I love alcohol but they’ve been studying it for years and the studies are always inconclusive. Some studies say 1-2 drinks a day is good for you. Other studies say it’s bad for you

So what is it?

Why would literal poison ever be good for you on a daily basis?

So is caffeine but there’s studies that support that it’s good for you too

Drink only on weekends, or only when you're with friends. That's it and you're fine.
I don't understand how people can drink alone. When I drink it makes me social and want to do things and talk to people, play group games and other such activities. It's great to do at social gatherings or parties or even if it's just three friends hanging out. Being drunk alone just seems like no fun

are you literally retarded ? do you think that rat poison is good for you as well ? alcohol is literal poison, your body cant use it for literally anything at all. there is not a single productive process in your body that uses alcohol as an input. how do you not comprehend this ? even if something like a red wine might potentially have components other than alcohol that might be benefitial you will always have the drawbacks from alcohol associated with it so it is irrelevant anyway.

wow you are fucking dumb.

alcohol always damages you, it doesn't matter if you only drink one or two. it's poison and it taxes your system. fucking brainlet

Biological gains aren't the only type of gains.
You can make mental health as well as social gains by drinking to loosen up especially if you're with the right crowd.

irrelevant if we are talking about benefits to the body specifically. you might make social gains with it but so would you with weed or even heroine depending on your social circle so what ?

I am not against alcohol but making up some magical benefits is ridiculous. MAYBE if you drink a small glass of wine a few times a week but who does that anyway ? And that is really the only possible positive edge case the rest is clear as day.

>mental health gains from drinking

The only thing reminiscent of a drug that is good for you are khat and caffeine.

Only take psychedelics if you’re mentally healthy. It’s a big no no if you have depression, schizophrenia or have a family history for that

It'll keep you alive when starving. Not ideal, but something.

Your body can literally use alcohol for energy. Humanity and other organisms have evolved to be able to harness it for energy, it is not simply poison because it can be harmful in large amounts. That's an oversimplification.

>not drinking
>making social gains
Pick one. People who tell you not to drink are the same type of absolutist autists who tell you to be vegan or to do nofap.

so you call yourself a man but you're afraid of drinking alcohol because it will "ruin your figure"
no wonder Jow Forums is full of sad cunts.

acid or shrooms?
for me? it's acid. strap yourself in for a wicked fucking ride.

Isn't the only alcohol that's "good" for you red wine cause it has antioxidants in it. And isn't that really just an excuse for soccer moms to guzzle a bottle a day and not feel guilty?

Alcohol can help dissolve fatty deposits in your arteries.

Helps dissolve fat deposits in blood and it provides 7 calories per gram alcohol.

the studies didn't actually say that alcohol was good for you, they didn't track the cause and effect

the studies found an association/correlation between moderate alcohol consumption and lower mortality. There could be many confounding or unobserved variables

t. economist

What if people tell you have to suck a black cock to socialize?

this is a great counter to the OP's argument, but I think there's an argument to be had that alcohol lowers your inhibitions, thus making people more likely to do and say things their ego might have otherwise prevented, and when everyone's inhibitions have been lowered, people can connect with each other on a less reserved level

Psychedelics have done wonders for my mental health. I have severe depression. I was diagnosed with it as a very young child, along with a few other things. My family has a long history of severe mental disorders. My mental and physical health are both in the best condition of my life thus far, thanks to psychedelics. Tripping gave me a new perspective on life, and the tools and motivation to make a number of positive life changes.

Sure, if you're depressed, you might have a "bad" trip, but those are usually the most beneficial ones. But, in my experience, your demeanor and the mood or attitude you have going into the trip have very little to do with how your trip goes. You're going to feel a little bit of everything by the time it's over anyway.

As for bringing out or worsening mental illness, I don't know about that. I could see it being true I guess. But, if used safely, responsibly, and effectively, psychedelics can help you manage and treat your mental illness

you're actually right

the studies showed alcohol consumption is 'protective/beneficial' in the first place because they INCLUDED people who quit drinking. Guess why people quit drinking. Liver cirrosis and death. Hence, studies showing drinking alcohol protects you. Because if you have to quit for fear of death, then you're fucked already

literally literal literally

It's hell lot of fun for introverts. The sudden hormone release caused by depressants annihilate most anxiety and on a good day it gives a sense of completeness. It makes me forget for a few moments that the life is a constant struggle against the pain of self-consciousness. I especially like blasting autistic music on my headphones, it makes me groove like a motherfucker. In 2015 I watched My Neighbor Totoro for the first time while drunk alone, one of my best memories of last few years.

