>What is /fast/?
Fast is a thread for the discussion of intermittent fasting, fasting, water fasting, and dry fasting.

>WHAT IS AUTOPHAGY?
It's when your body takes apart useless, shitty cells. (Cancer cells, cells with broken protein, acne, loose skin, etc)

>HOW DO I SAFELY FAST?
>take around 4700 mg of potassium per day max
>2000 up to 3000 mg of sodium per day max

>WHAT SHOULD MY FASTING ROUTINE LOOK LIKE?
If you're lean, 5:2!-- OMAD (one meal a day, 1-2 hour eating window) 5 days a week + 48 hour fast a week
If you're a fatass, FAST UNTIL YOU AREN'T.

>WONT I GO INTO STARVATION MODE AND DIE?!
You don't have the willpower to fast to death. Now look down. See that large bulbous gut? That's food. Thousands and thousands of calories stored and ready to be consumed by your body.

>WONT I LOSE MUSCLE?
This is the coolest part about fasting. Your body remains very anabolic when you fast.

first for water only

Daily reminder you don't need snake juice to fast, you can just take daily electrolyte/vitamin supplements (especially if doing a long term water fast)

You don't even need electrolytes for

Snake juice is your electrolyte supplement, dipshit.

Last day of my 13 day fast lads. I had some pretty good weight loss overall but I have been stalling for the past 4 days.

wtf lads, dry fasting isn't even hard after the first day Tbh

WHen I did it I got unbearable dry mouth - does that go away? Also are you doing a hard/soft dry fast?

Can you use water enhancers drink mixes or diet drinks if they're zero calories?

Attached: Gatts.jpg (418x370, 31K)

A lot of anons are strongly against it but I personally dont see a problem with them

Can I still fast if I’m not actually a DYEL and have appreciable muscle mass/lifts?

Yes just tune in your routine - rather than 14day+ fasts do like 5 day fast a week with 2 days of working out with your refeeds to maintain muscle mass or something similar depending on how much fat/muscle you have.

How long does it take to loose each kg?? I only need to loose about 5kg of fat if not less

Yeah and you dont need to consume it if you just take some electrolyte pills daily you dumb shit, learn how to read or atleast stop drinking your snake jizz while you absent-mindedly read this thread.

Evidence is pretty mixed on to whether diet sodas have an insulinotropic effect.

Whilst the two most common sweeteners in sodas (acesulfate k and aspartame have a glycemic index of zero and hence have no effect on blood sugar levels.

In terms of human trials, there is virtually no statistically significant increases in plasma insulin concentration, but within animal studies involving mice, these two sweeteners have been found to have a insulinotropic effect on beta cells within the islets of langerhan (which is where insulin is secreted), however you also have to consider that in the majority of these studies, rats were given a much higher dose of sweeteners (ranging from 150-3000mg/kg doses) than typically found in a diet soda (usually 180mg per can) of which the average human is anywhere from 50-90kg hence this would be a dose of anywhere from 3.6mg/kg to 2mg/kg.

In my own experience, I have tried fasting with and without diet sodas, I experienced no real negative effects with consuming soda except that my cravings/hunger pangs increased in intensity in the following hours after consumption and I noticeably had less sleep on a day when I consumed diet soda (although I rarely consume caffeine so it might just be my own personal effect)

If you're asking whether its gonna have a major effect on your weight loss, then I would have to say no.

You can only do PSMF, which isn't actually technically fasting but it gives a similar effect without losing mass

Hard. My mouth is definitely still dry but absolutely not to unbearable levels.

10-12 days for that

I posted this video in the last thread, it shows somebody testing his ketone levels before and after drinking a diet coke:

youtube.com/watch?v=sVQmeOEeMv0

Ketones lower significantly. However, the theory is that you'd quickly go back into ketosis since the body technically has no other energy source.

I say, as long as you don't overdo it or rely upon them, you'll be okay.

Water retention my dude, just keep going, it'll drop soon.

95 hours in

After seeing discussion here yesterday I really want to try the massive OMAD meme for my refeed

So, I've messed up my cut a couple of times so far and used 36-48 hours of water fasting to counteract it, with good results.

