizenship since Japan doesn't allow for dual nationalities, probably the reason his parents never went through with it)

I don't know the exact details, other than that he's been trying for many years (as in, more than 10) with no luck. I know that he was not born on a military base, he was born in mainland Japan to one Japanese parent. That said, his other parent is Chinese, so perhaps that has something to do with it, like mentioned?
I can't remember if it was his mother or his father that was Japanese, but I think it must have been his mother given that his family name is Chinese.
I know he lived in Japan for a time, but as for how long I'm not exactly sure. I know he's lived in the US from high school age and onward.
Anyway, if this guy: speaks fluent Japanese, born in Japan to a Japanese parent is having a hard time getting citizenship I have a hard time imagining that it would be any easier for a foreigner who wasn't born in Japan and has no Japanese blood.
If he has been trying after 18 or 20 that's probably the issue because then he is just a foreign national trying to apply and living abroad while doing it, that's going to be tough but not impossible. If he, or rather his parents were trying when he was still a minor, he should have been given citizenship.
I knew a guy who was Brazilian but both of his parents were Japanese Brazilians, born in Brazil. He got citizenship, then had to go to language school in Japan for like a year. In Japan blood is more important than the arbitrary location your mom decided to shit you out.

It's true that Commonwealth citizens can join the British military, but that isn't something that's reciprocated.
The Canadian military in particular only allows Canadian citizens. Australia and New Zealand only allow permanent residents, or already trained officers from other countries.

From my understanding, it’s pretty easy to get Japan postings in the Navy because the operational tempo is much higher in Japan than in other AOs.

The military puts you where they need you. You can ask to get station somewhere. It depends. Speaking a few words of Japanese and being married to a Japanese national doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot. Its possible. But speaking Japanese or having a skill in demand would help more.

Finally made it home.
I went in up the flight of stairs and made it to their office, they were really surprised and my wife asked them if foreigners could join and the lady said no and we were about to leave when a guy got up and asked us to take a seat at the tables and he pulls up some booklets for the ground forces, air, navy, and the Japanese equivalent of the Natl Guard. He shakes my hand and apparently, he's super flattered and asks me a few questions like my occupation, reasons for joining, is it only to shoot guns? I tell him that I already own and shoot them regularly, and he tells me that I'd be doing humanitarian stuff which I agreed to and tells me that the absolute cutoff is 34 and that I'd have to be a citizen. I straight up tell my wife to tell him that if I was Japanese, I would have joined and he shakes my hand again and then all of a sudden, he gets a ceremonial Navy uniform which I refused to wear on the grounds that I didn't earn the right and he chuckles saying I'm "Japanese in my heart" and he insists that I try it out and I do, he says that it would look great on me lol. Tells me that if I joined, he'd help me out, recruiter blowing hot air up my ass but I thank him many times and he gives me the pamphlets and then we leave thanking him again.
I knew ofcourse that they wouldn't recruit me right then and there but I gave 3 years to leafn as much Jaoanese and get my citizenship.
