The Rat Paradise Experiment

>rats were put into a large housing colony 200 times the floor area of a standard laboratory cage
>there were 16-20 rats of both sexes, food, balls and wheels for play, and enough space for mating
>the rats showed a preference for sugar-water and resisted drinking the morphine water
>only about 2% got addicted
>rats that were isolated into standard laboratory cages drank the morphine water until they died
>another group of rats grew up in laboratory cages without morphine water before the experiment began and were later moved into the rat paradise
>they preferred the morphine water

i read this shit 3 times and i still dont understand what the point is.

rats like morphine is legit all i got from this

>Brainlet detected

He's basically saying that rats that grew up in a fucked up area would prefer morphine water, even if they moved into a nice area and never touched morphine before

Basically it shows that drug addiction is not real, if you live socially and have a good diet and exercise.

they also started exhibiting homosexual behaviour, eating their offspring etc. some use it as an argument for why there's a western decline and decadence.

>Basically it shows that drug addiction is not real
That's not a conclusion you can draw from this at all.

It makes a lot of sense. If you live with a loving partner, have a good partner and lots of friends, have a good job and take part in your community and do a lot of interesting hobbies then you are distracted in positive ways but are also fulfilled.
If on the other hand you are a poor dropout with no friends or family and your whole situation seems doomed you don't have much going for you. Then you remember there is a guy next door that sells an instant way to be happy. So you start taking opiates. After a little while you aren't getting happiness from them anymore but are too addicted to stop. So you keep going until either you manage to quit and go back to your shitty life, or what you had falls apart even more and you end up topping yourself.

>not posting the part where the rats started eating their offspring

That’s the conclusion I’m going to draw whether or not you like it, brainlet

Rats are dumb tho

>Basically it shows that drug addiction is not real

Idiot

Addiction is real and it stems from living situations that aren't conducive to happiness.

Cocaine water was also used I believe.

Yeah very fitness related

Harmful drugs have an impact on fitness.

I think that's a different experiment you're thinking of, the rat utopia one

Morphine water sounds lit

>Addiction is coping mechanism

Good thing you're not a low IQ rat and are able to self-reflect and make changes.

the experiment is clearly about exercise
>there were 16-20 rats of both sexes, food, balls and wheels for play, and enough space for mating

>are able to self-reflect and make changes.
No I am not

Yes you are. It's just easier for you to blame it on your past/current situation than making the effort.

are you implying that sugar isnt a drug? LMAO

Rats that didn't get pussy turn into morphine addicts no matter what

>Give mice unlimited food, water, and anything they need
>Once they hit a certain population level they engage in perverse behaviors until the whole mouse society collapses

It shows the vast majority of fit is still easily manipulated.