But how bad is this for my body?

Stress might go up a bit, you'll have decreased job performance for some periods and you'll look like a sperg when you reject having social meals/drinks with friends or during lunch time at work.

Fasting is good for your body so I'm not really sure the purpose of this question. But obviously it would be better to eat well and fast.

A single video is barely evidence of the influence of sweeteners on plasma insulin levels.

This systematic review of the metabolic effects of artificial sweeteners - ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3772345/ found results contradicting this video.

Aspartame does not cause a statistically significant increase in either blood glucose levels or plasma insulin levels and hence a corresponding increase or decrease in ketosis.

In my opinion, these sweeteners seem to have different effects on different people and so if you want to consume diet soda on a fast then do so, but you might run the risk of affecting your potential weight loss but for the most part if you're not overdoing it, it should be perfectly fine.

I meant, is there anything destructive about "solving" a few days of bad eating with two days of water fasting?

I mean, the answer is just that people should be monitoring their ketone levels anyway and adjusting accordingly.

It's getting hotter again and I'm noticing I can't do OMAD on working days. Low blood sugar and stuffy air makes me shake from weakness and almost collapse. What's an acceptable eating window to still get some IF benefits? Normies say 16/8 but that's not even that unusual.

carrying on from the previous thread, how much weight do you guys lose on OMAD?

I get diarrhea about an hour after refeeds. This has happened on 72 SJ and 40 soft drys. Sick throughout the night and into the morning, sweating all night.

One internet quack said that just meant that I should have fasted longer, and am inclined to believe that because I could have gone longer but didn't.

Wat do?

My leg is having weird vibration motions. Almost like a Charlie horse is about to happen but hasnt

Isn't this a symptom of low potassium? But I had a tsp and a half of no salt yesterday so I don't know why this is happening

>1.5 t no salt

Is that it? Nothing else?

Also that seems very high to me.

>muscle quakes

Also a sign of dehydration. Drink more water and crank back on the salts until you figure out what is right for you.

Just finished my first fast, 72 hours and only 1/2 L of water a day. How many days of refeed before restarting? I'm at 16% bf

get some magnesium
and play with salts intake

one fat loaded meal with greens, multivitamin and go again lad

Can I do more than 3 days now? Took some salt and potassium during fast and didn't feel too bad. Also managed to do light cardio everyday when waking up and late evening

Okay I'll drink a bunch of regular water right now. Also in addition to the 1.5 tsp of no salt, I also take about 1.5 tsp of himalayan pink salt too. Also I take ZMA at night so it can't be magnesium deficiency

Lads how the fuck do I drink snake juice, had one sip and gagged, almost threw up, no way can I drink 1.5 liters of this

idk, doesnt taste terrible to me

did you get the proportions right?

1.5l should be pretty diluted snake juice

Take your juice. Pour each half of it together with a glass of apple cider vinegar.

what are you craving bros

Raspberry jam on fresh bread

I did 3 teaspoons of Lo Salt (which is 0.4g salt and 450mg of potassium per 1.3g or 1/4 tsp). So calculated 3 teaspoons to be 5400mg of potassium and 4.8g salt (1920mg of sodium).

Is this ok? Alternatively, I’m only doing a 48 hour fast as it’s my first one, so would I be fine just having water? I have some nice lemon flavor electrolyte tablets as well (but they’re mostly citric acid). I have no ACV.

yesterday I ate one meal . it was huge so I didn't expect to see a loss on scale
I ate 1 onion , 2 avocados , 2 chicken drumsticks , half of a spaget squash , and a pint of halo top. a pint of blueberries and 7 strawberries with whipped cream on top. a tablespoon of almond butter and a hand full of walnuts.

you could have done a month without prior experience.

On second day (night) I dreamt of going to burger king.

Damn, didn't think so. Uni is stressful tho, empty belly took out the motivation to work as much as I wanted. Maybe i'll do a week now and keep up the training, maybe increasing it. Thx

Anyone with IBS gotten results with apple cider vinegar and baking soda?