Fuck you for making me crave that shit for the first time in two years. Booze is dangerous as fuck for people like us. I almost died several times by the age of 27. Got sober, now almost 31. I can't ever drink again, and there you go, reminding me WHY I drank in the first place, faget.

Does it matter, it's good for your soul. Alcohol, contrary to popular beliefs make people happier long term.

"Drinking is another way of thinking, another way of living. It gives you two lives instead of one."

Are you retarded? Alcohol is literally poison.

>Mental health gains from drinking
Oh I am laffin

Shrooms, acid is cool too.
If you want a seriously good trip , you can take ketamime and khole, so excellent, you can control the trip mentally and also if it goes weird it wears off in 30 mins and you just redose to enter khole again.

Even if it does have antioxidants you can get them from other sources

Isn't that a non correlation? I mean of course low alcohol intake is going to mean you won't die from alcohol. Was mortality higher in non alchol drinkers ? Even still it's basically meaningless

Alcohol lowers the chance of a certain type of heart attack but raises risk of other heart conditions. Also bad for every other part of your body. Not worth it.

>Advocating for alcohol on a board dedicated to fitness.

This has to be the most Jewish thread on the board right now.

Technically true but relying on alcohol to connect with people will ultimatley just cause more damage than good. It's always better to do it naturally.

You aren't wrong. Recently cut back from like 10 drinks a day to maybe drinking twice a month. Miss that. I was working nights in the ER as a trauma nurse and after I did CPR on grandmas and help put in chest tubes and shit all night, some of my best memories of that time were coming home, getting drunk as fuck and watching Star Trek TNG by myself.

Be strong man, I learned that alcohol is just a mask for shit that is fucked up in your life. I quit drinking and realized I couldn't work ER/Trauma anymore without it. Got a new job and I'm waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay happier. Don't drink the numbing juice.

Still better than being some faggot that does drugs

loosen up a little dork

Alcohol is bad not only because of the negative health effects but rather the lifestyle that comes with it. And that includes even small casual doses, even in moderation it is really bad because its negative causal effects are rarely seen.

The worst thing about alcohol is that you use it as a stress management crutch often without realizing. It's like that story of the dog that was sitting on a nail and always whining, but it never hurt enough to make him get up and sit somewhere else.

The people who drink some alcohol or get wasted with it do so because their lives are shit and alcohol keeps them in what would otherwise be an unacceptable way of life.

The evils of alcohol are not in what it does to you, but in what it stops you from doing and what allows you to do to yourself. It keeps you sedated enough to keep slaving away for decades at the cubicle farm, in a marriage with a person you hate or paying for decades a mortgage for a ridiculously overpriced home.

Alcohol is a sedative. Alcohol makes the unacceptable feel acceptable.

Alcohol is such a lame second outlook drug. Dissociatives are amazing for that, less addictive, feel better, can be psychedelic if you want, all the positive effects of alcohol, less bodily damage and no hangover.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mithridatism

there's nothing wrong with having a drink with your bros every weekend or so.
But relying on it to be social or a stress management is absolutely horrible for you I agree

This....
Any talk of benefits is from the byproducts that come with the drink...usually red wine...no ones ever said a triple vodka daily is good for x...

I like the taste of beer and wine but drinking liquor alone is a big ol red flag.

