Are offset sights a meme? I was thinking about putting some (non-Chinesium) 45 degree backup irons on my next AR build because the top rail will be loaded with optic, magnifier, etc. Is this pragmatic at all or will I just look like a LARPing faggot
Offset Sights
100% meme. You will look like a faggot. 'back-up irons'? Get off Jow Forums for awhile.
If it works, who cares what you look like. Backup irons arent a bad idea if you have room for them.
t. 350 lb lard ass
>Is this pragmatic at all
You should know the answer to that yourself.
Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you needed BUIS? Then yes, it's pragmatic for you.
You haven't? Then you answered your own question.
Having backup irons is good. Having them canted at a 45° angle is dumb because that's not how the firearm was designed and it'll mess with its harmonics. There's a good reason we don't put magazines on the sides anymore.
T. Talking out my ass, it looks retarded.
Backup iron sights are already pretty LARPy/try-hard, but like said, if you have the room for them why not have them.
>inb4 poorfag screeching
That being said, if you're going to have 45 degree BUIS, make sure you only use them when you're in full kit so you can get maximum Operator LARP out of them.
i think you're better having normal buis and a QD mount for the optic
i like my gg&g offesets because they aren't super bulky and you get a very fast sight picture with them. I recognize they're almost entirely a meme but that doesn't stop them from being fun to use.
Why not just buy a scope in inbuilt irons?
Is it larp if it's terrorism in minecraft?
>drop rifle on its side
>direct impact on sights, instantly misaligned and lost zero if not flat out breaking
amazing
>Drop rifle into a large body of water
>Need a diving suit to get it back, might lose it completely
Wow, what an amazing weapon
They are really nice in competiton together with a magnified optic where you have ot make quick transitions between close and long range targets. Even Jerry Miculek uses an offset red dot.
>M&P AR
>vortex sights
>impact sport earpro
is jerry the king of 'Just As Good'?
Based and AUG-pilled
I had them on a hunting lr308. I thought they were just extra weight and removed them. Then had a great buck at 20 yards but had fogged up my scope and couldn't get a sight picture. I might try to get some lighter weight ones but i also have a different height sight block to adapt.
Jerry ain't got time for gearqueer faggotry.
>Being rough on your gun breaks it
Fucking genius’ here.
whut
He is sponsored, he gets all that shit for free.
It's a Vortex Razor red-dot on top of a Razor LVPO sitting on a Pro series cantilever mount.
Hardly a cheap setup if you ask me. Razors are made in Japan.
Did you try not breathing on your scope?
not him but sometimes shit happens. i've fogged mine before trying to intentionally avoid it on a cold day. being able to turn the rifle 45deg and get a shot isn't a horrible thing for certain applications.
>it'll mess with its harmonics
hififag detected
Firing a gun upside down causes the bullet to fly up instead of down due to rotational velocidensity. Never had any issue with 45 degrees though.
Irons mounted on top of a scope like that mess with your cheek weld and are very offset from the muzzle. Canted sights avoid that completely only needing you to tilt.
>But unfortunately my scope tasted like strawberries today so I had to give it a few licks
Literally autism, user.
Backup Irons are not a horrible idea, especially if you have shit optics, but are only useable if your optics are 1x. With scopes, your only option are either under-irons or canted.
I dont have an issue with them. If you can use them well and are decent, there should be no issue. Just zero them properly and you won't have an issue.
that being said I've never personally seen an EOTECH shit out so whaever
Would that actually matter, considering the distances at which you could employ irons?
>would that actually matter at 1000yds
Conventionally, not really. But as back ups should your main optic go down, they become your main and those issues would be a problem.
But why would you ever not want to shoot form the most stable and accurate position with a good cheek weld and tight barrel/sights offset?
youre doin too much
The idea itself is not that stupid, but why pair a red dot and irons? Batteries?
Scope paired with red dot or irons on a battle rifle makes sense.
If there was a discipline that made you shoot close and far away targets in succession, it would be fun.
