You're fucked mate. Have fun sleeping at night with that ringing in your ears
Elijah Mitchell
I have the same problem. Bump
Juan Hall
You're making your tinnitus worse by increasing the volume. If your tinnitus flares up wait until it subsides to its base level before considering listening to music at unsafe levels.
There is no cure besides a mental one: don't think about it and you won't notice it as much. Sounds simple but it works.
Christian Howard
Wait, so you're increasing the volume of sound because your tinnitus is getting worse and then you're wondering if you should just stop listening to music to make it better.
Are you fucking retarded?
Wyatt Hall
Thank you user. I'm only 19 and to know I'm going to have this problem for the rest of my life is kinda a bummer but at least I know I can get used to it
Checked your trips. It's incredible how much stuff your mind can filter out if you want to. I wonder if i can train this ability further. Imagine that, complete 100% sustained concentration . It's like a mental superpower
Hunter Adams
Well then it's a pretty simple solution.
Ether you get less hyped and retain the hearing you have.
Or you get more hyped and lose your hearing.
It's not rocket surgery.
Joshua Rodriguez
I've had visual snow since I was 18, its really not that bad unless I look directly at a clear blue sky.
Jonathan Lewis
this type of common sense has no place for Jow Forums
I have tinnitus, there's nothing really to be done apart from getting your ears checked for wax at a doctor's.
I'm lucky that mine is a constant tone that i can just tune out.
Andrew Johnson
This means that you listen to your music way too loud. Kill your hearing if you want to but you'll regret it when you're deaf.
Better option, but a decent pair of high-end headphones. They have much better sound balance etc. making it easier to strongly perceive the music with a lower volume.
This is also why its easier to talk in some nightclubs while shouting is needed in others, even though you perceive the music in both clubs as the same leven of loudness. The first one has a good audio setup (speakers, reflection of sounds etc.)
Wyatt Edwards
Clearly you two are never gonna make it. Op should blast what's left of his eardrums to make those Last PR's
Michael Bell
Any particular brand of headphones you would recommend?
Brayden Richardson
Pic related from another user.
From me I can say for sure that: alcohol, stress, lack of sleep, make it worse.
Chilling out and doing stuff I like makes it better. After a day of clenching my teeth at work, doing shit I don't want to be doing, the tinnitus when I'm falling asleep is at its worse. After some time chilling and doing what I like, it's not very troublesome.
Also look up Ayurveda vata dosha - basically, chill, have a routine, sleep, eat grounding, sweet, rich, fatty foods. Lifting is a great grounding exercise so lift.
I got it after using headphones for few hours daily. Music wasn't loud but I guess that was enough to do the damage. Now I can't use headphones because for some reason if I'm even wearing them the ringing gets so much louder and it creates an annoying combination of the sound from music/tv and tinnitus ringing so now I just listen to everything through my shitty laptop speakers.
I talked to my doctor about it a loooong time ago. He said he used to have it but you can apparently get rid of it if you get rid of loud noises for a very long time. Fuck that, I like my music and I like it loud, you may be a little different though........
Brandon Howard
I've had tinnitus for ~14 years and spent dumb amounts of money trying to fix it. Can corroborate what this guy says.
Robert Bennett
Ive been researching tinnitus for awhile now. I will give you some tips on how to reduce it. - avoid loud sounds - dont use headphones - dont put anything in your ears - dont let water get in your ear - go to sleep at 10 pm - wake up around 6 am - dont eat sugar (fruits are fine) - dont touch your ears - dont rumble or pop your ears ( only people who can do these will understand ) - dont consume caffeine - dont consume alcohol - dont smoke - try psylocybin mushrooms if you are fine with psychedelics - meditate (this one really helps some people, but its hard to do if your tinnitus is loud)
To all the people who suffer from tinnitus. No worries. I think we will have the cure in 5 years max. There is already an experimental drug showing promissing results. I have been researching tinnitus for a long time now and I think I found an entire new syndrome. Literally noone else on the planet notices the same pattern. I am unironically preparing myself for Nobel Prize in Medicine. Will publish my research and book soon. Wish me luck anons.
