Being smart is dependent on working out your brain from an early age. Meaning your parents needed to be your spotter and make sure you were doing book exercises to failure. Meaning you would develop this habit and carry it into your adult years.

Literally read everything you can get your hands on. Actually read it, process it, consider how the new knowledge you just acquired fits into other areas of life. Whenever you're confronted with a word or a concept that you don't understand, Google it and read the Wikipedia article. Write. Write as though you're trying to convince a jury of your viewpoints. This will force you to find and read sources for your opinions.

Doing this will put you in the top 5% of people in terms of intellectual potential.

Reading books and articles is great, but what I find really seasons your intelligence is reading discussion on the topics you've read about in books. You learn what the conventional wisdom is, you usually learn a few hot takes, some more obscure authors on the subject, etc.

I disagree with all of this weird if you were dumb as a child you will be a brainlet forever thing. I remember I switched middle schools and was completely BTFO by everyone in my classes. My father, a blessed brainlet of a man who never finished highschool, essentially pounded the material into my brain with a hammer out of some pseudo feelings of ineptitude at my performance. I ended up keeping the same discipline when it came to academic work and ended up at a top 10 university in my country. I'm only an undergraduate and have nothing to compare it to but the financial aid is really good and the classes are excellent most of the time

No good school of medicine will accept a mediocre student with mediocre grades from a mediocre school. A math student from MIT would be hired in all but the most competitive applicant pools for almost any major company. Its way more about the pedigree than it is the skillset, the skillset is fucking irrelevant you learn the skills for the job as you do the job. I work as a financial analyst and haven't used black-scholes since I was 19

In Europe you study medicine as your undergrad and then go straight into your specialization after the 6 years of studying. Pretty much every graduate gets to specialize and be a M.D.

Feels good not to be in a shit county like the USA that forces you to waste 4 years and tens of thousands of dollars for a useless degree before going to med school.

I'm a medical doctor, and after having practiced for four years here in Norway, I make roughly 100k before taxes (about 65k after taxes) which includes 15 hour long shifts and barely any life besides work. In other countries people make four-five times as much. I really hate my life so much right now, haven't even got time to get Jow Forums.

How many hours per week are you putting in? US MD here. When I'm inpatient, I typically do 75-85 hours. In 4 weeks, I'll have a week where I'll do 90-95 hours.
