Pisses me off to listen to vegans and other people who don't know what the natural world is like and spew "facts" about meat production. I've seen firsthand how disgusting slaughter can be, my family has been in the meat industry for a while. It's a necessary evil, but it's not any better for wild animals.

There's this fantasy that people create on how nature is some sort of utopia for animals. I've lived in Wyoming all my life, free range cattle are some of the healthiest meats you can have and they live their lives happy, eating grass all day until they become fat and mature. But the Deer, Elk, Moose, Antelope that live around me aren't in some bliss. They have to fight to survive everyday. There is no such thing as a peaceful death for a wild animal. I remember as a kid sleeping outside some nights, looking at the stars, and listen to the wolves hunt elk. They separate it from the herd and antagonize it for however long it can take. Eventually it's run off a cliff. I can remember the screams from Elk as they try to get up with their broken legs. They become quiet after a while and then begin their screaming again as the wolves make it to the Elk and eat them alive. Nothing is left behind the next day. Predators don't mercy kill their prey like most people believe. The animal more often than not goes into shock until enough blood pools from it's body and finally dies. I can guarantee that most of the prey animals in the greater Yellowstone ecosystem die from predation, diseases, or the elements. No wild animal dies peacefully from old age. They die violently. When I shot my first deer, I didn't feel bad about it. I was going to put his body to use and eat his meat and tan his hide. I thought of it as a mercy kill.
