Hey Jow Forums I am building an AR-15 and I was wondering what calibers i can use with a standard 5.56 lower. I know you can put all sorts of uppers on them but I have no clue about what calibers I can use that will work with a standard 5.56 lower. Im new to the whole gun building scene and would just like some info.

Pretty much every AR-15 conversion caliber will work on the standard lower.
Upper is a different story.
So long as the lower is rated for 556 or 223 then you're good to go, though be mindful that you'll need a barrel that's designed for 556 ammo and not just 223 rounds
will i need some kind of kit or can i just buy a complete upper in the caliber that i want.
Just ones I'm sure of.
9mm
5.56
7mm whisper
6.5x45
.300 blackout
.458 socom
>9mm
NOPE
You're awfully confident for being wrong
A 5.56/.223 lower will NOT work with a 9mm upper the mags will fall out of the well without an adapter, and you need an ejector as well. The "drop-in" conversion sets are garbage and don't work.
You fucking ignorant idiot.
Using an adapter still counts as using the standard lower. Plenty of people build ar9's without dedicated lowers. But regardless things like the endomag exist as well, brainlet.

Do you notice anything fucking different about this lower, fucktard? Anything at all, you fucking moron?
>an adapter
One "adapter"? One? lmfao, kid, you know shit.
cool, i was looking at either .300 blckout or .458 socom, whats more easy/cheaper to get. i dont own anything in either of those calibers so i dont know the ammo pricing/ brands to buy
Now, now, don't gang up on the underage noguns, you might discourage him and make him an incel when his balls finally drop.
also i have another stupid question, how hard is it to assemble a lower. ive only fucked with shotguns up until now so i have no clue about building an ar lower. i wanna do the whole process from scratch, (ill even be making the lower from 80%) so that WHEN the government bans them, ill still be able to do my own thing and not have to rely on bullshit laws
>i was looking at either .300 blckout or .458 socom, whats more easy/cheaper to get.
.300 blackout, and you can use reg AR mags, so that will be way less expensive. .458 socom is much harder to find and more expensive, although it can be loaded into reg ar mags as well.
>also i have another stupid question, how hard is it to assemble a lower.
You'll need a punch set and a rawhide mallet for the roll pins, but other than that a quality lower and parts kit snap together. Just be careful to get all the springs correctly sorted. An 80% is more work and trickier, but if you're patient and have a drill press and have worked a router before, you should be OK if you don't start cutting into the jig, and go deeper than you should.
can you recommend me a punch set and lower parts kit?
lmfao nigger just get a dollar store hammer and a leatherman
Not op but would a .50 beowolf upper work on a 5.56 lower?
>What is the Colt SMG
I used a screw vise for the bolt catch roll pin. THe geometry on that thing is a nigger.
i wanna do this right the first time around lmao. my dollar store doesnt have hammers
Literally only requires a barrel change. That's the entire point of that cartridge.
The only time you'd need something other than just an upper would be if you intended to use something that didn't take STANAG magazines. And in those cases, all you'd need would be some sort of adapter for the magazine well.
>I used a screw vise for the bolt catch roll pin.
Marked up your lower a bit, I wager.
I used it to avoid that.
Go watch the Midway USA or IV8888 videos on youtube of building uppers and lowers.
>can you recommend me a punch set and lower parts kit?
Look up "roll pin punch" at Midway dot com, I got one there for about $10, if I recall. Also, buy an Anderson "Oops" kit-- they're just a couple bucks, but include extra springs, roll pins and detents. There's nothing more frustrating than digging through your carpet at 2AM looking for the pivot pin spring and detent you just launched.
Buy it and report back, fool. They're hot dogshit, but I don't care if you cry like a little bitch.
I still don't see any of your points. You can run 9mm in a standard lower. That was OP's question. No shit you can't just throw a glock mag into a standard magwell on its own.
is still a dumb nigger
never thought asking a simple question would cause this much of a ruckus
