Good shit. It took me a long ass time too, even benching the bar gave me mad DOMS for a while. Turns out my diet was complete dogshit and I was oblivious to how bad it really was, I count calories everyday now or I tend to undereat.

how long did the progress from 1/2 pl8 to 1 pl8 take. i've been working out for about 6 weeks and did 1/2 pl8 for 3 sets of 7 today and was stoked. but 1 pl8's the next milestone and it seems soooo far away.

Personally weighted dips have the best carryover to bench and OHP. You could also switch to dumbbell for a couple weeks for some form assessment and stabilizer activation

Keep it up man. Tbh bench was a real.struggle for me to get up. 1pl8 was even a struggle. Eventually through persistence it became one of my best lifts. Just be consistent and don't give up, always be willing to change something around if what you are doing isn't working.

So if I bench 50 lbs on each side of the bar, that means I lift 1pl8?
1plate is the total amount (1 plate being 45 pounds) divided by 2 and then placed on each side.
So a one plate bench is 2 tens and a 2.5 pound plate on each side of the bar totalling 45 lbs.
It gets more complicated when you go two plates as you have to account for the altitude obviously but I'm sure you get the gist of it

Drop the weight and pause bench press. Touch and go 1pl8 feels like air after.
Also don't psyche yourself up too much about the holy 1pl8 me and my roommate last year were on the struggle bus to get 1pl8 and not look like noobs in the gym we fixated on it and it became even more difficult. I swear to fucking god 135 is heavier when you just have one 45 plate on each side vs having a 25+10+10+5...

you know when you go to the gym and there are different size plates?
the biggest ones are what people talk about when they say 1pl8, 2pl8 etc
1 plate = 20kg = 45 pounds
benching 1 pl8 = 1pl8 on each side of the bar (40kg total) plus the bar (proper bars weigh the same as 1 pl8) so thats 60kg total
benching 1.5 pl8 would equal 1 pl8(20 kg) on each side plus a 0.5 pl8 (10kg) on each side meaning 30 kg a side plus the 20 kg bar for a total of 80kg
"dont count the bar" is a Jow Forums meme, when you lift the weight of the bar doesnt disappear so obviously you count the bar because you are lifting that as well
