Ive done a lot of shrugging over the past few years lifting and my upper traps are still pretty horrible/non-existent from the front, they only look god when I flex them.

you have to go real fucking heavy on shrugs to get results

Heavy rack pulls above the knee.

My traps are fine without ever doing shrugs, i feel like OHP and lateral raises are more than enough.
But if you feel like you are lacking on that area then sure shrugs will help you.

I've gotten very good results from shrugs. Once I started doing them properly and with the same intensity that I used on other lifts my traps exploded.

do them with heavier weight than your max DL

I can deadlift 160kg for 5, but I can barely shrug 100kg for 5.

Wtf am I doing wrong? my dick and balls get in the way, my back hurts, if I try behind shrugs, the bar hits my ass, so thats also not an option.

Have you seen his hamstrings? theyre non existent. He needs to go back to pulling from the floor, just for the sake of his hamstring development.

Range of motion with behind the back shrugs is less. The bar doesn't need to come above your ass, you just need to have full contraction of your traps at the top.

Are you making sure to properly brace your core during your sets of shrugs? Remember that even though it's a super simple exercise you're still holding a ton of weight infront of your body. Also make sure that the descent of the weight is slow(ish) and controlled. If you're going to cheat, cheat the weight up and lower it down slower. If you're pretty much letting the weight drop from the top position and recatching it at the bottom it will wreak havoc on your lower back.

As for the dick and balls getting in the way, it helps to be leaning forward very slightly during the reps. The bar path should still be straight up and down, but you'll be able to clear your twig and berries. Just make sure you're bracing properly like I said.

All of this is absolutely correct This is exactly how I have been doing shrugs, and it's definitely a noticeable difference; in several areas.

there's no need for most people to isolate traps
