My teammate from hockey changed a few letters in my last name and I've basically used that ever since. Sometimes I'll just shorten my last name down to the first four letters if that id hasn't been taken yet.

I liked a word, I was playing on a pokemon mmo. It was taken, so I added pokemon backwards. Played a different mmo. That combo was taken so I made a second username semi-ironically.
The pokemon one was taken again when I joined xbox live. So i used the other one. And then it just became permanent.

My standard username these days is of a mistranslation of my waifu's name. That or her alternative name. And the other name I use is a variation on the nickname of a girl I used to like.

I used to have a japanese username that referenced Mushishi but as I grew up (and as the muslim migrant crisis started to threat Europe as we know it) I realized that we are not appreciating our culture, so I started searching for a name that in some way symbolized European culture as a whole and in some way represented myself. And I found it! Now I'm in love with it.

Latin words that have depressing meanings. They usually mean things like no skill, life wasted, lonely man, total solitude, those kinds of things.

I just use a random username generator for everything that way it is harder for people to dox me. People have tried, nobody has succeeded yet.

I usually use Schuylkill, the name of the county that I'm from. It's almost never taken and it's pretty neat to meet people from my area in my games.

If you're really stumped just use a name generator, that's how Childish Gambino got his stage name. After creating a good number of alts I just let new handles flow to me.

I was obsessed with Resident Evil as a kid and used the name of one of the monsters.

iirc it was a name that came out of a random generator that I tweaked a little. I've never seen anyone with it, even when googling, so I'd say it has served me well.
