The biggest strongest NATURAL guys in the gym are athletic active guys who supplement or play around with lifting in the gym.
They'll be there long after the SS geeks give up after 2 years or snap their shit up forever and can't lift anymore.
I do SS and am stronger than most people in my gym. The strongest guy in the gym does SS as well, though he is sort of a genetically gifted and progresses linearly at like 5pl8s.

Read the book and then find your starting weights using the method that the book proscribes. Even if it's a little lower than what you're doing now, you'll blast through your old prs quickly.

Wrong, SS is good for people who are insecure about going to the gym because they don't know what the fuck they're doing and they need someone to help them but they don't have any friends who could go with them and show them the ropes. It's a simple routine (if you don't do the power clean bullshit) that's easy to follow and will make someone feel like they are actually progressing and feel like they'll soon be out of the awkward newbie stage.

I get mired doing babby weight clean and jerks by women of all ages at my local community center gym (like 135-155lbs). Doing any explosive lift looks amazing to normies.

You could run any of the following if you're a late beginner/early intermediate, if you're still getting good strength gains on SS, just stick it out for another month or two.
GSLP is a good next step, similar in structure to SS, but with more hypertrophy work, a chance to rep out, and loads of fun bodyweight and conditioning stuff overall geared towards looking better and being a more useful human
The bodybuilding.com forum has a decent program called geneswest 5/3/1 which is effectively a high frequency upper lower bastardised out of 5/3/1, and it's generally a good time, you'll make good gains on it
A 4 day upper lower is a good next step as it's easy to recover from any amount of volume you choose to do.
If you want to go a little bit different, with a programme I've never seen recommended on Jow Forums is Dan John's easy strength programme, which is often called his 40 day programme, and I'd really recommend it

To be fair I was doing ‘SS’ for a lot of it. I broke out of several stalls from reading more about the program and doing it better. My latest streak has lasted about 3 months of linear progression.

a strength routine will make you strong, and build significant muscle mass. if you do it properly (train right, eat right, sleep right, avoid anti-gains hazards like alcohol or drugs) then you will look different (bigger) within a few months.