When I was first born I had surgery in my ears since they thought I would be deaf and I then got it afterword. It sucks though I have learned to survive by listening to music when t gets really hard to sleep.
Try putting your hands around the back of your head with your palms over your ears and tapping your fingers together. This works for a lot of people.
Nathan Brooks
>tfw you go to a loud concert and everything is muffled in one ear >tfw you go to a loud concert and it's fun so it was worth it the ringing keeps me company
>dont rumble or pop your ears ( only people who can do these will understand ) I JUST DID BOTH HELP
also all of this is unreasonable because I like loud music, staying up late, being intoxicated on fruity girl drinks, and I don't do mushrooms anymore
I could try meditating but I have ADHD and I already got bored just thinking about trying it.
Jaxson Carter
They make it worse overtime. Like listening to loud music will help you ignore it for a bit, but later the tinnitus will gradually become stronger.
Dylan Nelson
Holy shit it works
Nolan Rogers
Got it from an otitis, shit sucks but it's easier to accept it. With time you will learn to ignore it. The only problem is going to bed when it's too quiet but usually I just turn on a somewhat loud fan I have
Blake Howard
>tfw you will never experience total silence ever again Fucking tinnitus sucks lads
Put your palm up to your ears and push against it and hold it with pressure for like 15-30 seconds.
Cameron Richardson
>RUMBLING MY EARS MAKES IT WORSE? FUCK
Colton Fisher
I've had it since I was 7, im now 24. You get used to it. Think of it as a loud clock on the wall, when you think about it it's annoying but after a while you don't pay any attention to it.
Jordan Hernandez
>tfw had Tinnitus for couple of days >wear earplugs trying to fix it >it went away BLESSED
Anthony Ramirez
I've had tinnitus for around 3 years but I forget I have it hahaa When I listen for it, it gets really fucking loud
Not him but Jow Forums have a really good headphone general if you wanna go over an have a look.
Matthew Howard
By the time you're 21, you will barely notice it anymore. I've had it for about two years now. On some days it gets really annoying, especially if I'm stressed out. But most times, I have to actively look for it, just to make sure it's still there.
Alexander Scott
I've had it for 3 and it still causes me extreme distress. I think a lot of it has to do with how loud it is.
Grayson Hall
This desu. Literally the only reason I haven't offed myself yet is because this will hopefully cure it in 2 years.
Dylan Richardson
I reduced my tinnitus by 50% by cutting out soda. Sugar and salt reduction has a big effect. I try to avoid taking in even a grain of salt, which coincidentally how much I'm taking this guy's opinion for.
Parker Howard
Sorry to hear that user, best advice I can offer is to ignore it as much as you can. Also, make sure you don't have a serious case of hypertension.
Lincoln Reed
Wow never heard that one before. Really damn helpful. Why didn't I think of that? You just cured tinnitus!
Seriously though I'm glad you're doing well but remember it can be much much worse. Meme advice like "just get used to it" and "it get's better" really only applies with milder cases. Technically I can hear it well over everything. I'm not going to kill myself but I'm just hoping that research in the next 10 years or so will lead to a cure.
David Hall
>Cure in 2 years this just reduces it by 12 decibels. And even if it did succeed it still has to go through a mountain of fda red tape.
Didn't mean to rustle your jimmies, just meant to say that we're all fucked until someone finds a cure. Read about transcranial magnetic stimulation being able to shut down tinnitus completely... for a few minutes.
The problem with tinnitus that it is basically only subjective, often with no apparent cause so nobody really gives a shit about looking for a solution. And there's not much money to be earned in that field.
Nathan Morales
www.audionotch.com/app/tune/ what is your frequency, anons? 13,440Hz here, the highest frequency I can hear is about 16,500
Lucas Watson
>the EEEEEEEEEE won't go away and is impairing my hearing >oh well, time to crank my earbuds to max volume so i can hear better
Yeah but at least we're getting closer. Tinnitus is by far the biggest untreatable ailment so whoever finds a treatment is basically an overnight millionare.
Christopher Cook
>blasting loud music in my ears is making my hearing worse Well no fucking shit
Owen Lopez
>Only if you can't make your tinnitus louder with your jaw or neck
what if you can?