>Vasoconstrictor
I only drink when I'm in public (at a social event) and can't take other, more fun drugs. So all the time, now, compared to my old 'once-a-year-when-I'm-too-broke-for-everything-else' habit.
It's not so bad. I don't drink more than once a week or two, though. On a diet, too. I learned my lesson with hard liquor in college.

you're the type of person alcohol helps not have a heart attack because you're too uptight

>this projecting
I drink because I like the taste

Ethanol is literally poison that your body stop's what it's doing to get the fuck rid of

stop pretending you're objective , you WANT studies that confirm that drinking is ok

go knock back some bleach while you're at it faggot

intj/intp alki master race here.

drinking and getting high alone is literally the most fun i've had in my life. stay away if you're an introvert that's not a pussy about substances

In small doses it's fine. Many societies throughout history had to add ethanol to water to be able to drink it safely

Shit comparison brought to you by a total shithead.

If you're white, your ancestors were weaned on alcoholic beverages, and consumed them from breakfast until night time. You have evolved to enjoy them.

If you're a shitskin, who cares?

>comparing alcohol to ketamine

fuck off druggy

Amount is the red flag.

Skulling a bottle of red wine to yourself is worse than a dram of scotch before bed.

Amigosh, literally the best thing I ever read. Literally.

Alcohol is a drug, and drugs are bad for you. It being bad for you physically isn't even the issue. Its what alcohol makes you do. Theres the obvious getting into legal trouble and putting yourself in risky situations in general. But its the ordinary and mundane aspects of it that creep on most people. Needing a nightcap, spending weekends in a bar or some deluded "activity" which is just an excuse to have a few. "b-but you might get laid!" Yeah one night stands are always great sex and fulfilling right? When you start to aim at real positive goals in regard to family, career, health, wealth etc. alcohol provides you nothing. Time is your most valuable investment in life. Until you start to value that and put a literal dollar value to it, you will spend it with losers who are busy wasting theirs.

Gaming online

This I don't drink much, last time was about two glasses of wine with straw berries on new years. Moderation, stick to special occasions like new years smoochie time. Occasionally not regularly like every weekend, don't be a addict.

thanks, user

spoken like a weak faggot with no will power

Exhibit A

I understand the appeal of drinking alone because I did it several times a week for years. Drinking a six pack and enjoying snacks while playing some nice vidya in the middle of the night is maximum comfy. However, it is extremely unhealthy and expensive and it turned me into a skinnyfat, shitty, retarded person. Bros, today is 23 days sober for me, the longest I have ever gone. I have some friends from out of state visiting and I passed my Micribiology final exam yesterday, which saved my grade, so I'm gonna celebrate with them by breaking my streak.

>Some studies say 1-2 drinks a day is good for you
they have LITERALLY NO MECHANISM OF ACTION. the reason it looks like 1-2 drinks is healthy is bc when they surveyed they asked how much you drink NOW. so a bunch of partychads slammed jaeger for half their lives then quit for good only to shit up the 0 drinks category with their asslivers

because having a little fun can help... so you don't become an old grumpy men

>Some studies say 1-2 drinks a day is good for you. Other studies say it’s bad for you
This is probably because they are studying different things, or because scientists framed their study incorrectly via insufficient sample size, poor design, or simply because the media sensationalized something other than what the study actually said.

Resveratrol gets a lot of attention because it has notable benefits and is abundant in red wine. Beer gets attention because brewers yeast is incredibly nutrient dense (yet not abundant in beer itself). Alcohol shuts down Anti-diuretic Hormone (ADH) when consumed. This is the simple reason why you pee a lot when you drink. The notable benefit of this is for patients with frequent kidney stones. A weekly beer is a preventative measure for this population. The studies regarding longevity are usually cited in countries where people have a high activity level and generally eat well already. Saying people that drink alcohol live longer can simply be explained by these people engaging in destressing activities. It's not necessarily alcohol.

Alcohol is bad for your liver, in pretty much any amount. It is doubly bad for anyone taking certain pharmaceuticals as they tend to use the same protein for detoxification (this is why some people get hammered on 2 drinks when they are taking SSRIs). Alcohol also promotes a poor lipid panel and can lead to cirrhosis. As others have said, alcohol is a poison in large quantities. but so is water.

If you are asking what you should drink for health, the answer is: dark beer or red wine.

oh wow yeah lets do what our ancestors did and maybe if we do it right we can also die in our 40s

basically this. would be like going to the lung cancer ward and asking "hey how many cigarettes do you guys smoke every day", then concluding that 0 cigarettes correllates with lung cancer
