Rise and shine snowflake

So Jow Forums How many of you are early risers? How do you develop this habit of waking up early?

No screens and 1mg melatonin 1 hour before sleep.
Regular eating and sleep time rhythm.
Have responsibilities that require you to be awake and productive/don't be depressed.
It's not enough to just sleep 7+ hours. Your brain's sleeping cycles continue even whilst you're awake, so it's possible to sleep the wrong 7+ hours and be less rested than ideal. Figure out if you are a lark of an owl.

early to bed early to rise

sleep around 9ish wake up around 5ish

sleep cues help

I sleep 10:00pm to 5:00 am weekdays.

I get up early because I need to lift or else to get a good start on the day. However, my job is totally flexible so I can work like 7:00-2:00 if I want to

I quit drinking 2 weeks ago. Longest in probably 8 years. I decided to switch my gym time to the morning. Get up at 5:45, at gym by 6. Lift till 7:15ish. Get home, shower/shave, whey, yogurt, coffee. Leave for work at 8:30.

Feels fucking good man. Not drinking has changed me a lot. I get up around 7:30 on the weekends and get shit done instead of being a hungover depressed piece of shit.

So, what about showering and getting dressed?

You wake up, and head straight to the gym?

What about hydration in the morning? I don't understand people who can wake up dehydrated and go straight to the gym

i shower when I get back. My gym is also a 5 minute walk from my apartment. I drink a lot of water throughout the day and feel okay during my workout. By the end I'm pretty thirsty desu but its not bad. But yeah I wake up and immediately head out. Takes me a few warmups to feel awake.

In bed and asleep between 8-9:30 most weeknights. I usually wake up 4-6:30. All it takes is the discipline to stick to a schedule.

Pro-tip: Do something you love right after you wake up. Luckily for me that's lifting.

3:30-4:30 wakeup here. Used to struggle waking up for work at 8:30 until I made it a point to get at least 2hrs in at the gym in the morning. Quickly started beating my alarms to the point I beat my 4:30 alarm almost every day.

What field are you in?

Like anything else just do it enough and it becomes easy

My man, let me ask you something

I lift twice a week at 5 am, and go to bed at 9:30, but I'm unable to do this two days in a row because I'm simply too tired. Can you give me some tips? Aside from these two weekdays I lift at 9am on saturday and sunday and I get quite a lot of sleep during the weekends.

My title is Sytems Analyst but I'm basically a sysadmin for a media company.

I figured it would be IT related

You the server guy or network team?
How busy is it in the mornings in the gym ?

>Have responsibilities that require you to be awake and productive/don't be depressed

This is the most important part. Having a reason to get up early makes the process all snap in place easily.

I have a 4 month old, I’m up and down from my about 4am to 7am then if he’s not back asleep by then i just get up so I can get him and myself ready for the day. I actually don’t mind the schedule, waking up early isn’t a task anymore it’s just part of life

It takes me well over an hour to drive to work currently. I get up early from necessity. Its just a habit building thing, you have to adjust your body to getting up that early. Going to bed at a decent time helps.

Doesn't the wife just deal with the kid? Why you waking up early

I'm an early riser. I like to workout in the morning.
Bed from 9-10 and awake at 6 every day.

Tips:
>No screens 30 minutes before bed
>Read a little bit before bed
>Make sure you take time to wind down before sleep
>Shower as soon as you wake up if you're not working out
>Eat a good ass breakfast
>A single cup of joe with breakfast
The reason for this is that there's really nothing quite like that first cup of the day. It's something to look forward to.

Other than that, you just gotta fuckin do it m8. Once you get in the habit you won't want to sleep in.

I like to wake up early and she would rather get as much sleep as she can so typically if he wakes up earlier in the night she takes care of him then and if he’s still up and down/needs more attention by 330-4am we trade off

engineering dept so servers. I do a lot of virtualization and security related stuff. My gym is fucking empty in the morning because the hipsters aren't awake yet. That is why i switched to mornings because evenings were fucking packed and it was always a fight for a barbell.

Do you ever shitpost from work?

Anyway, what does your workout look like weekly? Do you really wake up early just to go to the gym?

Yes but from my phone.
I took pic related and use that as a base. I add in other stuff but follow that "big 3" rotation.
And yes but it's also nice to start your day early and check news and relax before work. There might also be some "emergency" early in the morning (server down etc) I'm actually working from home today because of the crazy flashfloods this morning.

Fuck, I work from home like 90% of the time
You ever get bored and shitpost all day or do you have projects/meetings that take up your time?

nah i mean i'm shitposting right now lol
I do get bored sometimes and need to go for a walk or something and get a coffee. But only really WFH like 1-2 times a week.

Right now i'm waiting on a server delivery that will happen in like 2 weeks, then i'll be busy as fuck. Whats your field?

I'm in cybersecurity but have experience in various fields in IT

I've been doing this for years now and dont understand how some people can wake up before 7am.'
I usually stay up until 10-11pm and wake up right before work

Work is simple though, i work from home most of the time and just investigate shit

Cool. I plan on getting Splunk Admins certs this summer so I can move and get a comfy security job.

Right on

Splunk is legit and actually has more uses than most people realize at first

I've spent a few years in security now, I love it and the pay is great.

What state are you in? There's a ton of companies out there with security positions always open

NYC. Is Security+ a meme? also totally derailed this thread lmao

Not really a derail..

Anyway, the sec+ is legit for entry level and some roles would consider hiring someone just for that cert

It isn't bad it just doesn't teach you actually cyber security. The cert is really good for network admins who are looking to learn more about security but an actual cert dedicated to "hacking" would probably be the OSCP or sans courses material. Get one of those certs and get hired within weeks for merchant processes or places like visa, mastercard etc..

The sec+ is simple though if you have some experience in the field. I read 3 chapters of the book and took the test and passed it with no problem

It depends on the individual though

I don't have a social life so I am in bed by 9:00 and fall asleep by 10:00. This means I wake up between 5:00 and 7:00.

Thanks for the info. I have 4 years experience working as an admin so I think it would be fairly easy for me. I want to switch to security though and focus on Splunk. Seems like a nice gig.

I really just developed the habit out of necessity. When I became self-employed I sometimes decided to wrap it up early and leave some work for the next day. That usually meant I had to get up earlier than usual and catch up with work. After doing it a few times I kept waking up before my normal alarm would go off and I still do. I have an alarm set to 6.30, but almost always wake up around 5:30. The time I go to bed varies, but it's usually around 10-11pm.

Find a reason to get up early everyday and stick to it