Grayson Allen
rTMS is great. It could lead to a permanent reduction but only in 50% of people who try it.
Holy shit this. It's been proven that's 70% of people who do this for 4 hours a day for 3 months have a permanent reduction of 25%. It's chump gains but at least it's something.
Carson Jenkins
tfw genetic tinnitus
some of my earliest memories are of being 3-4 years old sitting in the family car while mom got the mail listening to "the whine of silence" which i totally thought was normal
im super protective of my ears because i know it will only get worse as i age. i can only hope med tech advances enough to bring us closer to a cure because it seriously makes me want to kms
Hunter Morris
Only provided the method is difficult and expensive. But I would be willing to pay the price without a second thought.
Isaac Wood
I've read about this device. Looks promising but it's not proven.
It's a device that can get rid of tinnitus in people who can make tinnitus louder or quieter By moving their neck or jaw. It should hit market in 2020
Colton Richardson
i would literally cut off one of my own fingers to be rid of this hell
if my tinnitus disappeared tomorrow i would move into the mountains and spend the rest of my life not making a sound, just enjoying the silence.
Yes it's intended for people with hearing loss. 90% of tinnitus sufferers have HL tinnitus and 80% can modulate it with jaw/neck. So this works for 72% of people with tinnitus.
Elijah White
Oh god please let this pass I'll pay anything to not have to off myself by 2020.
Andrew Rogers
any other umich bros here?
Jaxon Moore
Do you take any medicines? It might be it actually.
Jaxson Bailey
Mine came up at 16 or 17, I really didn't take the idea of it being with me forever well. I'm sitting here at 28 and it just hasn't been that big a deal. You'll move past it and it will just blend in to the rest of your life
Wyatt Turner
yeah, look up ototoxic meds, that's what gave me mine
Isaac Murphy
Even depression and ADHD medicine can cause it. It's not uncommon at all.
Dominic Taylor
Me actually. I don't go to school there but I live 30 minutes from Ann Harbor (where the trial is happening). Gerbil my tinnitus reduced and getting paid for it. You joining? Im trying to get in the trial.
Austin Young
I like how these pharma companies have absolutely no problem making ototoxic medicine that give people tinnitus, but won't fund any research to fix tinnitus. Break em' and leave em' I guess.
Parker Sanders
Allow me to share some tips, anons (been having it for 8 years now + hyperacusis)
- Protect your hearing
Seriously wear earplugs during movies or concerts, or even loud sounds which you can anticipate, or near busy roads. You can still hear what people are saying, you can clearly hear the movie sounds at the cinema.
- If you get tired it becomes more noticeable
Don't worry about this too much. Think of it like a tiredness indicator. I think it's pretty cool (the absolute cope).
- Put on a fan to drown it out. - Don't think about it too much.
Hopefully a cure will come in our lifetime. I only remember silence.
For everyone else. Be careful. You do not want this. If you wanna try it put on a jet engine on youtube and see how long you last.
There is something people don't realise about loud sounds and our ears, you can actually listen to any decibel of sound, just for decreasing amounts of time given how many decibels there are. The fewer the decibels the longer you can listen, the more decibels the less time it takes for damage to take place. There is handy charts online showing the Decibels/Time you can listen to these sounds. Another fun fact is that each decibel is twice as loud as the last and you can inverse the phase of a sound to the exact opposite degree of a duplicate sound (lets say 50dc sound versus an inversed 50dc sound will actually create a 0dc sound).
Am a sound producer/engineer. I know lots about vibrations
I get temporary relief from my T if i play the same frequency on my phone for a fifteen or so seconds.
I only do this when it flares up to unbearable levels. I've tried the back of head thumping and it worked for a moment, but the T was worse when it came back
Julian Ross
That's called residual inhibition. Good news is if you use ACRN for a few months it will permanently reduce your tinnitus by 25%
Samuel Johnson
can you explain that in a tl;dr
Ryan Cox

Brayden Reed
I've been playing in gigging bands for about 8 years, with very loud drummers. My right ear doesn't stop ringing when it's just me alone in a room, even when I have several weeks off from playing music. Sorry m8. If you've gotten to the point where you have it at any time besides the day after going to a loud concert, it's there forever.
