I do security for private dancers, usually peaceful, and when it isn't it's usually some drunk idiot I can hold off until he calms or the cops get there down which is of course my job as a rent a cop, but I was sucker punched when I tried to separate two clients who were fighting after a bachelorette party, and one of them especially snapped and went to town on me. There was no permanent damage but I got way too much blood punched out of me and I'd rather that not happen again, especially if a client is in danger.
So I'm looking into eye surgery to get rid if glasses and doing martial arts. I'm leaning towards boxing. I know it's a sport fighting style but my big problem is not being very agressive, and I think that full contact will help with that.
In the meantime, what are some less lethal weapons that are effective against people going bezerk? I've looked into it a little and heard that stunguns can just make things worse when someone is already nuts.
>Heard that stunguns can just make things worse Yeah maybe if they're on PCP. Anyone else is going to drop like a fucking rock once they get a 50,000 volt tickle.
So this was a woman who attacked you, and you refrained because of that which meant just taking the damage, right? Why would you need to learn boxing then? Why not a style that better facilities restraining them?
Nathan Richardson
No, usually girls but this time it was a couple of brothers. I separated vthem gently but the older one, who was getting punched was all "don't touch my brother" and snapped. There are akido classes around and I've heard good things but it doesn't look like much actual contact fighting which is where I'm weak. (Am I wrong?) I can usually talk people down like a pro, choke slammed a dude once, not that strong irl but sends a message even a drunk idiot can understand. 99% of my potential opponents are cowards by definition and that's easy, it's the exceptions I'm worried about.
I was reluctant, but I also have trouble with agression in general, used to be an extreme doormat with an abusive mom and coward dad, so while I can tank a hit just fine, I need work hitting back when necessary.
Colton Torres
Pretty much. Lots of hip hip and twerking these days tho.
Lincoln Scott
Take judo, for your job learning to toss people would probably be more useful than punching someone
Landon Fisher
Dad's been doing aikido for 15 years. Yeah he can snap a dudes joints from wrist to shoulder in a second but it requires some room. And it takes years. Take some grappling martial arts training. Judo, BJJ, wrestling. Judo is best since you just throw people around without going down yoruself.
Brayden Gutierrez
Cop here, strongly recommend judo/boxing and Sabre Red.
Unless you're buying a Taser brand Taser you're not going to get muscular lockup from a stun guns and it isn't going to drop anybody.
If anyone wants to fight call the police, hose them down with the can of Sabre Red, and get your dancing sluts out of there. When the police show up just articulate over and over how fearful you were for your safety and the safety of the women.
Daniel Scott
>Cop here, Sir can I axe you a question just please stand still for a moment
Jaxon Gutierrez
tl/dr fag why wouldnt you kill somebody if you could??
Landon Sanchez
Judo is just shitty wrestling in a gi. 7 out of 8 ufc champs wrestled and the other is a jiu jitsu guy. Learn wrestling, Brazilian jiu jitsu, and Muay Thai. Boxers and judo players get fucked up in mma.
Owen Roberts
>to drop like a fucking rock once they get a 50,000 volt tickle
Wrong. First off, there is a HUGE difference between any random "stun gun" and a TASER N.M.I. with a good spread (probe placement). What you're looking for is neuro muscular incapacitation. An electrical waveform that disrupts and blocks voluntary muscle control. A "stun gun" WILL produce an involuntary reaction, likely a fast jumping movement back or away.
I have beed tased four times, ama. And yes, they work.
What you want is the Strikelight a simple stungun/strike weapon (affordable) or a TASER X26P, X2 or the new T7 (in order to best). Protip: M26, if you can find one.
Angel Lopez
>in mma This ain't mma lad there are no gis. And no time to do your cute ip man hand movement routines.
Jaxon Howard
This isn't the movies you fucking faggot. Stun guns are completely pointless and don't do shit to people except for a small tingling sensation on the skin.
Joshua Campbell
>Unless you're buying a Taser brand Taser Their patent expired yesterday. I'm interested to see what's going to hit the market now.
Jack Edwards
akido is one of those 'better on paper' martial arts that only work when the stars align.
Nathaniel Butler
Pepper spray, maaaybe a baton if you learn how to use it properly.
