I've never checked those threads out, but I did do intermittent fasting while cutting for the past 5 months. I went from 92 kg to 76 kg, losing seemingly only fat (as my strength remained the same and muscle mass looks similar, although that is harder to gauge). I also felt pretty good during it and was never hungry outside the 8 hour span during which I was supposed to eat every day.
It was pretty cool but I won't be doing it anymore probably since I recently hopped on test and now I feel incredibly hungry all the time.
worst part of a fast is the first 3-4 days as you adjust to ketosis, otherwise you feel relatively fine as long as you supplement correctly.
after the keto-flu period (3-4 days), you gain mental clarity from your brain running on ketones which is pretty nice.
Apart from that, you get the occasional hunger pang or craving on some days but it passes within 20 mins and you go back to feeling normal (dont feel hungry most of the time as ghrelin is suppressed); the mental clarity topped out at around day 20 and I felt slightly weaker every day from that point on.

but in a long term fast or even short term fast, your body has to adjust to not having a external source of energy (keto flu) and can exhibit the stress as flu-like symptoms.
so to summarise, you're in ketosis after 16 hours of fasting but your body doesn't properly adjust itself to a fasted state for 3-4 days.

I find it pretty interesting, although I do not partake myself. The Snake guy is entertaining, and he experiments on himself with progress videos. It is fascinating what the human body can withstand. What little it can survive on when stripped of life's excesses.
Now, when really fat people come into the /fast/ thread and people tell them to stay water fasting for months, I feel like that's a bit irresponsible. I don't know of anybody who has water fasted for a month, let alone a series of months.