Mason Smith
tl;dr damaging dBs are just dBs that you can spend a certain amount of time with.
ex: you can be in an 85dB environment for 8 hours w/out ear damage, but only a few seconds in a 110dB environment.
Gabriel Gray
Side note, turn on the ceiling fan in the early stages. The noise dramatically helps you sleep. If it gets worse, you may need to graduate to a box fan near the bed.
Landon Lee
I would discorage this. In the early stages there's a chance it could go away. It's been proven giving your ears time to heal helps aid the little regenerative properties they have.
Ian Walker

Connor Edwards
Is it just me or are Tinnitus and Visual snow related? It seems everyone with tinnitus has VS.
Owen Stewart
Yes 61% of tinnitus sufferers have VS. It's because of the DCN in the brain firing signals to the audiatory cortex and the Thalamus.
Joshua Edwards
>It get's better Actually statistically speaking, it usually gets worse overtime.
James Turner
When I developed tinnitus, I cursed the world and wanted to kill myself every second of the day, and it took two years to come to terms with it. The hardest thing was actually having hope, because I kept thinking maybe one day I'll have peace again. Of course, I've had to adjust some things in my life to be able to cope (I have a fan blowing 24/7 365 in my room for white noise) and I get anxious being in low dB environs but all in all, I'm back to wanting to kill myself over the other shit and tinnitus ain't even on that radar.
/blog but this might help, you OP. For those two years, I didn't listen to music, I had the volume low on the TV to the point I couldn't make out what they were saying without subtitles, I didn't even vacuum or mow the lawn even with ear muffs, all out of fear that I'd exacerbate the ringing. But one day, I heard a song I really liked and decided to try and listen to some music again. And now, I use my headphones daily. Volume is still a concern but I let it up loud enough that I can get into the music, and the closing line of this ramble is this: my tinnitus hasn't changed a lick. So it may never get better, but it also mightn't get worse. You WILL adapt, so chin up.
Noah Russell
>Now I use my headphones daily I know this a troll but some moron is going to think this is a good idea
Landon Bell
The truth is it's a psychosomatic illness. Nobody ever brings up the fact that it's much like fibromyalgia in that it stems from the brain and not a problem with your body. But everyone's ego is too big to consider that it's all in your head
Read books by Dr. Sarno Otherwise all you find on the internet is shit that reinforces it further into your brain "ITLL NEVER GO AWAY, ITS LIFELONG, IT ONLY GETS WORSE"
I had it bad for months and it went away.
Same with "visual snow" which is similar, these are hypochondriac diseases. Think about it, are you an anxious, chronic worried? You fit the bill for succumbing to these diseases, illnesses of the mind. Unfortunately nobody ever listens, and instead fights to the death that their suffering is real. Yes it's real but it stems from the mind not a structural problem.
Weird how tinnitus wasn't a thing ever brought up in all the wars in years 1800 to 1990 when nobody ever wore ear protection. Think about it.
>it stems from the brain and not a problem with your body what exactly do you think your brain is, dipshit?
Hunter Evans
do it. Sudokus are so challenging they will distract you from the constant ringing.
Sebastian Sanders
If you can even focus on the Sudoku.
Levi Carter
I can barely see them through all of this visual snow.
Colton Lopez
Jow Forumsommando here. Ive had tinnitus for 8 years now. Its definitely the worst thing in my life. Ive gotten more used to it but its still lawful because I can hear it over everything.
I like reading the comments with people saying "you get used to it :DD". Yeah if it's mild. If your tinnitus is BAD like mine, not really. I'm hoping that research can get us a cure by 2030 but that's still a long way away. At that point I would have had tinnitus for 20 years. I don't want to have lost that much time to this crap.
Agree, accepting it is a fact helps tremendously. Nothing you can do now except keep living life and don't fuck it up more. once you do that you won't obsess over it as much.
Carson Price
That's not what that moron was saying he's saying it's all in your head and ignoring it will actually make it go away.