Coming to the range with a setup like in your pic is weird. Why would you run out of batteries or damage your sights during range shooting? You won't, meaning you're arming for a combat situation which involves shooting people. I'm all for shit like this, trying out new stuff and fucking around but some boomers could be triggered, depends on the range.
This is the worst kind of person. Perfect consumer, though. The Jew's finest creation.
You think Jerry actually buys any of that shit with his own money? Lol.
>1000yds
Are you being retarded on purpose?
>But why.....
Maybe because the enemy is no more than 50 meters away, and fast target acquisition is imperative.
It was on the walk out and i held my gun at a low ready until the buck looked away so i could shoulder it. I had let my guard down since i was within sight my truck.
>only in full kit
if i ending going full larp and buying these im not gunna reinstall them everytime i go full kit.
He literally has sponsors all over him like he's a stock car.
user if you don't rotate your gun enough your barrel starts to sag, so tilting it brevents it from drooping too much you just have to keep switching which side of the gun they are on. This is also why I store my guns hung by the barrel which is perfectly perpendicular to the floor. Drooping doesn't sound so bad until your bullets start curving downwards.
Same reason I alternate which hand I jack off with, and sleep with my dick through a hole in my bed.
>m&p II
>just as good.
It's a literal race gun, it's not a plain ass m&p sport II you pick up for $500, ignoring the optic setup that gun is probably in the 1.5-2k range.
cope
Yes, that was my point. Companies are lined up to give him free shit so he can try it out and hopefully use it in a competition.
with the ACOG Irons I find I can barely hit a man at 50m quickly, and past that its better to just shoot both eyes open using the scope. Honestly back up irons are only good for if your optic runs out of battery or is damaged, and is just a redundancy that 99.9% of most people will never need, but I'm still going to have because it doesn't really add weight and it gives me a back up way to aim.
I have some cheap ones from AT3 on a rifle and they have held zero over the years, but they look really stupid. They do their job though.
Can confirm, nothing pretty but it holds a zero better than it's Vortex equivalent.
BUIS are commonly used in competition. You have a scope for longer range targets, then for close ones you tilt for the 45degree irons. That's faster than adjusting a LPVO.
>Are you being retarded on purpose?
If you can't shoot to at least 500 yards with good peep sights like on a Garand or ar15 you need to work on your fundamentals.
or just skip fundamentals and use a scope.
I did actually know that, just forgot about 3 gun. For a combat rifle I wouldn't recommend them but if 3 gun dudes find them useful then they probably know better, they shoot better than I do.
Even with a scope you'd be a retard not to learn fundamentals.
Got red dot sight as my primary
45deg offset irons.
My autism demand functionality above all else. Looks are subject and gay.
Good plan Zoomer. Whatever, you niggers better be generation zyklon like I keep hearing about.
Bought a $20 set of chinesium ones on Amazon when I didn't know any better. They work great though. Still have them mounted on one of my ARs as a backup to my scope.
I have a very similar set up.
They really do work well
Despite his age, Jerry is still amongst the best in the world in multiple fields of firearm competition. You probably get winded getting out of your recliner.
John Wick 4 cameo when?
>drop rifle
Do you often drop your rifles?
>1000 yards
You do understand that we’re talking about irons that are attached to a scope, yes?
I haven’t yet found myself in a situation where I need a firearm. Are guns a bad idea?
You're taking the statement too literally, spergie.
The point is to think about what you will be doing with the gun, then you can imagine if you have a use for BUIS or not.
For example, regarding a few guns that I own:
-Muh precision 6.5 creedmore. I only use this for long-distance target shooting (punching paper), and for prairie dog hunts at 500+ yards. I don't use that rifle for anything else. BUIS are useless for those two applications so I don't have BUIS on that rifle.
-Muh 300 BLK. with LVPO. I take this gun hunting a lot, specifically stalking innawoods. I haven't needed BUIS yet, but I can certainly imagine how they might be useful in case I damage my scope or get mud or someshit on it and need to take a shot before I can clean/fix it. Therefore I do have BUIS on that gun.
