Its only powerfull because its a nitrated alcohol (like PETN) and its a liquid filling the space between the ammonium nitrate crystals.
You can get normal AN/Al very powerfull when its hammerpressed. Having a 2x density brings more than 2x pressure and possible +20-40% detV. At best its at 130kBar

No, it needs a shock wave from a explosion. You +p would explode without a chemical made shockwave, its a bursting of a metal case. Otherwise you would get a pressure of +50000bar inside the chamber while firering normal guns because powder detonates without leaving the case and not burning all the way inside the barrel
