Very quickly, I lifted for 2 years in high school then stopped for almost 4 years. After 6 months of training again I look "jacked" to normies at 85 kg 15% bf.

It's real, i stopped working out for 3 years after HS and despite still looking great, i went from 80kg to 73kg with basically same bf%. Took me only 6 months to get back at 80 on a lean bulk.

It's used in both contexts

I don't remember my exact lifts, but I got to just under 1000lb PL total in around 9 months my first time around (hockey player, started off fairly strong).
Took ~2 years off, took a starting point total of around 700lb and made it back to where I was when I quit in under 2 months.
Muscle memory is very real and fucking amazing.
