Is swimming supposed to be this hard? I can run 6 miles straight (over 1 hour, so pretty slow) but I can barely swim more than a 25 yard pool without stopping.

I can see a major breakthrough there buddy. Just keep on digging
How do you get better at running?... By running!
That's how you get better at swimming.
its cause you skipped back day
> have okay endurance in the ultimate form of cardio
> expect it to at least carry over to another form of cardio
> nope, I'm struggling to swim what a kindergartener could
i can swim a 500m breast stroke in 9:50 but cant run a 400m without gasping for air and being completely dead
is shooting a three pointer supposed to be this hard? i can drive a golf ball over 300 yards (only 4 practice swings, so not very precise) but i can barely do a lay up.
kek, same, i can swim like a god for hours, but jogging/sprinting for 30 seconds destroys me
to be fare though i swim at my la fitness which only has a 25m pool and i can deadlift 5 pl8 so pushing off the wall i can easily go 15m just chillin gliding through the water, if i did it in a 50m pool i guarantee my times would be slower
It carries over but only slightly. Your swimming for just sucks

You're welcome faggots
i cant say i associate swimming and jogging in the same category as cardio, i mean, while swimming there is a lot less resistance and even if you run out of breath its most probably because of not breathing/taking breaths in at the right time for fear of swallowing or breathing water.
While jogging not only strains muscles and bones more but requires a fuck ton more breathing and lung contracting.
Ive never had side stitches during swimming even if i go apeshit fast, but i get them almost instantly after 10 seconds of jogging.
It sucks, but i definitely recommend swimming over jogging for a full body workout.
Similar problem. I can perform competitively in the Tour de France, but can't dead lift 900lbs for the life of me! Any ideas what might be going on?
pic related is me
While everyone's busting your balls, no, it's not normal to barely be able to swim a lap.
Care to extrapolate?
All about your form. I see tons of guys who start off and waste energy by kinda just flailing their arms and legs.
>being a nigger
I feel you body. Or atleast I felt you. I was in the same boat, though I wasn't really the stamina kinda guy in the first place. Long story short your technique just sucks. That's it.
I was struggling with swimming as well, turns out I was just not being patient enough with my strokes and was generally putting in too much energy so I was exhausted after like 50 meters as well.
Got my technique corrected by someone who knows their shit and now I can swim a kilometre without stopping.
Assuming OP isn't just flailing around like a retard with water wings on and making forward progress in the pool by chance, swimming shouldn't be that hard, especially for someone with any kind of cardio base. It'd be like if someone did pushups regularly, then tried benching one day for the first time and got chokeslammed by an empty bar. The carryover certainly isn't 1:1, but they shouldn't be that hopeless.
this
op youre probably thinking too hard in the pool
Is tennis supposed to be this hard? I can beat most of my friends at badminton (amateurs, so not very hard to do) but I can barely get the tennisball across the net
Amazing. You actually think that swimming is only about endurance? Fucking lol
Running works your lower body
Swimming works both your upper and lower body.
Plus, form is important in swimming and I'm just gonna assume that your form sucks donkey dick
It's weird to see people on both sides. For me, I can run for miles but can't even catch my breath if I stay in the pool after a few laps, the water pressure or some shit is too much
By... running?
You probably arent breathing properly.
OP it's all about technique and breathing, look at technique videos on YouTube remember in front crawl to reach far and glide then pull yourself all the way through. Practising bi-lateral breathing for a warm up helps with both keeping your technique symmetrical and lung capacity. Also I find with swimming unlike other sports it's easy to feel out of breath but you get used to the feeling and trust your breathing patterns.
t. Swims a 5k program every morning never swam competitively or for a team/club.
If it takes you over an hour to run 6 miles, your cardio is pathetic. Just do more volume at HR > 65% and you'll come along.

Literally the only answer.
Well shit m8 I deadlift 8 pl8 and I can jump from one side of the pool to the other without even entering the water but it's only 3m long.
