Have to do a 10 minute presentation for my Intro to Comm class tomorrow

>have to do a 10 minute presentation for my Intro to Comm class tomorrow
>presentation can be on literally anything like a hobby or a sport, its mostly about testing our public speaking skills or whatever
>ask my professor if I can do this presentation on Magic; The Gathering because I am an autistic nerd with no real hobbies
>he says its fine and even encourages me to choose this topic because he thinks its unique
>I show him my presentation and he says its great, all I have to do is show it in class tomorrow

What the fuck, why did he let me choose this topic? I am about to look like a complete retard in front of 40 people if I dont have a panic attack before then. Does anyone have any tips for presenting or for my anxiety in general, or should I just not even show up tomorrow and take the F?

if you're good looking, you'll be that cute nerdy guy
if you're bad looking, you'll be that fat oily haired slug

I know so many normies who think Magic and D&D are cool because "Le nerdy" meme. Honestly just be enthusiastic about the thing you enjoy doing, who gives a fuck really? They won't, most likely they'll forget and move on with their day. Go for it OP.

This. Nerd shit has gotten so commercialized and trendy that nobody gives a shit. Just don't try explaining anything esoteric.

Normies are culturally appripriating adult tabletop gaming
You might get some manic pixie dream girl pussy

Well if its tomorrow you already kinda fucked up. Start doing practice runs. I assume you get a powerpoint or some visual display. Translate these points over to notecards if you have a podium to speak at. The notecards should just be reminders and not read. Remember to try to look out at the audience and not just at your powerpoint or notecards the entire time. The more you practice the better you will do even under pressure. Practice it again and again and time yourself. Try to hit 12 minutes since you will probably be nervous and will talk fast. Keep in mind pausing is not a bad thing unless you do it mid sentence. You can't do anything about the topic now but just remember people are not usually paying as much attention as you think and if they are its because you are doing a good job

Good luck user. Don't pussy out and fail because of this.

Im thin and have a decent haircut but bad acne. I dont think I am repulsive but girls generally dont approach me so I guess I am like a 5/10.

Even if I pussied out I doubt I will fail since its only 10% of the grade and I have an A right now.

most people actually play games buddy
i just realized that there are alot of girls who legit watch anime and most guys will jus tthink this is like hearthstone
most normies have heard of magic too

Don't pussy out man. Trust me. You will need to do this stuff most likely if you get a job after graduating. You will have to speak and present things to higher ups so practice now. I am still not comfortable with presenting but I am a hell of a lot better because I had a professor who forced us to do presentations and even one class he made us basically have a debate where we had to come up with rebuttals to things on the spot in front of everyone.

naw man like most others have said, DnD may not be mainstream in that everyone knows how to play/have played but it is name that most people have heard of. you may not get any people interested in playing with you but im sure people will be attentive because its something they wont know very well. good luck tomorrow bro

Our professor actually showed us this video in class

If you feel nervous, start to sweat, start blushing hard etc. try to direct your attention outwards.
Deep breaths and focus on the room your standing in, what the people look like. If you start going red or whatever so be it, don't focus on yourself or it'll just get worse.
That's what helps me get through every day

I took a speech class in college. I fucking HATED it. I hated going and god did I hate speaking. I think I gave a few talks but the only one I remember was me sperging out with some psuedo Jow Forums tier shit about Israel and their nukes. It was not well received.

The thing is... I do not remember ANY person from that class. I dont remember their talks, I dont remember their names. I dont remember their faces. I didn't want to be there, and I didn't give half a shit about what anyone had to say.

Your classmates will be the same way. The ones who have to present after you will be obsessing about their shit (they are just as terrified as you), the ones who have already gone will be thinking about their hobbies, or other classes, or ANYTHING but judging you.

You will probably do better than you think, but even if you get up there and completely screw up, no one will care, no one will remember.

My only public speaking tip that I learned later in grad school, if your hands shake (mine do), make sure to steady them on something. If you are using a laser pointer rest your hand on your opposite arm to steady it.

Also if you take any drugs that you know very well how they effect you, it might help. I was high on a mild opiate to give my PhD dissertation. I'm fucking ashamed I had to be, but it did help.

OP here. Generally surprised by all the positive replies I got so I just wanted to say thanks everyone for the encouragement! I am actually feeling better now.

What this asshole said. Take an opiate/opioid. The rush of pleasure dulls anxiety. Actually works really fucking well. I always take a couple swigs of codeine cough syrup before I gotta do some big shit. REALLY fucking helps.

Oh, opioids can have really negative effects, so ya' know. Be mindful.

yea man just be confident about it and you'll be ok

Take a couple norcos (vicodin) 15 minutes before you're presentation and you'll be fine. Actually, you'll be fantastic.

THIS THIS THIS

Confidence (regardless of what the presentation is about) is 99% of public speaking. You can spew pure bullshit and as long as you do it confidently people won't care. Look at the president for example. He could spout about how YuGiOh is the best and everybody would eat that shit up.

10 minutes is gonna feel like an eternity. 600 clock ticks of a whole room staring.
I don't know you so I dont know if you rly have the ability to suck it up like I can. If no, take some drugs.

