It's cheap and incredibly collectible; tons of nations either used it (with unit markings) or produced variants of it themselves.

There are much better rigs today (especially on the waist strap; tying a knot and untying it makes it relatively slow to get on and off compared to a Fastex buckle), but for a poorfag operator or just larping, it's almost unbeatable considering it's like $15 to $20 shipped from eBay or Amazon.

the Type 63 chest rig is unironically better. you can put in those plastic mag holder inserts and use it with the pouches open. it works basically the same as your average hi speed low drag chest rig, and you have 5 pouches total to use for mags, a radio, and medical shit.

I wear a type 56 rig with my Ferro Concepts Slickster. It's pretty cool. 5 mags, radio, and IFAK.

You can get buckles for under a dollar in most hardware stores.

My SKS chest rig works great. Left pouch is cleaning supplies and a plastic garbage bag cut into a 2' square. Next are lips up to the last 2 pouches. The nxt is a mini roll of duct tape and a sight tool(not too important, its already zeroed). Last one is kept empty to retain used clips (poorfag).

do aug magazines fit?

yes if 7.62x39mm ak mags work, any 5.56 magazine will work

sorry i don't have an ak so i can't really compare, but the aug magazines are beefier than ar-15 ones

i can fit two ar mags in mine so the aug shouldn't be a issue
