When should I start using mixed grip for deadlifts?
I just did 1 plate today for 3x10 (I'm a 6' 150 lb skelly, it took me 2 months to get here) but I felt like the bar was rolling out of my fingers by the last few reps. I didn't feel any deficiency in back or leg strength.
My friend recommended that I should start using mixed grip, but I don't know if it's too early.
When should I start using mixed grip for deadlifts?

Get chalk or liquid chalk as soon as possible, but basically whenever you have grip issues. It wouldn't hurt to do more grip work as well (lots of vertical and horizontal pulls, carries, holding your last rep in a set for 10-15 seconds, etc.)
Try doing pull-ups or deadhangs with just your fingers to strengthen them.
I just started being able to do 5 pullups, so I'll start doing those more.
Does mixed grip have any detrimental effects? I'll be switching up arms of course.
If you keep your arm bent during the pull then you can tear a bicep, it also causes a slight muscular imbalance, but it shouldn't have a major impact on you, regardless of if you switch hands or not. It can also cause you to windmill your deadlift, so you need to make sure you're keeping your lats engaged and the bar close to you.
Your arm being the supinated (under) hand side
dont.
develop grip.
im stalled at 255lb dl because of grip as well after a month of SS.
your forearms should be sore, I know mine get fucked up.
I could lift heavier, but doing slowncontrolled movements at 255 gives my forearms some building.
You're over 135? Time to strap the fuck in, boyo!
>that 30 year old at the gym that uses straps to deadlift below 3pl8
So as long as I'm careful it shouldn't really matter?
get some grip trainers.
i'm stuck around 350lbs and i'm working up to a 405 with the only inhibitor being my grip.
How has no one mentioned hook grip?
user, there is only one righteous path, and it is the one of thumb pain and natty grip
i've never used a mix grip, and my DL still keeps going up every week
don't be a pussy
1. Get chalk.
2. Use double overhand as much as you can.
3. Switch to mixed or hook grip when you are about to literally fail a rep.
4. Stop doing 3x10 deadlifts and get a real program.
5. Stop doing 3x10 deadlifts
6. Get on a real program.
t. DLs 80kg
Don't listen to this moron. Mix grip and develop the muscles meant to be used in the lift.
What jackass does deadlifts for firearms? Holy shit, I would be embarrassed to be seen lifting 255. You suck.
>forearms should be sore
are you doing like 20 reps per set or some shit? i could understand this if you are holding the barbell for an extended period of time, similar to farmers walk or dead hangs
Pretty much
Enjoy your fucked up thumbs
the only thing i kind of dont like about hook grip is the need for chalk. my gym does not allow it and my fingers get sweating when i get to the working set and during the set. My gym also has those plates with edges so everytime i put the barbell down, it moves around forcing me to redo my stance and grip
imagine doing clean and press like that lmfaoo thats fucking gold standard whey buddy
>enjoy your fucked up thumbs
can you show an example? i always hear bicep tears and thumb injuries from mixed and hook grip are rare.
the barbell would be landing on your face rather than on your shoulders
>thumbs are smashed
>look like fat brown raisins
>scabby and rough patches of missing skin
>grown men visibly recoil from shaking my hand
>in the gym though, in the temple of iron, my few bros mire grip when I diddle
>no pussy straps, no weight belt, no sumo
>roid-clit in short shorts visibly aroused
>"she" laughs, "you're kinda strong aren't you?"
>dry spell, lift 445lbs for first time ever
>"her" face when
Dis one knows da whey bruddahs
Also if you have a bar that rotates shittily then it can feel like it's yanking out your thumbs and severely limit your pull
People constantly tear the shit out of their thumbs with hook, even with tape, and the thumb joint isn't designed to have hundreds of pounds hanging off of it. Bicep tears are pretty rare overall unless you act like a retard or you're on roids.
This place is really extra autistic when it comes to mixed grip.
It doesn’t make sense to stall your DL to train grip. So use mixed whenever you have to - for your heaviest set. Use normal grip for all your warmup sets and do other grip work as well.
Rack pulls are better for developing grip strength.
i lift at home and have hardwood floors.
