/dng/ and most online communities are largely filled with casuals and bad players in general so take anything from there with a grain of salt.
If you want to get good then watch deck profiles and feature matches from top cuts of large events likes YCSs and Nats. Apart from that just play a lot irl or online (ygopro if you aren't familiar with rulings/game mechanics, but Dueling Book if you are because it has an actual ranking system).

It's pretty hard to get into but when you do it is really fun. Play less complex decks like true draco then move onto the more complex decks like pendulum magician's.
