Machines aren't useless, they're just not as effective as free weights.

Machines are better for isolation because of the fixed path of the weight. You should be using a mix of compound and isolation exercises.

machines are not bad, they are useful for isolation and if your muscles are tired (like if you benched before and want to do more pecs but your triceps are tired you do flies machine)
Leg press is unironically 100% more effective for quad growth and leg aesthetics than squats
Squat is an ego lift along with deadlift. Useless for aesthetics. Compresses your spine making you shorter, injury risk, inefficient, destroys your knees, doesn't hit quads as well as leg press

Leg press is fucking great. It isn't a substitute for squats because it doesn't incorporate much of anything above the hips.

If you're lifting for hypertrophy and did sets with more than 60% of your 1RM then soreness is actually a pretty good indicator that you did enough volume to stimulate growth.
If you squat 405 and go into the gym and squat 135 for 20 sets of 20 with normal rest periods you're gonna be real fuckin' sore the next day but it probably won't make you grow.

It's just a question of training economy. You only have so much time. If you can reduce your 10 sets of leg press and 10 sets of abs to 10 sets of squats and 5 sets of abs and get the same training effect then that's a win in my book.

No THE exercise would probably be the glute bridge. Sumo deadlift has a better carry for ass than squats also. The squat for a big ass thing is overblown. It is good for an ass but 90% of chicks that hear about it and start squatting all squat in a manner that puts 0 weight on the hips and all in the quads.
Science has yet to effectively link DOMS and muscle fiber tearing. There's very little evidence on what actually causes DOMS, we just know it's not the old lactic acid buildup mindset.
Doms is a sign of muscle damage. It’s normal to have it if you work out but if you get to the point where you can barely get out of your bed it means you are training like a retard and should take it easy. Another reason for getting doms worse than usual is to do an exercise you’ve never done before. I can guarantee 100% that if I ask some lifters to do 10x10 hindu push ups, the next day their delts will be fried.

Until proven otherwise, this is the current consensus. What science can’t explain is how it forms but it is pretty much a fact what happens to the muscles after the effect starts.
Because that's what everyone is taught. Even here a lot of people think it's true.