I lift fast and hard, lower the bar slowly and carefully to not damage my floor.
If I just dropped it like some crossfitter fag, I'd be lifting higher for reps.
I'm sure he meant 255 kg... right?
You can lift carefully with mixed grip. Wtf is wrong with you? Are you just autistic for forearms or is your deadlift seriously that weak?
I can 1rm 300 which is all the weight I own.
However, when lowering the bar down carefully my grip will give and I might let it fall a few inches and damage my floor, so I dont let my ego rule me, and only lift for sets what I can control.
What I do to work on my grip strength is during my deadlift warm up I do double overhand thumbless grip as heavy as I can go, then switch to regular double over hand and then mixed grip. I can pull 3 plates thumbless and have no grip issues pulling 5 plates. I also do thumbless for almost all my other pulling exercises.
I dl 365lb wearing nothing but regular shorts, cotton underwear, socks, and shoes. No weightlifting specific clothes, no gloves, no belt, no faggot chalk. Mixed grip. Come at me fags. Also I've been lifting 6 months, no idea if 365 is good or bad for that length of time.
Right now.
Faggot.
faggot
It only goes up every week cause you are lifting nowhere near your max you fucking faggot.
Anything below 3 plate should be double overhand
not being able to hold your grip is a warning sign retard, don't ignore that
365 lb dl is like 8 months of SS
You're supposed to start at 1 plate. You don't need switch grip ever. Use hook grip when you get to at minimum 2 plates
Rebuild a car = mega grip gains
What's bad about mixed grip? I'm a new lifter and my grip started failing at like 200lb and I switched to mixed grip and never looked back because I don't wanna drop the weights. I'm at like 235lb deadlift now, weigh 145
>When should I start using mixed grip for deadlifts?
When your grip becomes your limiting factor. Dont let your grip strength hinder your diddly progress. Just dont curl the fucking barbell mid deadlift and you will be fine. Do dead hangs, pull ups, farmer walks, whatever to work your grip strength up so you wont need straps.
>weigh 145
do gomad
Having someone who's physically inactive and weak as fuck start at 1 plate is a terrible idea.
do double overhand until your grip starts to fail then swap, you'll learn your limits and it will improve with your deadlift anyway. Don't let your grip hold back your deadlift though, you can train it separately too but there really isn't that much reason not to use mixed grip if you need to. Of course there is always hook grip but I like my thumbs
get an gripper you mong and learn how to hookgrip properly.(it shouldn't hurt)
The moment you switch to mixed grip is the moment you've started ego lifting
I started mixing at 2pl8, but once i started doing 3pl8, my grip can easily take 2pl8s no problem. Do some dead hangs for 60+ seconds to get your dumps up
i DL 4pl8 for reps, and i can safely use double overhand up to 3.5pl8
People who recommend hook grip are universally autists.
false

You could be deadlifting more if you used it
>I just did 1 plate today for 3x10 (I'm a 6' 150 lb skelly, it took me 2 months to get here)
fuck me cunt, I'm 140 and I'm up to 4x6 100kg after two months
Don't be a bitch and increase your grip strength. Do Farmers carries, hang on pull-up bar until failure, do pullups (keep your chest down faggot). Also make sure your lats are engaged when you deadlift... This should take work away from your forearms
Just buy straps they're like $10
If your grip isn't limiting you on double overhand dl you have severly underdeveloped back/legs or you're a fucking crab
No. Because I've never failed a deadlift on grip and I pull over 700lbs.
No grip strength can pull you out of your pathetic life you fat pig, how about that
Nobody cares you piece of shit
Tell me which parts are pathetic pls.
You mix grip. That's a suboptimal position, the undergripping side is shorter and has less lat activation. So being able to double overhand, like in a hook grip, would give you an advantage
That's horseshit.
If you want to use double overhand on heavy dl you use straps not hook grip you autistic fucking retard. Hook grip is for oly lifters and even they avoid using it too much to not destroy their thumbs.
The part where you lie online about how much you deadlift
He's not lying, I'm sorry that you're new as fuck
What are you his girlfriend?
