For $199, is this the best budget set of NODs? How do they compare to the real deal? Anyone have the ones from MW2? Figured I’d get these while I save up for a PVS-14 set up.

Also, do you think these are helmet mountable?

I’m not expecting a realistic pair of Gen 4 quad tubes. But for $199, this is cheaper than most shitty Gen 1/2 tubes that you will find.

IIRC the MW2 ones were literally a pair of IR viewers + lamp, I don't expect these to be much different.

Will they let you see in low/no light? Sure, for a short distance. But anyone else wearing NODs will essentially see you as though you had a super hi-lumin flashlight taped to your forehead, not exactly subtle for operating operationally.

What about with a decent IR illuminator? Same thing as a big flashlight on your head right?

that's what I meant by IR lamp. the more powerful a lamp you use, the more you will stand out to other people with IR viewers. That being said, they'll be A-OK for larping or 'yote hunting and shit like that. I'm sure they are a perfectly function for what they are, just remember that you get what you pay for.

If you actually want a set of decent NODs, this ain't it. For a "cheap" toy to fuck around with at night, they're ideal really, because if you break 'em you're only out 200$ instead of thousands.

Wait, do these actually have multiple cameras and screens? I have the shitty cheapo version from like eight years ago because I had a gift card to burn and it's as primitive as you'd expect but I'd toyed with ripping the guts out and strapping them to my WASR with a bigger illuminator.

These are gonna be in between gen 1 and gen 2 tier with horrid durability. Just buy a flashlight.

they'll probably be absolute dogshit digital IR, I'm also guessing only the left eye lens is actually functional with two on either side being eye candy and the right eye lens housing the IR illuminators. For $200 you can find PNV-57Es which are actual tubed binocular NODs, obviously not ideal but they're legit passive night vision and not a cheap toy.

Any IR lamp at all will be like a fucking flashlight to anybody with IR viewing capability, because it literally is a flashlight. It is just a flashlight not visible to the naked eye.
Digital IR has a ton of latency. Even if you can see with it aiming and shooting will be very difficult. The latency makes aiming hard as fuck because as any shooter knows you need to make tiny adjustments to get your aim right. But with latency you are making adjustments to how your sights were 0.2 seconds ago. So you are all over the place. You have to move super slow.
TLDR: they are just toys

get a monocular and get a IR sight for your rifle. that way when you need to shoot, you have a free eye to view down the scope
