I understand the sentiment, but I simply disagree for situations that fall under the umbrella of limited supply. Shotguns just lack for true defensive capability past maybe 50 meters. Not to mention they're heavy, cumbersome, and difficult to carry ammo for. Your EOTWASWKWOROLOMFGBBQ scenarios require and all in one. I'm comfortable defending and hunting with an AR-15. I can't say the same about a shotgun.

308 makes a lot of sense for end of the world if you plan to GTFO and live in the woods. If you need to harvest big game (think elk sized) and defend against bears, its a commonly available caliber able to fill that role much better than 556. Glock is GTG though.
