I was thinking about looking a bit more into religion, and reasoning for life and all that shit. I feel like I need to find myself or something like that.
As far as I can see monks appear to be the most badass but yet peaceful, calm and motivated people. Any monks on here care to share their teachings and how it has helped them find purpose in life?
Monks won't be on here. You clearly haven't got much common sense if you think they would be
Robert Flores
Any religious people at all then?
Dominic Long
Just google some books and what you want to know. IMO there is no meaning and the number one thing IMO to living a happy life is silencing of the monkey brain. google it
Jaxon Wilson
seems like they have all day to stretch and work out shaolin exercises around the clock on rice and tofu
Yeah. They just meditate and eat all day. Im not sure how they find the funds to do it but if you could combine calisthenics with it, it's probably an easy way to a good body.
Isaac Thomas
they do it by growing their own food and living off the grid while on the grid.
Jacob Edwards
>paladins are not a real thing Im so glad our imaginations make reality so boring
>not realizing a paladin is an archetype >not realizing the best thing you could possibly do is to strive towards being a hero archetype
Never gonna make it. All those muscle gains and no moral/philosophical gains will be the downfall of many Jow Forumsizens

>tfw calisthenics, meditation and studying is pretty much all you do in life
Elijah Stewart
not a monk myself, but i do train kung fu at a shaolin temple in madrid. the shifu there trained at a monastery in china for four years and he is the highest ranking budhist monk in spain and he's pretty much the authority for everything related to chan budhism. i'd be happy to try and answer as many of your questions as i can
Luis Ward
Buddhist monks are generally mendicants, i.e. they subsist off alms.
Samuel Allen
Monks don't follow a religion you ignorant fuck
Lincoln Morales
>went to chengdu, China >southwest China, near Tibet >full of baldhead buddhist monks in robes >they all drive new foreign cars >have iPhones >wear Nike sneakers
Ethan Allen
>any monks on here? nigga why would you come to a nepalese buddhist zen martial arts board looking for monks
Michael Myers
Started reading Travel Guide to the Buddha's Path by Eric Van Horn per the recommendation of some user on here, enjoying it so far. I got it for 99 cents on the kindle book store. I've always had an interest in Buddhism and this book is a great starting place if you actually want to practice it. There are a lot of branches of Buddhism and they make some weird deviations from Siddhartha's teachings, so I'm enjoying this because it gets more to the root of things. I also like the author's perspective a lot, he's an American so he knows where a lot of Westerners have hang-ups about certain things, like the whole reincarnation thing, and does a good job of putting things in cultural perspective.

What started it for me was when I finally read the bible and started praying and improving myself.
>Monks don't follow a religion you ignorant fuck Monks /məNGk/ :noun: a member of a religious community of men typically living under vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience.
Jaxon Myers
as someone who also went to China, I will back this statement up.
Being a Paladin isn't about the holy powers or the sword or the armor. It's about doing what's right and standing as a bulwark against those who would do wrong. Any man can do this as long as he has the will. Get big, defend the weak, live with honor. Go be a fucking Paladin.
Caleb Martinez
This sounds like some fucking Larp BS, I hope you don't mention this in public.
Zachary Bell
Yeah I dressed it up a bit but you know what, living righteously for a dorky reason is still better than being a cynical misanthrope. If someone's gonna knock a message of doing good because of how I say it then their opinion on the matter doesn't really matter that much. My example will change their mind or it won't, whatever.
I'm in the same position as you, I need a higher purpose or ideal to strive towards.
I feel like the more I deconstruct everything, the more inherently meaningless and disordered it seems. I don't think we'll find the answer in religion or mysticism tbqh, I found some comfort in reading existentialist philosophy; Nietzsche, Camus and Sartre, but there is no magical answer that will suddenly make your life seem meaningful or worth living.
We just gotta keep pushing forward despite this absurd world we find ourselves in.
Gavin Long
Hhaha hey girls this is user! He says he's like a paladin or something. What does that mean? Lmao
>I serve t-the light and fight degeneracy!
Jacob Gutierrez
Do I really want that kind of basic bitch anyway? Nah, I'll live the way I wanna live and be happy with myself. If I've gotta worry about being myself around people those aren't the people I need to be around.