>inb4 op is a stuttering fuck and ruins the whole thing
Here, I even got a wojack ready for your next thread

just get a little drunk beforehand and you'll do fine probably

it can't be that bad. Why don't you show the presentation? Oh, and also rehearse if you think it's that bad.
so, this is the new Jow Forums hate yourself meme for the week? Nigga, everyone judges people on surface level, even you.

this is a cool concept to comfort yourself. not true though. Normans have no inhibitions and they tons of friends in every class to egg them on. Most people are normal.

>mfw I never thought to take a shot when I had comm intro

The presentation is in a google doc and has my name on it so not sure I want to share it here.

In my communications class, some unattractive overweight bearded male did a talk about dungeons and dragons. Everyone in the class was cool because no one really wanted to do speeches, and his speech was more entertaining than others because he was relatively enthusiastic and was able to good good insightful answers to questions people had.
So basically, just don't be a sperg. Post your script if you can't trust yourself to not say anything retarded. After you've vetted everything, practice it a bunch so you can recite it without effort, so you won't be a stuttering tard, and it can feel like you are just having a conversation.

I could post the script but it's kinda long (I actually have the problem right now of the presentation being too long).

You really just have to own it. There is nothing worse than being embarrassed vicariously because somebody is embarrassed about their own hobby.
If you seem like you genuinely enjoy it then the feeling will be contagious.

Use not only Magic: the gathering, also the Iluminati card game and a few more, and talk about the card games in general not only magic. Is going to be cool.

In fact you could derrail the entire shit, start with magic, go to pokemon and start with:
>BUT THEN I FOUND THIS THING
>*PULL OUT SLIDES WITH THE ILUMINATI CARD GAME*
>start a paranoia rant about sincronicity and how the world is fucked up.

Have fun user, have fun. Let your autismo fly.

user, remember this
nobody, NOBODY AT ALL gives a flying fuck about class presentations unless:
- you do amazingly well (subject doesnt matter)
- you do horribly bad (subject doesnt matter)
- the subject resonates with them

so as long as you dont fuck it up and run out crying, nobody will give a shit (hey, maybe you'll find a friend)

Sure, then post it. If you just want to know what to cut, you can just post an image of the text, or put it in pastebin for some edits. Also include requirements, like length, what should be included, how in depth, whatever.
And like I said earlier, and what said, no one is gonna care about your tard card game, but they will care if you act like a sperg talking about it. The reason your instructor encouraged this topic is because they thought it would make it easier for you to be interesting. Of course, if you go full sperg about magic cards, that's also bad, but not as being a stuttering nervous wreck.

Here is the pastebin: pastebin.com/PA9WTryp

I should mention that this isn't really a script but halfway between a script and a project outline I was suppose to do.Some stuff makes more sense with the visuals. I related my project back to some of the concepts we learned in class (This wasn't necessary, but said he would give us more points for it).

I had to do a long presentation like this and I did it on WoW. It's good to pick a subject like these because you'll have tons and f material to talk about, you don't have to worry as much about what you'll say, you can focus on delivery. Good luck, God speed.

Sounds like you need some acutane lad

Ahh just made me remember the presentation I did on how to play Warhammer 40k in community college. I even brought in my army to show everyone holy shit. At least Magic is something a bunch of people play and accessible, I looked fucking autistic rambling about specific rules and guidelines without giving any backstory or interesting details about the game at all. As long as your presentation is well-balanced with info and you deliver it with confidence (rehearsing helps) nobody will give you a second glance.

Seems alright, rather short though, but that depends on how you fluff out the full script, and what your time expectation is. Are you required/encouraged to have visual aids?
My only thoughts on the script are:
>Game takes place in a high-fantasy setting similar to that of Dungeons and Dragons, Harry Potter, or Game of Thrones
I'd replace DnD with Lord of the Rings, as that is more well-known, and anybody that knows DnD already knows the high-fantasy genre, so you would be able to get the idea across to more people.
>Both players start the game at 20 life
Perhaps explain what "life" is. I've never played MtG, but I know about yugioh and shit, so I assume that it is something similar.
I'd explain exactly how Chun goofed, like what the text on the card specifically implied. Don't go in too much detail, just explain how card had X text that required Y to be done first.
Otherwise, that's pretty solid. Before deciding to add/remove stuff, write a basic script and time yourself reading it to get an idea of how long it will actually take to say. While doing this, make sure to take your time and not rush it, because in my speech class points were taken off for talking fast, which of course happens when you are nervous, but having a solid script written ahead of time that you can recite word-for-word should help you to slow down in class.

>Perhaps explain what "life" is.
I thought about doing this, but then I thought most people play video games don't they? It's pretty much the same as health in any video game.I'm not sure how else I would explain it.

>I'd explain exactly how Chun goofed
I do this with the visuals. I even include a 30 second twitch clip of the actual mistake and have a picture of the card where I will just point to the important card text. In case you wanted to know, the card Chun was using has the text "can't attack unless you have one or less cards in hand" and Chun had two cards in hand. Once you declare an attack you are in combat, even if the attack is invalid, so he can no longer declare an attack that turn. He would have won if he only chose to cast the spells in his hand first.

I'll definitely try to make a script, thanks for the advice.

I did a presentation on neets a year ago and it went pretty well. People actually asked me questions and talked about relatives who were neets and were concerned about.
