I enlisted in the US military, and I did some reenacting for a Afrika Korps unit a few years ago cause I'm obsessed with the north african campaign. It was fun, but I didn't like that my unit couldn't speak German. If you're gonna demand all of these historically accurate uniforms and guns, can you not be bothered to learn a couple of phrases that a German soldier might have said in combat like "auf der linke" or something? 5/10 I'd do it again if they wanted to fly to Tunisia and reenact there.

Shit like this is why most reenactors who are actually serious about what they do usually just end up being models for militaria collecting guides, or publish their own works on the matter, basically amateur historians. They're usually the ones that get hired to do professional reenactments for documentaries and the like. But these people make up the top 1% of the reenacting community, most of it is a bunch of extremely overweight neckbeards who can't even be half-assed to get into shape or keep their uniforms in regs, let alone learn the language of the country that they're reenacting.

I did civil war in high school. Had a based history teacher that was into it. Him and his buddies had a shitload of spare muskets, uniforms, and other equipment so that was the field trip for the class. Go camp out with the old boomers and shoot black powder at yankies. Lots of fun. He would also fire off a cannon every year on the school field.

There is a concerted attack against the historical field in general over the last decade or so. This isn't limited to just military history or any of the topics the "right" tends to be interested in. It even extends to more "leftist", conventional topics like experiences of women, minorities, and other oppressed groups in certain periods. Look at the constant stream of post-modernist shit and blatant revisionism being pushed out and how it has seriously ramped up over the last few years. Look at how the normies react when you even mention the word history: thanks to that absurd conditioning they now associate the topic with "literal naht-zees" and clowns writing theses about how ancient scandanavia was akshully wakanda. Meanwhile, tech companies have been pushing the narrative that the past doesn't matter and that you should trust them, or else, to make dystopian systems to control your life that history provides many arguments again.
Enjoy your historical hobbies while you still can. One day simply remembering what happened more than 3 weeks ago will be enough to get you red flagged and put into camps.
