FAQ Q: How do I fast? A: Don't eat. Q: Won't I go into starvation mode? A: No. Only occurs at extremely low body fat Q: Won't I lose muscle? A: Not if you lift. Minimal loss even if you don't. Fasting boosts HGH ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5064803/ Q: How long will it take to lose X lbs/kg? A: Enter zero for daily calories. losertown.org/eats/cal.php Q: Can I eat (something with calories)? A: No. Even a 5cal piece of gum breaks your fast Q: Can I drink 0cal black coffee or tea? Diet soft drinks? A: Debatable. May lessen some benefits of fasting Q: So I only drink water? A: For longer fasts, you should supplement electrolytes. Mix 1/2 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp potassium chloride in water and sip it throughout the day. Headache=more salts. Watery shits=more water Q: Where do I find potassium chloride? A: Stores have it where they keep the salt. Names include NoSalt, SaltLite, etc Q: Do I need a multivitamin? A: No. Q: How long does it take to get into ketosis? A: Everyone's different. Just stop eating Q: What are the benefits of fasting besides weightloss? A: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3946160/ Q: Why not just restrict calories? A: You will be hungrier, fuck your metabolism, and not receive fasting's other benefits
GLOSSARY Autophagy: When your body eats useless cells (loose skin, scar tissue, etc). One of the benefits of fasting Dry Fasting: Fasting without any water. Dangerous, but some say it speeds up autophagy IF: Intermittent fasting. Shorter daily fasts of 16-24 hours Insulin: Hormone that regulates fat retention. Spiked by eating, especially carbs, potentially artificial sweeteners Keto: Very low or zero carb diet that limits insulin response and triggers ketosis. Ketosis: When your body has used all of its carbs and starts using fat for fuel OMAD: One meal a day Refeed: Ending a fast. Watery vegetables or bone broth is recommended. Snake Juice: Salt water mixture you can drink to supplement electrolytes
For snake juice, is potassium citrate measured differently than nosalt?
Joseph Clark
Gonna try OMAW, maybe without snake juice for a bit. Already been doing alternate day along with some OMAD. Lost good bit of weight think my body is ready for extended fasting.
depends. Doesn't take me more than 2 days normally. You can get test trips for your piss online.
Eli Peterson
Somebody tell me the damn truth about insulin real quicc >Insulin: Hormone that regulates fat retention. Spiked by eating, especially carbs, potentially artificial sweeteners Why does this matter? Isn't it all just calories in calories out? Why should I give a fuck?
Evan Flores
>Insulin: Hormone that regulates fat retention Look at this idiot and laugh.
Blake Reyes
>regulates fat retention That's why it matters
Brody Parker
How can I work out how much sea salt/pottasium salt I need? Like would it change if im younger than [redacted] and could it fuck up my growth if im younger than [redacted]?
Owen Wood
But what happens if your insulin decides that you should retain fat? Where do the calories needed to fuel my body come from then? I'm just wondering how the fuck my fat retention will affect anything, because it's not like I can burn more or less than what I burn

So if i eat my calories in a small window every day, that's better than spreading them out throughout the day?
Tyler Flores
I lift 3days a week and do cardio 1 (Mon-Wed-Fri-Cardio Sat)
is there a point in completely fasting on the days where I don't train since they won't be consecutive days of fasting? (Tues-Thurs-Sun)

>The actions of insulin on the global human metabolism level include:
>Increase of cellular intake of certain substances, most prominently glucose in muscle and adipose tissue (about two-thirds of body cells)
>Increase of DNA replication and protein synthesis via control of amino acid uptake
>Modification of the activity of numerous enzymes.
Enjoy your damaged organs and muscles without insulin.
Gabriel Lewis
>be your body >insulin spike from artificial sweeteners >zero calories to burn >"holy fuck, shut it down, we need this fat" >metabolism slows so you burn few calories >get cold and lethargic rather than burn fat >at least we held onto this fat

