This. Good thing ruined by DUDE LOOK AT MY ASS LMAO
Inexperienced practitioners would benefit by having an instructor critique their form.
Hard to see/feel if you're correctly aligning yourself when untrained
any recommendations on where to start?
Yoga is just glorified stretching. Like 90% of the yoga positions can be done more efficiently just by doing a more efficient stretch in a simpler position. Feels like it's a middle road between stretching and meditation but somehow failing at both
What happened to brap-posting?
Agree, I haven't done too many classes but they're all paced too weirdly to properly breathe and stretch.
Yoga is just making stretching a psychedelic experience. But most are too afraid to open themselves up in that way
Yoga is not just stretching. It requires a great deal of endurance and works stabilizers by having you hold your body weight for a great deal of time.
I went to a yoga class and my delts got the run of their life

Certified yoga instructor here. This is correct.
I love yoga. Pic was my yoga teacher for one year and author of the book 2100 Asanas. He claimed that he got his body only doing yoga with no weight training. It can have cardio, strength training, flexibility and it includes focused breathing and meditation. I recommend ashtanga yoga as it is more athletic than other styles. It got me into killer shape with a ton of energy at a time when I was bored with lifting weights. I highly recommend it.
The sequencing and pacing of classes can vary wildly, from super picky and slow Iyengar classes to hot yoga flow classes which never stop.
The best pacing is yours, using your own breath. When I teach, I teach a slower, more focused class. Everything is based on each student's breath. For example, we'll go into and out of a pose once (say, inhale to go in and exhale to come out) to learn the pose. Then go into the pose, hold for one full breath, then out. Then go into the pose, hold for 2 breaths, then out. Then go into pose, hold for 4 breaths, then out. Then maybe 8 breaths, depending on the pose and the class. But I let everyone finish at their own pace, since some people breath faster than others. And some people may hold a pose for 8 breaths, but other people fail out at 6 and come back to a resting pose; that's fine. Everyone does what they can and gets better.
If you want a class like this, try an Iyengar studio and ignore any "hot yoga" and/or "flow" classes. You could still ask those instructors, though, if they could point you towards a slower, pose-and-breath-focused class.
Ah, this is where I see the difference my friend. For me the benefit of yoga is that you DON'T HAVE TO focus on the stretch in a sense that somehow it's not the most important part of yoga practice.
When stretching I try to do it as well as possible whereas in yoga the journey is the purpose not the end. I'm not concerned witth whether I did my strechtes correctly. I just relax doing the yoga positions
I like this video a lot. A bodybuilder tries yoga.

Not an argument.
yoga is the preschool version of breakdancing. I have danced for about 9 years and have competed as well. Some girl introduced me to yoga and it was all so fuckin easy. Not sure what the point of it is really other than making yourself think you had a good workout when you actually just did nothing
Leave and never return. I bet your a dumbass roastie too
>brapthots
gib sauce plz
poo in the loo pajeet sport xD
You're a fucking terrible instructor if you'd encourage people to start doing yoga without an experienced person there to correct their form.
Is that wii fit trainer?
yoga is a worshipping to hindu gods, therefore heretical
pilates is okay though
Is there anything like yoga without all the energy flow bullshit? I just want to strech better and have a good posture/balance.
Not him but attacking your garbage invalid appeal to authority is a fucking argument you double nigger piece of shit
You'll still reap great benefits even doing yoga badly

More ROM in weightlifting movements, less prone to injury mostly. Also it's pretty dope putting on your own socks without a problem
>Tfw no Yoga gf
BRAAAAAAAP
Not him, but (beginner) yoga isn't like weightlifting where you can very easily permanently injure yourself by doing it wrong. It's more forgiving. I'd say it's closer to running. Most people can go out and just run and be fine, even though there is actually specific ways to run for different purposes and most runners have shit form. Yoga is just fucking stretching and isometrics at the end of the day, and unless you are just so fucking broken or out of shape you'll be fine.
The yoga instructor here again. This is true. Some decent YouTube vids or going to a couple of classes would be enough for most people to pick up 3 or 4 poses decently and be able to do them. Having an in-person instructor is always better for the reasons stated. But I don't hear people screaming "OMG YOU DON'T HAVE A PERSONAL LIFTING TRAINER?! YOU'RE GONNA DIE AND ANYONE WHO SAYS YOU DON"T NEED A TRAINER IS A HORRIBLE INSTRUCTOR!!!111!"
I mean, if you're too stupid to try to touch your toes, I'm not sure what to tell you.
