like what? ive seen him do rack pulls, bench, and ohp with bands, the latter two of which i use myself with great success. we do roughly the same band cycle, i start with 2 monster minis and reduce band tension workout-to-workout, eventually usually getting a rep PR on3-4th week.

bands have less transfer to raw lifting. they work so well for multi ply equipped lifting because they receive a tremendous amount of support from their squat suits and bench shirts at the bottom of the lift. but they still have weights significantly above their raw maxes and at the end of the lift they are supporting it. So in that particular instance, it makes more sense to train with less straight weight on the bar and have the band tension overload on the top part of the lift where the equipped lifter must handle much more of the load on their own.

In the case of chains, they do have a very real value for raw and equipped lifters. For the equipped lifters, the value is fundamentally the same as multiply equipped lifters, only they don't have the same amount of support for their equipment and the weights they are handling, while certainly above their raw maxes, are not as inflated.
But for raw lifters, a smaller amount of adaptive resistance makes sense, and chains accomplish that perfectly. It makes sense to train the body to have to push harder against the weight that it is bearing as this will translate to improved ability to push against the weight in the typical sticking points for raw lifters. They simply don't need as much adaptive resistance as either single or multi ply equipped lifters.

It may have been dropped from later programs but he used to spend a shit-ton of time talking up rows and push presses with bands. Those have some specialised uses but they're terrible as general recommendations. Personally I don't like banded rack pulls (actually I don't generally like accommodating resistance on very short movements for the most part - it's very hard to get the loading right) but that depends a lot on rack height and form.

The fluff stuff is indeed a good use of bands. Arguably non-band accommodating resistance (so chains, reverse bands to an extent, weight releasers if you have them) is good for lowering stress because you can bring down the overall number of sets for the same effect. It's just regular band tension that tends to cause issues.