Can't workout coming months and I wanna lose some weight with ADF.
It's not like I have any gains to save so I figure I might as well try it. Any tips and tricks?
Nathan Clark
The biggest practical advantage of “”fasts” that still allow you to eat every day is usually that it’s easier to eat less calories. After a few days, you’ll find that you are less hungry throughout the day when you eat during a restricted window. It won’t make you lose weight any better or faster than if you eat the same calories through three meals and some snacks during the day, it’s just a tool that helps a lot of people.
Jacob Parker
Yes. Last two words of OP
Nicholas Gonzalez
That's not how your body works.
Grayson Clark
This is wrong
Adrian Turner
so is there any merit to the claim that fasting will keep my metabolism up? How long do I have to intermittently fast for at a time?
Grayson Long
If 18:6 or 20:4 is better than traditinal eating outside of as a weightloss tool, it’s at the margins. If someone prefers the more traditional method of eating, there’s really no reason for them to drastically change their habits for whatever small benefits it brings.
I agree that people should do what works for them. I disagree that the advantage of IF versus 3MAD is unsubstantial. From the OP: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5064803/
Isaiah Kelly
Your body has plenty of energy it can utilize in the form of your different tissues. In the most extreme case, look at Type 1 diabetic patients -- they're completely unable to produce insulin, metabolize glucose, and so they're body literally eats itself.
In terms of fat metablolization, when insulin is present it inhibits an enzyme called hormone-sensitive lipase which is used to mobilize the stored fats. What matters for people that want to burn fat, when fasting, is being able to control your insulin to become pulsatile so you have periods of fat usage. If you constantly spike and maintain your insulin levels, you'll be storing fat more than you'll be metabolizing it.
Evan Peterson
thank you for the response, but seriously, [citation needed]

Yes, look up how much of the molecular mass of each substance is actually made up of potassium

Haha is that the same idiot who said that if you eat fast enough, your body doesn't have time to absorb the calories?
Justin Jones
Nigga, just check the daily recommended intake on the web.

Should i take vitamins along with the fast?
Matthew Torres
You should always take vitamins. Living in modern world gives you 100% chance to have vitamin D deficiency and probably iron.
Jace Peterson
Is a normal multi vitamin good enough? Sorry for being a retard.
Gavin Roberts
No. You should have a good diet prior to fasting. Supplementation does absolutely nothing.
Kayden Foster
Can you read the label? Compare it to your daily requirement + check how much ions you have in your water. This varies from city to city.
Nolan Watson
I would argue that it depends on the length of your fast. Longer fasts it would be a good idea, but for shorter fasts like 24-48hrs you could get a blood test, see how deficient your body gets, then go from there
Levi Thompson
>Supplementation does absolutely nothing. >Vaccines doesn't work.
I take iron supplements and my red blood cell count went up. I take selenium and my sperm count is up. You are a sad idiot.
Aiden Reyes
Should I take a regular multivitamin? Starting up my fast today.
John White
>Calories in calories out Nah mah boi This is not calorie reduction. We go one step further
Evan Lewis
Coming up on my first 48 and starting to feel the pangs. Nothing else to see here, just wanted to grouse a little.
>40 hours in >no longer hungry Feeling fine so far, gonna try to go for as long as I can. I've got a social dinner obligation on Friday night and I'm worried what a sudden influx of food will do to my system. Should I refeed on broth before then or will I be fine?
Levi Nelson
You forgot to add: >Interestingly, although reductions in the anabolic hormones testosterone and IGF-1 were observed, this did not correspond to any deleterious body composition changes or compromises of muscular strength over the duration of the study
Charles Watson
I'm on my 6th day of fasting and I'm gonna watch Chef. Wish me luck, bros.
wait what? not him. testosterone drops 30% whilst fasting?
Carter Martin
Yeah, enjoy being a beautiful trap after you lose all that fat.
Chase Foster
There's nothing to refute because the statements of fact were correct, but the user's interpretation of the facts are based on the faulty premise that fasting completely eliminates the body's production of insulin.
Even in a fasted state the body is continuously producing insulin and mediating a homeostatic blood sugar level (excepting of course for t1d).
A fatty like that Scot fellow could walk months deep into a fast into a clinic and get his insulin tested and there would still be a basal insulin load in his blood to mediate energy utilization and all the other shit it does in the body.
Josiah Foster
Do we really need that much protein?(2g per kg) Im lean bulking and doing OMAD, but its hard to reach a lot of protons in one sitting Im 1,75cm and 72kg.
Ayden Phillips
TNF-a you fucking halfwhit. Tumor Necrosis Factor - Alpha.
It's part of the inflammatory response,
Because you're apparently too dense to read the actual fucking study: Testosterone total (nmol/L) >Fasted >pre: 21.26 ± 6.51 >post: 16.86 ± 4.25 >p: 0.0001
Summary from the researchers states: Interestingly, although reductions in the anabolic hormones testosterone and IGF-1 were observed, this did not correspond to any deleterious body composition changes or compromises of muscular strength over the duration of the study. It has been previously reported that men performing caloric restriction have lower testosterone than those consuming non-restricted Western diets [56], however, the present experiment did not restrict calories in the IF group. In animal models, IF influences the hypothalamo-hypophysial-gonadal axis and testosterone concentration probably through a decrease in leptin-mediated effects [57], but it must be considered that mice on a an every-other-day feeding regimen consume about 30–40 % less calories over time compared to free feeding animals and that in our study, no differences in leptin concentration were seen when normalized for fat mass. Also, the reduction of IGF-1 in the TRF group deserves some discussion. A previous study by Bohulel et al. [11] reported no changes in the GH/IGF-1 during Ramadan intermittent fasting. Even though it is plausible that IF mimics caloric restriction through common pathways (e.g. AMPK/ACC) (adenosine 5-monophosphate-activated protein kinase/acetyl-CoA-carboxylase) [58], recent data on humans showed no influences of caloric restriction on IGF-1 [59, 60]. It is possible that the increase of adiponectin and the decrease of leptin could influence the IGF-1 concentration, even though it is unclear to what extent changes in adipokines impact circulating IGF-1 levels following weight loss [59].

