Outgrowing Hobbies

Has any of Jow Forums outgrown any of their hobbies over time? I've been a super avid gamer for most of my life. I'm 23 and it's losing its touch for me. Vidya isn't fulfilling anymore. I want something that has value in a more tangible sense. No one cares about how good I am at pvp in some game. Hell I don't even care once I stop playing it, yet I sank countless hours into getting better at these things.
I want to make better use of my time.

What hobbies are worthwhile? What hobbies improve quality of life and happiness? How did you transition into a better man?

Try lifting

Funny, I got back into gaming because social media is dead, and there are no apparent music subcultures because kids just want to hear mumble rap in low quality on youtube

>What hobbies are worthwhile?
subjective, ask yourself what you think you'd derive the most satisfaction out of doing. A lot of the times the best hobbies are related to us personally and our struggles in life.

What hobbies improve quality of life and happiness?
being into diet, exercise and general fitness. With regards to happiness, that's subjective, read above.

How did you transition into a better man?
You don't, it's a subjective standard

no

you are the very first human to ever do that

Opposite for me. I haven't played any vidya in months, my interest in gaming just slowly regressed into a trickle. It's been almost completely replaced by social media, however I've been trying to get into reading as of lately. Anyone have any good books?

most, but especially violent videogames suddenly became very repulsive to me. the casualness of what are mostly mass murder simulators kind of threw me for a loop. i used to love, say, a hotline miami now id rather just read or do something social

Its hard to not be bored by videogames anymore

Nigger, lift and learn an instrument.

I've been lifting for 5 years now. It's hardly a hobby. It's just something I do.

I've been considering woodworking. I've been playing guitar for years. I'd like to try making one. Im not sure how to get social with that one though

>kids just want to hear mumble rap
Maybe don't hang out with high schoolers then

I mostly stopped playing games aside from fighting games, it's fun because you can be social and fuck around IRL if you're not in the middle of nowhere; it's too bad they're a sausagefest. Other things I recommend are languages, sports, or creative art/music hobbies if you like the practice/grind part of pvp games and lifting. They give you stuff to talk about with normalfags too.

>What hobbies are worthwhile? What hobbies improve quality of life and happiness?
Generally any hobby that existed before 1950 is more fulfilling than wasting time on something unproductive like games or social media. Learn history, play the guitar, learn how to lock pick, whittle some wood, try water colors, go hiking, learn how to shoot. More or less if it isn't something reliant on a complete fantasy (like comics or games) or electricity then it's going to be fulfilling.

>How did you transition into a better man?
Have humility, respect others, don't chase THOTs or any other carnal/hedonistic pleasure. If you're religious at all then go to church, go even if you're on the fence about it. Don't take pleasure in anyone's misfortune and treat people like you'd like to be treated regardless of what they have done or who they are. Be morally and logically consistent as best you can.

There's no hard and fast rules, everything is loose, we all are allowed to indulge a little but some people get consumed. I mean, I am looking forward to the next Avengers movie and all but I will go see it in theaters if I can get around to it, otherwise I'll wait till it's on Amazon. I've got family to see, things I want to do around the house, places to see and a wife I just like spending time with whenever I can.

Diving is really fun
Not necessarily a cheap hobby though

>browses Art of Manliness once

Iv gotten into doing adrenaline junkie shit

Im just hoping its the hobby that kills me

Im the same way with MODERN video games. I can go vack and play classics with no issue, even games ive never played that were released back then, but new shit is just not appelaing. I play video games a whole lot leas than i do lifting or working. I have things that occupy my time, but video games definitely have lost their whimsy.

I feel the same way, used to be able to spend 16+ hours just grinding in games, now it feels so empty, the only game i can really play for more than 3 hours without getting bored out of my mind is new vegas. I wish I could just start living on a ranch in Montana and take care of horses all day, hard work but its actually fufilling.

Thanks for writing this user

Do you put time and effort in to it? Have you gained knowledge in the area? Do you continue to do any study related to it? I'd still call lifting a hobby

Just keeping trying new and interesting things user, don't sweat hobbies coming and going.

I was a massive video gamer, but out grew it too. Real hobbies are friends are more fulfilling.

Learn languages

It:

>gets you laid

>prevents Alzheimer's

>makes you smarter

>makes you cooler

>can be used as a party trick

>can get you a job/a raise/a promotion

>is fulfilling and productive

>is cheap and easy

I've been playing games for 24 years but I also just don't enjoy them or feel motivated to play them anymore.
I've found that cooking and lifting are great complementary hobbies that are very fulfilling.
Could probably use a third hobby though as I spend a bit too much time (and money) online shopping for home gym equipment these days.
Maybe once my 5/3/1 book arrives I'll have more reading to keep me busy

You've got a point but if you're a musician / DJ you will inevitably end up around a fair amount of teens which is a great way to pull 19yo pussy

I missed the Easter Eucharist because I'm far from home. I decided to quit porn, masturbation and videogames for 40 days as a fast.
I failed with porn and masturbation but I've kept steady in the videogame abstinence so far and I don't miss them, I can do so much with my time now. I will go back to them after the 40 days just for fun and certain games but it won't be a 8 hours a day deal anymore.
Funny enough a girl missionary Mormon sister approached me on the train and we talked a bit until she got off, I felt it was a sign that I'm doing things right even if it's one at a time.

Used to love vidya. Now I love running, lifting, and reading.

Music is better than ever especially hip hop. Just kys grandpa

Check the indie rock scene, it's making a rice recently
Also you have mark kozelek, he's good but i personally don't like how he's always seconds from crying

My nigga

I’ve cut games completelty to balance social life, work and training AND LET ME TELL YOU some days there is nothing I want to do more than play a game of wargame reddragon

>dropped fighting games because 8 - 5, working out and new hobbies
>still really fucking want to go to tournaments again but I know I wouldn't be able to keep up and I'd drown in pools
Vidya overall for me has died though I absolutely loved Nier automato, might go play Drakengard and P4G/5 one of these days.

Once you have a full time job any hobbies are hard.

But for me I do boxing since I get my exercise in during.

Has anyone tried the new Monster Hunter game? Is it any good?
