they're middle of the road ARs at a slightly above bottom-of-the-barrel price. i have a bushmaster myself but my buddy has a PSA and it doesn't seem like the bushie does anything that his can't. really i think all ARs are p. much the same until you start getting into the gucci stuff, so why pay more if you're not getting anything out of it?

Does anyone know any accurate-ish numbers for how many AR15s are currently on the market? People don't believe me when I say it's legitimately the most popular rifle in the US, so I'm curious if there are any stats or estimates

They're inexpensive without being cheap. They're not the highest quality on the market but you can trust your life and your property to them. Also, while I can't force you, I do recommend getting an AR for no other reason than just in case. You can't go wrong with a PSA, and 5.56 / .223 is reasonably an expensive, fun to shoot, and a good medium sized varmint round. Hell, it'll take down deer with good shot placement (or non-fmj).

Only PSA thing i own is a PSA upper on my 6.5 grendel. I have to say i like it a lot. With Hornady Black 123gr, it shoots on average for me around .75" to 1" groups. But i have seen it shoot half inch groups before. For 320 bones for the upper, im impressed and it straight dabs on a bunch of gucci ARs in 556. Im looking forward to getting a new barrel on mine.
If you want a good starting point for a rifle to see if you like; be it shooting an oddball caliber, different barrel lengths. Wait for sale, if they have what your looking for, pick one up. Upgrade parts later and have fun.

Do they possess the same value to price ratio? No way.
If all you need is a good AR at a good price point, it doesn't get much better. As a starter rifle its indispensable. If you want something better and can get it, why not? Nothing wrong with gucci if you can swing it. That said, sometimes you just need a six pack of fruit of the loom, and there's nothing wrong with that either.
Plus the old adage remains true: a tool is only as good as the person weilding it. You're better off with a bargain bin AR you can use effectively than a ten thousand dollar one you can't.

No one knows and that's a good thing. Though you could probably get a ballpark figure if you knew the stock of all the major online gun stores and were able to say how many brick and mortar stores there are.
One "problem" with guns in the US, from a control perspective, is you don't know how many there even are so you can't know when you've got them or if you're even close to removing them.