does eating ass and pussy do anything with fasting? I have a date tonight
Ian Barnes
I'm aiming for a week. Gotta say I don't understand all the angst about snakejuice flavor. It's really not that bad.
Ian Reed
>No protein intake Gee, I wonder? You can make CNS training gainz but don't expect growth..
Carson Bell
Hey /fast/ just giving a progress update. I did a 48hr fast back at the start of february and have been doing 2MAD IF with ~1600 calories a day, ~150g fat, less than 50g protein, and less than 20g of carbs. So far I've lost 57 pounds, going from 350 to 292.6 as of this morning. I owe it all to that fast; I was able to break my sugar and bread addiction, and transition to a much healthier way of life. Without you guys in this thread, I would have never have gotten this far. Thanks so much!
Eli Brooks
I'm 80 hours into my first fast. I can deal with hunger fine, but ever since I started fasting I've been getting bad heartburn. Any tips?
Hunter Kelly
congratulations on improving yourself inb4 >fast harder fag
Brayden Gonzalez
you can get ketosis test sticks not autophagy test strips...
Jason Mitchell
Baking soda in water for heartburn Expect to burp a bit
Noah Long
nice job but you got a long way to go buddy so keep a level head about ya.
how many calories are you intaking with the ass and pussy
Jayden Martinez
Congrats, keep it up user!
Matthew Jenkins
What happens if you drink snake juice but keep eating?
Juan Diaz
You'd just have more necessary electrolytes. That's all snakejuice is. If you're doing keto and getting headaches, you should probably drink some snakejuice too.
Honestly probably does. I'm sure there's some free floating carbs that your sperms live off of when they're in the vaginas waiting for the egg to drop for they can spermulate it
Isaac Brooks
So how do i make snake juice with nosalt not delievering to my country and no local potassium salt brands?
Levi Watson
man im so pissed rn the only reason im so god awful at fasting is my life is so miserable that there is nothing fun to distract me from food all day
You'll be fine. The refeeds these mouth breathers talk about are for extended fasting ie 10 days plus. I've been doing OMAW for the past 2 months. I eat whatever the fuck I want in my 4 hour eating window. Never have any problems.
Connor Stewart
Shit has calories
Camden King
I'll look into it So 3000mg sodium 3000mg potassium snake juice is also alright? Older threads recommended a 3000mg sodium and 4700mg potassium mix
Julian White
Good job, bro! It's a long way for us but we will do it, just gotta keep it up.
Nathan Price
Yeah, that should be fine. This isn't an exact science, just adjust as necessary but don't go over 4700mg of potassium in a day. Thanks guys! It gets easier every day! This is way fucking easier than chicken and broccoli for the rest of my life. If anyone wants my eating routine let me know.
John Peterson
3000mg and 4700mg is too much unless you are super fit or anything. That was the maximum you could put into your drink, meaning if you are a fatty or don't do any kind of exercise you should put less than that.
Grayson Campbell
I am switching routines. I am doing my first routine for 6 weeks (15x3) and actually more than double my start weights
What routine should I do next. I attempt to OMAD to 48s on in the week and fast thru the weekend.
Christopher Green
Is fasting on rest days detrimental?
Josiah Evans
Fast on rest days, because on these days you don't need the extra strength to lift. And no it's not detrimental and it helps some to recover even faster
Julian Sullivan
I'm letting you know
Joshua Perry
>Systems are better than goals.
Have the AI fucking taken over already?
A few days ago Youtube recommended me to watch Sam Harria w/ Scott Adams podcast, where this is mentioned. The next day a friend of mine mentioned this to me, completely at random, now its in the fucking /fast/ OP.
I’m genuinely fucking weirded out by this:

That was the argument of his book, I read it last year, it was called something like How to lose again and again and still win big, or something like that. Excellent advice in it.
Joseph Cooper
You'll be fine, just don't trust a fart.
Nathaniel Barnes
On OMAD, will eating too few calories for the day in my one meal fuck my metabolism similar to how a regular caloric reduction die would?
Aaron Mitchell
you want to make sure to trigger the satiety response. It's my belief in understanding the hormone interplay that satiety plays a pretty significant role in CNS regulation.
Tyler Clark
>And no it's not detrimental and it helps some to recover even faster flat out wrong
