Does Anything Interesting Happen On The Internet Anymore?

I feel like the internet used to be so much more fun in the early 2000s, tons of free MMOs, Flash Games, Jow Forums was still new, it was a fun time. Everything feels a little stale now, is there anything to look forward to or some subculture going on that hasn't been mainstreamed yet? I'm bored.

I completely agree with you. Internet is dull now, id say almost as much as reality

Clever. CLICK THE GIF!

The novelty of the internet wore off for you. Interesting projects, events, and websites are still there there but you have to stop being stuck inside your little circle and explore the vast ocean that is the world wide web.

AYYYY!!!! *ahem* that was cool

I'm not even that nostalgic I just feel like I missed out. Whatever I guess playing in Jow Forums's rotting carcass is fun enough.

That's a shame, maybe I will make my own gay image board or something in the coming years.

Jow Forums is the future of the web

Yeah, it's all about profit now rather than fun. It seems like everyone just gears their stupid websites to be the next Facebook rather than having a cool atmosphere or gimmick. I do like how much content is out there now though, I guess that's a bonus.

I refuse

I'm just pissed primarily because the MMOs are gone, I'm really fucking mad at that. MMOs were the shit, I've never had more fun online than shitting around in Runescape and Club Penguin as a kid. Like what the hell, I'm really mad.

How do I even explore the internet, google just shows the big websites anymore, you get like the same 50 websites no matter what you search. I have no idea how to even start finding new places.

Have you played Drowning in Problems? Not an MMO but a good text based browser game nontheless.

Yeah, I played it a few years ago. I'm hoping his new game will be cool, it looks like upgraded minecraft so far.

The MMO boom of the 00s was fun but lets be honest here about the fact that most of the were shit. I feel that the evolving VR technology might lead to another MMO boom in the 20s or 30s.
>How do I even explore the internet, google just shows the big websites anymore, you get like the same 50 websites no matter what you search.
Search operators my man, learn how to use search engines properly. Just end your query with - and you will remove all mentions of the website from your search results.

It’s one reason I liked Jow Forums at first, reminded me of the old days

>I feel that the evolving VR technology might lead to another MMO boom in the 20s or 30s
I hope for this so much, I think it's very likely that this will happen to be honest. I can't wait to see where we go with VR, hopefully it gets cheaper though, I feel like that's a pretty big problem right now.

same

What, you want the internet to remain the same as it were over a decade ago, or are you just bummed from being exposed to mainstream/reddit internet "culture?"

I'm just upset there isn't an innovation going on I guess. Everything feels like lateral moves rather than testing boundaries. VR I guess is the next phase.

Stop tantalizing me with history I didn't get to experience

Endless-innovation is a linear-progress meme. Really, you should be looking for new original content rather than new hardware.

It was just as shitty as the crap you'll find today, it's mostly nostalgia and novelty.
If you want to experience the cancer then just look at some old BBS forums, some still have posts from the late 1990s. If the websites are gone then you can look them up via the wayback machine.

I like what I have today but people talk about the old internet and make me want it really badly

Jow Forums was an even bigger shithole back then, structured conversation was a near-impossibility. It really wasn't as great as you'd imagine.

>Really, you should be looking for new original content rather than new hardware.
I know that but I feel like we've hit a wall with what can be done through online media in its current state. I feel like VR will be the next step into new mediums of online expression if that makes sense at all.

Subcultures are garbage full of hipsters and posers. The Internet has gone to shit since like 2012 and it's getting harder and harder to engage in a conversation that isn't about retarded memes.

As a rule of thumb, people were, are, and will forever remain retarded.
They're just looking at things through rose tinted glasses or they were underageb& and that was their first online experience so that created a bias in their assessment, it might have been a different brand of shit but it was still pretty much shit --and I liked it just the way it was--

This thread drove me to visit some old anime forum from the mid 00s, there is a thread from 2007 that is still active with the same fucking people continuing the debate they've been having for the last decade.

The saddest thing is that they didn't move on and outgrown anime yet.

where did you get a picture of me

It's fucking mecha you insolent brat!
The topic of discussion was Mazinkaiser versus Grendizer.

Well I like it how it is now, I guess I can be grateful

i feel this so much. god i wish i was born earlier

That makes sense. Mecha fans are often middle aged manchildren.

name of the anime girl?
