People are busier and have more independant lifestyles nowadays plus we now have the ability to gleam a fucking database for potential mates that comes pre sorted for us and do so because its so much more convenient.
The reason long term reationships are rarer is because this method doesn't work well for developing long term relationships because its too easy to simply give up on one after a single confrontation and go back to tinder.