I've lost 100 pounds with keto omad
but I started at 350 and it took a year
also I stalled
weighed 242 this morn
thanks fit

5400 is too much
make it 3000

As much as I did counting calories, but feeling better on OMAD.

nothing bad about it, as long as you are in the negatives for calorie intake at the end of the week and as long as you don't feel like shit. The only thing that might happen is that you wouldn't spare as much muscle since you wouldn't be fully fasting, but that is negligible at most if you are getting protein and such during your fuck up days. just make sure that you have a solid way of eating set up once you reach your goal body lmao.

I know most of you are fatties, but anyone successfully bulking with a fasting protocol?

believe it or not this is how I got fat lmao, I would basically do OMAD and eat a shit ton for dinner, making sure I got lots of protein because I lifted and did football at the time, got my lifts up to 1 pl8 ohp/2 pl8 bench/ 3 pl8 squat and 4 pl8 diddly for 5 reps each. Then I stopped lifting and footballing and ballooned up to 340 pounds because I was eating the same amount as before but did not think that I needed the protein anymore.

worse part is that I went from about 6'2 220 to that 340 from the end of sophomore year to the beginning of senior year, either way it works lol just make sure that you don't over eat and consume lots of protein.

if you have IBS, you need to dry fast

first, make sure your bowels are empty by doing a salty water fast, shit everythinh out

1 day before you dry fast, smash in the fucking salt like a chinaman (drink a ton of soup broth)

dry fast for 96 hours, re-salt, another 96 hours

and after that i guarantee you will have cured your IBS because you will have regenerated every inflammed dying cell in your intestines

t. Obese sloth

try drinking some snakes piss during the day to keep you going

Alright, I'll bite. I looked on amazon for electrolyte pills. Found this one

amazon.com/Nutribiotic-Essential-Electrolytes-Caps-Count/dp/B000OP252C/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1523112899&sr=8-3&keywords=electrolyte pills&dpID=51KRLJCw7hL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

The potassium and sodium you get from a pill is NOWHERE NEAR the amount of potassium and sodium that you can put into water to make snake juice. If the other pills are as weak, then this... really doesn't seem plausible

yeah this is the right answer, this question keeps coming up and its retarded

It's shit, snekjoos is the most convenient thing for a water fast.

I really, really want some peanut butter bros...

I'VE COME TO DRINK JEW SALT AGAIN

Attached: ljljlk.png (640x1136, 1.23M)

I have so much extra time through out the day now that i'm fasting. How do you guys deal with it?

went from mmo to mmo to get hooked

I masturbate a lot

I will break my fast with PB and pickle sandwich

Will tea break my fast?

Just started the 24-hour water fast. 9 hours in and the hunger pangs are unbearable.

Soon...

I research very interesting topics so that you don't have to. I then post my findings here so that I can get flamed by the 10% retard troll population here who don't know anything

did you know that in 1932 and 1933, Stalin starved +/- 5 million Ukrainians to death, deliberately, through force?

Moscow made policies that demand Ukrainians turn over their guns first, then they were forced to allow their farmland to be used to grow cash crops. The cash crops were farmed by local Ukrainians, and collected by Moscow-born officials and loaded onto trucks and trains. The crops were then exported.

Stalin promised Ukrainians that in exchange for their labor and land, he would feed them bread. He did not do this. Ukraine was blockaded by land and sea.

Ukrainians began to eat tree bark, leaves, scraps of garbage given to them by low level officials who would visit from Moscow, and ultimately they began eating each other.

Old man fell into the river and drowned? Cooked and eaten.

Children walking around at night by themselves? Kidnapped and eaten.

Thoughts? I would be breaking the dry fast saturday evening (i.e. when last meal was eaten thursday)

Bough a scale this morning. I’m down 25kg from my “peak”. Now to see if I can keep myself from stepping on it five times a day. Ate a really nice early dinner and now it’s time to shoot for a fast until Friday evening.

Do you work out at all? If so, what kind? Feel like I need to add, I'm not trying to attack you in any way. Don't take this the wrong way. I'm new to the threads this is a serious question.

I work during the week so it’s not a problem for most of the day. On weekends I clean and go for long walks.

Is starting your week with sunday american thing?

It's the first day I work out.

