Idk, I think it's worth examining though. Do I have unrealistic expectations of what kind of women I can attract? Certainly I couldn't get pic rel as the skelly I am now... but would I _ever_ be able to get on that level? Or am I just setting myself up for failure?
Not saying you're setting yourself up for failure, the "setting the bar too high" was a bad metaphor. It's great to set the bar high and have goals.
I'm thinking more along the lines of: if you get caught up in going after an 'ideal' you might miss out on something/someone you never would have thought you'd have chemistry with and enjoy.

Just started getting into fitness 3-4 months ago. Down to 216lbs from 250lbs. I'd like to be under 200 by the end of the year with my ultimate goal weight of 180.