Same idea here: surely you have a purpose in mind for your gun. Ask yourself if you could see BUIS making sense for that application. If useful, get 'em. If not useful, don't get 'em.
Oh my God the memes are coming true
They’re not a complete meme if you’re using an LPVO. If anything else, yes they’re a total meme. And if they’re not flip ups like the ones in your pic then they are ALWAYS a meme. That’s just straight retarded my friend
>>ALWAYS a meme
>>Yeah, lemme stop in the middle of this competition to flip up my sights, I'm sure that won't hurt my time
If you have to ask if you need them, you don't need them.
>cope
No u
They use them because they can't use offset red dots. 1-x magnification was super common until they allowed offset irons.
Pretty good if you have a big scope
I used them for competition so I could compete in iron and optic with the same rifle.
Wouldn't back up irons mounted to the front of a free floating handguard be inaccurate?
It's less than ideal if you were talking about some kind of serious precision shit, but for most applications like range blasting, 2/3-gun competition, hunting at typical distances, or defense then it's perfectly adequate.
I zeroed mine about 2 years ago and they still hit fine at 100 yards. You should confirm zero every now and then anyways, even on really nice expensive rifles.
Idiot, if you drop it hard enough to lose zero your main optic got fucked too, right?
i feel like jerry would make wick look like a shit shot in the space of about 5 seconds
Armor piercing slugs? Nah rapid fire 50bmg
I like them for anything with an love cause it's pretty much the only option. What I'd really like to see I just some super small/lol profile m-lok flip ups that arent like $1000. I think kac is the only one who used to make something like that. Either that or more integrated pistol sights on the scope like an Aug, or some little m-lok pistol sights, just something to have worst case scenario for 50 yards an in use.
Backup irons is a good idea. Just get the Magpul flip-ups. They're really low-profile when not in use.
>they were just extra weight and removed them
This is what happens when we drink onions.
I was thinking the same thing, this guy can't deal with another couple ounces on his rifle? Lame. It'd be one thing if they were digging into his side while it was slung but the weight is just retarded.
Not an expert by any means, but shouldn't she have the Glock Feldmesser in stead of this Bowie looking knife?
>Cranking a rifle 45 degrees off from true zero and ideal ergonomics is functional
Yup it's autism alright.
>leave flip up sights up
>???
>profit
The short bus is that direction ——>
Old timer that has seen and done it all shows up and makes Wick look like a chump would be kind of cool.
>>leave flip up sights up
Wtf do you need flip up sights for if you are going to have them up anyways?
>Firing a gun upside down causes the bullet to fly up instead of down due to rotational velocidensity.
True, but if you go to the southern hemisphere the effect is reversed. That is why guns made to be used in the southern hemisphere have rifling that spins in the opposite direction.
I've got an aimpoint T-1 at 45, with a cheap 3-9x scope on top
figure the dot's quicker close in, and the magnified optic's there for when it's more suited
Only really necessary if you have a powered optic.
And it would be arguably better if you had a red dot mounted on that optic instead like and rmr acog combo.
But if you only have a red dot as your primary optic dont even bother.
Text got lost, MBUS mounted on 45 ° MLOK mounts
>rate my autism
Why the fuck does no one make irons offset the other direction for lefties?
guys how can I fine tune the harmonics of my gun
Underrated
Serious answer is you hand load ammo and find the perfect load which has a velocity which pairs with the harmonics of your particular barrel. This is why very nice bolt action rifles can each shoot different types of very high quality ammo with different results. It isn't that one ammo or rifle is better or worse. It is finding the ones that work best together.
>Are offset sights a meme?
They are if they are irons. Offset has enough space for a reflex and you won't need two mounts for that. The only reason to have them is to use your DMR role rifle in a CQB situation as that itself only puts the rifle beyond what it is setup for.
>you can't have backups for things
>if you prepare for anything bad you're trying too hard!
>harmonics
It looks larpy but I can see offset sights being of use if it's with a scope. If they're used like your pic though why not just cowitness them.
Do you have a gas mask, OP?
This is the real answer to your question - if not, get co-witnessing BUIS.
