Overtraining?

I'm doing Texas Method and trying bulk a lot slower than I did last time, aiming to gain no more than a pound a week. However, I think it's stressing my body the hell out doing an intense strength program while only weighing somewhere between 185 and 190 pounds at 6'3", and my lifts aren't going up even though I'm eating 3500 calories a day and getting enough sleep. My sex drive has taken a hit, I feel tired and have brain fog, and keep having random aches and pains.
What exactly can I do to get out of this hole? Should I just start eating more, should I switch to a different program, what should I do to avoid just banging my head against the wall and hoping things work out?

You're overtraining. Have more rest days.

This is from a couple of weeks ago. I'm aware that I'm small, don't @ me

It's called having shit work capacity. That's what happens when you do extreme low volume programs like TM.

I like your hair, bro

I switched to a four day split version and it's worked ok. The main thing for me was doing deadlifts after 5*5 squats fucking sucked.

Fri:
Light press / bench 3 sets of 5
Volume bench / press 5 sets of 5
Volume squat 3 sets of 5
Sat:
Volume squat cont. 2 sets of 5
Deadlift 1 set of 5
Mon:
Light press / bench 3 sets of 3
Heavy bench/ press 1 set of 5
Tue:
Heavy squat 1 set of 5
Power clean 5 sets of 3

How much are you lifting? Maybe you aren't ready for Texas method. Rippletits doesn't think Texas method is the best intermediate program anymore btw. He says it, "lacks enough volume."

Do you have a link to a post where he said that?

I think he meant that about the traditional 3 day split. Hes update and recommended a 4 day tm split now i think with more accessories.

Stop wasting your time and hop on some roids, a 500mg beginner cycle of test will have you packing on 30lbs of mass in 3 months, not to mention you’ll feel like fucking everything in sight. Test boosts the fuck out of your energy and your recovery time in the gym will be almost nonexistent

I am not that user and this is not a source on what he said but i think you should read this startingstrength.com/article/intermediate-and-advanced-training-a-few-ideas

The problem with TM is that the volume is low as fuck and the answer to everything on it is "eat more". Well no shit, problem with that is that "eat more" is an easy solution in every program - more glycogen and fat is NOT more strength. TM doesn't have the volume for hypertrophy and the primary vehicle for lifts improving is high intensities, which is good but not great.

The one time TM is optimal is if purposely taking a low volume strength phase after a hypertrophy phase.

Sorry but overtraining is fucking impossible on stock TM unless you're strong as fuck.

Lmao. Maybe just don't do fucking TM because it's trash

>everybody always says to hop on gear
>am retarded and never able to find it

Is that trimmed hair around your nipples?

This is what I meant by not enough volume

The four day split doesn't actually increase volume in the primary lifts though.

No TM template I have seen has enough volume for appreciable improvements in hypertrophy, which is the primary consideration for getting stronger to anyone without years of hypertrophy training under their belts.

4 extra sets of RDLs, a couple of back off sets for squats, 3 sets of LTEs once a week - this is low volume.

>which is the primary consideration for getting stronger to anyone without years of hypertrophy training under their belts
source?

OP here. I think we've established that Texas Method kind of sucks, so my question is what should I do instead?

strongerbyscience.com/powerlifters-should-train-more-like-bodybuilders/

from the guy who created the nifty table you're misinterpreting

Barbell Medicine programs if you want something close to rippetoe programs but with appropriate amounts of volume that isn't distributed completely fucking stupidly like TM is

do a bit every single day
don't get sore

dis you are shit at handling lot's eventually you can handle more

just google 'steroid source talk' and wa la

That chart is in fact meaningless shit for anyone who's been lifting for longer then a few years.

We're talking about the short term. If you want peak mass, lift like a bodybuilder and do shit tons of volume.
Strength?
Lift heavy with short reps.
If anyone tells you this is wrong they are fucking retarded and are trying to sell you something.

For long term strength and mass?
Lifting should be seen as a practice that must be done frequently
For mass lift heavy shit for lots of reps and rarely go over board
That's how real oldman strength that will never waiver or dissapear after you lose a gym membership or the gear wears off.

You're all arguing about bullshit that doesn't matter for life long lifters.

>Sorry but overtraining is fucking impossible on stock TM unless you're strong as fuck.
....
You are forbidden from talking.

Lmao. It's got piss all volume. Dyel?

I'd also like an answer to this, OP.

>My sex drive has taken a hit, I feel tired and have brain fog, and keep having random aches and pains.

Sounds like my last 5 years.

thanks kind user

>Wa la

>intense strength program
Poorly managed*, unintelligent*, meme program*

>wa la
This is the person you're taking roid advice drom

you are not going to reach actual overtraining on stock TM

but you can very easily overreach/underrecover, because the volume is done at high intensities and distributed in the most fucking retarded way imaginable

this

I’m 6’4” and had to eat
4000-5000 calories a day to hit 70s big status.

You’re tired and drained because you don’t eat enough, do enough cardio or sleep enough.

I would increase all 3 and stop worrying about your weight. I’m natty and don’t look that much bigger at 250(12% bf) than I did at 185(15% bf)

And take lecithin, coq10, rodiola or ginseng or ashwaghanda, and arginine

>I’m natty and don’t look that much bigger at 250(12% bf) than I did at 185(15% bf)

bullshit

you did not gain more than 65lbs of LBM and end up not looking much bigger

your purported 250lbs and 12% bodyfat puts you at an FFMI of 27, so please post your physique so we can see how badly you've underestimated your bodyfat percentage

This. Consider GOMAD.

questions are thoroughly answered in ss3e and ppst3e

you're an idiot for doing Texas method without having read those first.

95% chance you're till a novice.
