Good choice user
Do it. Strive for the million meter club.
try and find it used
or buy a kayak and develop a hobby
Do they make those for men HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! LOL!!!!11!
Why aren't you buying used?
>$10/month gym
>$900
>7.5 years of gym time
>or buy a shitty rower that will break and never be used after 6 months
Buy one off craigslist and use that first. If you decide you really really really like it after several months of use, drop the 900. Ive seen mostly working ones on there for like 100-200 bucks.
$900 is a lot of money to commit unless you are SURE this is the right decision.
>a kayak
Opinion discarded
You've seen recent model Concept 2 rowers for 100-200 bucks, that are in good working order? Bullshit.
I think it's pretty clear he meant buy any kind of cheap machine to try regularly before investing in something you might not like.
>i need a new machine mommy
The old school rowing machine I've used feel better than concepts imho. Go ahead, dump 900 on a brand new state of the art machine. It might as well look fancy as it collects dust and takes up a quarter of your garage.
Remember kids, its not about how much much you do, its about how much of a high class faggot you feel like while tripping over the expensive machine you don't use. Solicit a response from fit and get pissy I guess. Just my advice.

Are rowing machines worth it?
Wtf is that
Do not use this machine, it's trash. Buy a c2 used.
The model Ds are nicer and quieter than the model Cs.
Get a quality used one and you'll cut the price in half. Sure they'll ask more but there's no shortage of them so there is always going to be a boogie or some fat cunt who's never used it with one to sell if you wait around.
Also don't rule out getting a Model C with upgraded sprocket and chain, pm3, 4, 5 and ergo handle if the price is right. The Ds moulded plastic fan casing is what makes it quieter.
I sold my model C after I joined the gym because the new model D was smooth, admittedly that was down to my old machine, seat bearings with old chain old pm2 etc... You wont miss what you don't have so I was fine with it until I was exclusively using the gym rowers.
Chances are if you don't row regularly at the gym already you're not going to use this though. If you buy used at least you can sell it, I sold mine at a profit after a years good use.
Very good investment if you have the discipline to do 0.5-2 hours of cardio every day.
Rowing makes you jacked. Works basically every muscle in the body
Fastest I've gone on camera. Have a 132m that I didn't take a pic of
I can't be on one of those for longer than five minutes without collapsing. How do I fix that?
Buy a used concept2, you will save a ton and with a bit of maintenance they almost don't age
yes.
do it more, improve form
Am I the only one that gets nothing out of that thing? Maybe I am doing it wrong, but I can get on it forever and I don't feel the same exhaustion I get from running for 14 minutes.
I think I will have enough saved up by May or June to buy one myself. I can't find any second hand ones on the internet but if I did they would probably still ask 900€ for it anyways so I might as well spent a tiny bit extra in having a brand new one.
Y?
They work the most muscles out of every cardio machine
Spend $250 on a used one and go on a nice weekend vacation or something with the spare cash.
>$10 a month
Cheapest gym is $60 a month where I live.
Op I really wouldn’t buy that though, they’re good but you could do so much free cardio and spend the $900 better
Cheapest gym for me is €35 per month and it's only open mostly when I am at work 9am-8pm and you can be sure as shit it's packed in the last few hours. I'm saving for my home gym.
X-Trainer works out more and burns calories faster
Join a rowing club?
Buy a used one, also for the love of God never buy anything outside of concept, they're just not as good.
Also remember to have good form otherwise you'll fuck up your back.
As for Basic training
Do 4x15 minutes M,W,F at 18-20 strokes per minute Full pressure
For Tuesdays and Thursdays do
6x500 meters at full pressure and at a 30-32 Strokes per minute
After around 2 weeks once you feel comfortable with 4x15 minutes push it to 3x20 minutes, then 2 weeks after 2x30 minutes, then 1x45 minutes, and finally 1x60 minutes
Same goes with the 6x500, eventually push to so you do 8-10x500 meters
Also supplement it with lifting, squats, barbell row, dealift, and benchpress. Rowing is around 60-80 percent legs so most lifting will involve legs and some arm work.
Good luck and do Fat Ergos
And also for the love of Good if you want to improve your row times Eat, Eat FFS.
At the very minimum eat 4 large meals a day. The MWF workouts usually burn ~500-700 calories an hour so you'll need lots of calories.
Slightly off topic, but is it normal to feel that rowing isn’t much of a workout? I’m doing 5k in 24 minutes on my gym’s concept 2, and I barely sweat compared to a similar time spent running.
Whats your Stroke per minute rate when doing it?
A decent-good college rower on average can do it in 20 minutes
I don’t recall. Is there a range and resistance I should be targeting?
Ok, for a 5k what our coach recommends is starting off at 24 strokes a minute, its the upper right portion of your screen. Every 1000 meters increase the rate by one stroke and at the last 500 meters go at around a 30 SPM Rate.
As for resistance, theres a lever on the right with a 1-10 on it. That's known as the damper, the higher it is the more resistance it has. The units used for resistance are known as drag factor and it basically stimulates water resistance.
The drag factor can go from a low of around 80-90 on a damper setting of 0 up to 180+ on a damper setting of 10.
However, the drag factor mentioned above is only on a new rowing machine. The more its used the more the chain, and other mechanisms inside it deteriorate and the 180+ drag factor at a 10 damper setting can turn to around a 150-160 drag factor.
For a short manlet like me the drag factor setting I use is around 110-120 on a damper setting of 3-5 depending on the condition of the machine
If you're taller and heavier the most I'd suggest doing for drag factor is 120-130. Any drag factors above that are usually meant to stimulate rowing upriver with a heavy current and shit water conditions.
this means absolutely nothing. I can hit 1:15 for that long. Just do actual cardio instead of egotraining.
You arent exerting yourself
Self absorbed cunts.
And you're starting with this piece of Chinese plastic for $900? Geez
For that amount of money you could get a nice road bike, cleats and even a roller for winter.
Or you could save another 500 dollars and get a versaclimber
Thanks! Typically, I set the damper to five, though I guess I need to raise that level to correct for the wear on the machine.
While you can get a decent road bike for $900, you'd have to spend additional money for pedals, shoes, clothes, helmet, etc.
Don't waste almost a grand you fucking retard just do other stuff for free. You can get pretty strong doing all sorts of bodyweight stuff for free with maybe a few items if absolutely necessary.
I'm so glad people are being memed into buying these
>Going to the gym
>Not lifting nude at home
>just do push-ups forever