Eat better foods in smaller amounts. Early on I’d go apeshit and totally overeat and be in a hangover like state for the whole day

no problem I'm happy to answer it because you are genuinely new here and interested in what's going on :) thank you for prefacing your question like that

I'm 5'10" (178cm) and 140lbs (63.5kg) in that photo.

I cannot do a single pushup, I probably couldn't bench the bar, I do not have a job/hobby that involves picking up heavy boxes or etc. The reason for this, according to (((doctors))) and chiropractors and shit, is because I have a "nerve impingement". But it's not a typical nerve impingement like carpal tunnel or thoracic outlet syndrome. It appears to be "scar tissue" that has grown around a portion of the nerve after I had a downhill bike crash in 2012. I don't have symptoms when I'm not exerting myself.

I do however do a lot of cardio, specifically jogging. I've done half marathons and one marathon, at very very slow pacing (walking 75% of the time).

So this is what someone's physique will look like if they have no strength whatsoever but take a dehydrated, low bf% photo with good lighting and no chest hair :)

I have gotten chocolate as a gift and am hoarding it into a tupperware.
Whenever I am breaking my fast, I am weighing ~50g and eat it as a dessert to my "breakfast".
No problem, my problem is my family.
They NEVER stop eating what I get, even if it is a BIT sweet, they wolf it down and I am inbetween eating off their face alive or going "OK".
What do?
Yes, I know I have the issue of remembering my family of taking everything that might help me cope away.

You have a shitty family. No respect of individual property whatsoever.

Make a secret compartment in your desk in your room or something and hide your stash there. Lock it if you must. Never had issues with family but my roommates steal my beer and candy bars with my name on it in the communal fridge and the fuckers deny they took it. Bought a mini-fridge with a lock and put it in my room and I never had a problem since.

Is this just a "do americans really do this" shitpost or do most countries not start the week with Sunday?

fuck. I hope I can find a cheap locker then

Euros dont do this

I'm the guy that made the original post and I didn't even know americans do this, I just picked it because it was the first day I work out.

What day does your week start on?

Okay I don't remember them saying this so I'm asking it.

Is it normal for you to start peeing more frequently during a fast? Even if you don't drink too much water? Because every time I start I notice this for a bit until it slows down a little. Hoping to go 3 days here. Wish me luck bros.

Since the first 48 hours of a fast are the hardest, you're pretty much constantly putting yourself at peak hunger like this. If you really want to keep working out, you do you, but there are easier ways to fast, and being fasted is a naturally muscle sparing state.

i agree with everything in this post

everyone who is >6% body fat needs to just stop eating and working out for a month, shred 30lbs of fat, and then go do OMAD/OMEOD

Not if you are fat adapted. It takes me something like 12 hours to get to ketosis, and that's with carb loading once a week.

whats the problem with 'breaking your fast' if youre eating so small of daily calories anyway

>working out for a month
Wouldnt working out speed things up?

only marginally, as working out only burns a few hundred calories.

working out while fasted is very tricky and taxing. you open yourself up to injury and annoyance. i've done half marathons while dry fasting. it's unsustainable. just let your body eat itself

I don't want extremely low body fat either, I just want optimal metabolism and low inflammation.

I mean its at least 500kcal on weightlifting and 500-1000kcal on cardio days right?that got ro do something in a month.
How does body repair its muscles without any food tho?

Yes

Should also be noted that working out in itself won't burn that many calories, but the additional muscle mass certainly will increase your base metabolism. This is one of the things skeltals ITT fail to understand.

>How does body repair its muscles without any food tho?
it doesn't, and that's how muscles rupture. you don't want this

>500-1000kcal
an hour of daily cardio is about 300-500 excess calories. the trackers online greatly overestimate this shit

>i want low inflammation
don't exercise, don't eat, period, no questions

low(er)

where will you get protein from on a fast, you bloatmaxx dense cunt?

I'm not saying you should work out on fast days.

i saw a cosmetic surgeon for a consultation, i still have a flabby belly after losing weight (270 lbs to 165 at 5'10"). should i try to dry fast and shit instead? he said losing more weight wouldn't work but i'm planning to go down to 145, would that get rid of some of the belly flab? he seemed to think it wouldn't make that much difference.