What the fuck are you talking about IP man hand routine. Muay Thai and wrestling, those teach you how to slam someone on there head or smash them with elbows
Oliver Scott
Wrestling is good for developing your balance and takedowns but all the habits you pick up competing and training like falling to your stomach get you smoked in a street fight
Kayden Perry
>all good things... I would still invest in stock.
Adrian Reed
>Boxers and judo players get fucked up in mma. it's useful as a skillset. look at mcgregor.
Sebastian Miller
Do you not have backup? The times I've been to a strip joint there is security working in teams, and they were fucking huge, not a chance I'd pick a fight with those dudes. I don't know about a stun gun, the noise freaks people out but if they are drunk enough to ignore that they may be drunk enough to fight through a shock. They are scary sounding but generally not that powerful, though I still would rather not get one applied to me.
Dylan Ramirez
Why did you get a security job if you didn't already know martial arts?
Nolan Gutierrez
>martial arts are 90% window dressing in the real world. A lot of bouncers and private security guys I knew did MA but usually as a hobby with one exception#.
self-defense style jujitsu can teach you some nifty stand up tricks but boxing and wrasslin' don't apply to getting your job done, which as OP noted, is mostly about shuffling drunks around and *NOT* starting fights aka deescalating. Cuz trust me when I say this, you are guarding a dancer and shit pops off, the cops will have ZERO sympathy for your ass and the dancer will think you're a dangerous fool. OPs attitude is already in the right place.
likewise with bouncing, start an actual fight in the club vs hauling out the trash and you will get the boot pronto, you are a liability who does't know what they are doing.
OP I would suggest jujitsu and judo as well as maybe see if there's a realistic self-defense club that can teach you standing restraints and defensive tactics. Hwwever, that said, the best teacher is experience. replay what happened to you and come up with a plan for next time
># old dude working the door at a flash club with a lot of fast money moving through- he was '4" and 130lb. He NEEDED skills. always wore a cowboy hat.
Thomas Gomez
Boxing is excellent for self-defense. Learning how to strike with fists will put you head and shoulders above average street guy. You should also learn enough jiu jitsu to slip away when someone tries to grab onto you, but only once you’ve got your boxing fundamentals down.
Christian Sanders
TO reiterate, self-defense is not the point of a security job. Getting in a punchup is a sign that you fucked up and are continuing to do so
Ayden Wood
What a shitty job. You’re a whore guardian.
Henry Young
I know it was a typo but I cannot stop laughing at the idea of a 4" man leprechaun size man in a cowboy hat checking my ID at a strip joint.
Hunter Watson
>after a bachelorette party, and one of them especially snapped and went to town on me. There was no permanent damage but I got way too much blood punched out of me >bachelorette party >bachelorette >bachelor >ette So you're saying you got the shit beaten out of you by a girl?
Tyler Miller
Maybe a hammer? So long as you avoid the face, getting hit in the chest with a hammer is bound to drop you.
Eli Long
What state and why do you do shitty unarmed security when carrying pays more by default. I did unarmed for a year and it was the worst most unprofessional shit ever. Now Im an armed 235 agent and love it. Just go armed user, shit even to carry less lethal in PA, you need to be 235 certed.
Jack Miller
Fucking Whaaaaaaaaat?????
Ethan Turner
working for dancers and escorts a different kinda gig and it's usually cash on the barrel and a lot better pay. And you don't carry a piece to flash it around, the most important thing in your pocket is your cell phone
Eli Mitchell
See Read nigga! READ!
Isaac Adams
Dry stunning with one of those things literally does nothing. Where the fuck do you morons even come from? Is this board actively being linked to some tactical forum or Reddįt?
OP do yourself a favor, and buy a gun. There’s not a gimmick in the world that’s going to just be capable of stopping a group of pissed off violent drunks coming towards you.
Nathaniel Rodriguez
can confirm people will be able to take multiple dry stuns. haven't had the chance to personally tase anyone nor do I want to be in that situation but my x2 on my hip def helps me feel more secure when I do my rounds in the crackhead alleys of sf
Alexander Walker
From that point of view, I get it but it still seems not worth it. If it works for you then keep going. Do dancers or escorts ever repay you the favor user, if so then I can see it being worth it.
Wyatt Scott
>using pain compliance tools on heavily drunken men This is how cops get stabbed. Fortunately you can push drunks over and they forget where the floor is. Learn to grapple and at least learn the standing arm bar.
