Why do nations buy APS when it's useless in real wars? Electronic warfare can sense your APS from over the horizon and shower it with dumb artillery.

How well are you going to detect a thermal imager?

What's the source for those pics?

Because there won't be any more real wars.

In the atomic age, the military is for suppressing a country's own people or picking on third-world shitholes, not directly engaging the forces of another world power.

Not at all, because it's a passive sensor.

Rheinmetall's APS advertisement. These ranges are ackshully considered good by APS mindlets

They need to pretend that citizens are not just hostage to other nations on a whim.

Detection =/= tracking, nigger.

For HF radars chasing aircraft, yeah.

Passive DF of emitters on a surface is good enough to carpet the general vicinity.

What about wars between non nuclear powers?

Putin won't live forever and Russia is in decline. There is that slim chance that one of the more batshit insane forces in Russian politics gets into power and decides to go for that last big play - not WW3 but a limited war followed by tactical nukes, then deescalation once Russia has got concessions from the West.

No you cant, APS antenna is usually low power AESA, you arent detecting that from 100m much less over the horizon.

>Russia is in decline
lol

Not going to happen as Russians are sensible enough for MAD to work. The real worry for a doomsday senario is a Islamic fundimentalist nuclear power that honestly believe dying in a nuclear inferno will send all their people to heaven.

>Also in 2009, Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Russian National Security Council, indicated that in the proposed new version of the nuclear doctrine, released in February 2010: “We have corrected the conditions for use of nuclear weapons to resist aggression with conventional forces not only in large-scale wars, but also in regional or even a local one.” (Emphasis in the original.) A month later he said that Russian nuclear doctrine did “not rule out a nuclear strike targeting a potential aggressor, including a preemptive strike, in situations critical to national security.”2

How is that any different from US nuke policy? We know the US keeps tactical nukes so it's safe to assume they are for limited nuclear exchange.

But the US wouldn't invade the Baltic states and then nuke Stockholm to deescalate. Russia has explicitly lowered the bar for nuclear escalation in the last 20 years.

When your jew masters decide that Russia is weak enough to make a grab at, they will send their useful idiots into the breach in the name of the New World Order and you dumb slaves will still think you were the good guys.

>t. russian arena drawing nearly a kilowatt

hehe

When it's in the air defense mode maybe.

>nuke Stockholm to deescalate
This is almost what scares me the most, as a swede. Russian military doctrine would probably nuke us in any regional or possibly even local conflict. Best case scenario Stockholm gets Iskander'd and the shelters for the highest echelons of military get Topol'd.

That's a pretty dumb bluff.

russians aren't really known for their intelligence. Pun intended.

>but user, muh APS can stop sabots

bruh

It can't even stop a (US-restricted) TOW

AESA radar also conducts EW, pic related.

Rheinmetall marketing material spinning their lack of miniaturized radars.

That is referring to Russian soft kill APS, specifically Shtora.

If it was IR specific, it wouldn't require a onboarded module.

Do you know how Shtora works and how it is countered?

Lol that is literally for shtora

considering how shitty shtora worked in syria against tow 2s, i don't think so lmao

All that image shows is Rheinmetall made an effort to reduce signature of their radar fence while previous manufacturers couldn't be bothered. Probably the transmitter and receiver on the Rheinmetall system are locally coupled allowing for increased discrimination.

It only didnt work against TOW2B.

Or it means Rheinmetall's marketing is intentionally misleading.

Is Trophy the only western APS currently in use right now?

Well that settles it.
I'm going to give more to Israel so we can keep the only Democracy in the middle east safe!
Who's with me?!

no

>Russia is in decline
It is, but West is disintegrating even faster.
