A check came too, calm down cleetus

Wondering if anyone has any info about where this came from

Do you live in Washington?

Based Yeah Poster

the retail for like $40 on amazon, you can get some really nice shit from China and India these days. God bless global trade and the international finance system.

Oklahoma

heh.
I thought indentured servitude was outlawed already

Seems a bit heavy/solid to be mass produced, but ya never know

It's not mass-produced per se, it's made in a workshop by men usually in batches of several hundred per pattern. costs of labor is so low they can sell them for short money

loads of shit like this, it's great.

anyway it's a nice gift, your boss isn't cheaping you out

>all 6 reviews

I have two, they are quality pieces.
anyway did you think I was making it up about not being mass produced but instead made in small batches?

Yeah it's definitely solid and pretty, not sure if I'd use it for work though

I'm more into function than form, how does Damascus hold up to normal wear compared to a decent knife?

Not OP but it depends on the tye of stel used na dthe heat treat. Knives like this re a crapshot on those terms, although I will ay that the two I have are both a)real pattern welded steel, not etched or lasered and b) decently hard and hold an edge.

When you sharpen them you're always at risk to fuck up the exposed pattern and of course the edge doesn't show it anyway, but I find them excellent pocket knives for EDC

Not if you live with constant high humidity.

Alrighty thanks, also how tell real pattern vs fake?

Real pattern is irregular depth. Fake is pretty much printed on. If you can't tell, look at the edges, should be closer pattern like wood grain. If you still can't tell, get an IQ test.

yup, you can feel it, also it will show on the spine whereas fake will not

Pic related, I have to keep it covered in oil soaked paper because South Texas weather.

This one shows texture a little better.

Yeah the edges definitely look real you can see the pattern match as it wraps the spine and gets tight

It's pretty obvious once you've seen one. I really just wanted an excuse to re-oil my knives.

Lol you're welcome

If its an artisan knife maker, there will be a stamp on the blade or etching which usually has some kind of info you can follow up further- though as a knife maker myself, I give customers a detailed tag with all the metals used, tested hardness, date made and any other materials used in the construction.
More than likely its a hand made, mass produced knife and all said and done, the fittings are put together ok. Just a light covering of mineral oil once a month or so, probably a polish on the wood every couple of years and it'll see you fine.

Also none of that doesn't necessarily make it less worthy as a tool or should take away an inherent memories of how you got it. I still have an old mora knife from a relative when I was a little 7 year old that was knee high to a grasshopper. Its not great, but that's not the point of such things

Nice. Don't let anyone ree at you about how shit it is. Bonuses are nice.

Buy an AK

As a certified knife knut my beef with these knices are in two areas. 1) They are good material and usually good presentation, fit and finish and so on, but they are unsophisticated and clunky for the most part. If I can see the fucking screws holding those beautiful scale and bolsters together anditls as thick as a Havana cigar it's not a gentlemans folder even with VG10 core pattern welded blade and a good polish 2) QC is nonexistent. Edge could be butter soft, it could be like glass. Loose fittings, you name it

Otoh I xan scratch mynknife itch for well under $100 for semi-custom stuff that would go for $3-600 stateside. Dunno how that makes you feel as a knife maker but there it is

He got it at a gunshow, one of my coworkers got the same kind of knife.

OP here it's from "Damascus knives shop"

Yeah it is a lil clunky (extra heavy) and qc could be better but I'll use as edc and maintain until it's too worn or fails

Thanks for the input

What a cunt your boss is. If I were you I'd send it back or even stab him with it instead.

Meh knife, but stellar boss. Any boss handing out blades to his crew these days is the good kind of boss. Could have been a ticket to the Vagina Monologues or a make-your-own-onions set.
