Pull-up Thread

Don't you want to have big enough lats to glide to a neighbouring tree?

What's the best way to grip the bar? I've heard both palm on top gives more stability and strength and others saying you shouldn't do that. What dj you guys think?

The bar should go under your proximal bones and you use your palms to stabilize yourself. This way you don’t put pressure on your wrists for nothing. Thumb position doesn’t matter. It can go under or over the bar.

So under the metacarpals is bad.

You get less brachialis activation thumbless which theoretically means more lat activation

It’s not bad but I doubt people on this board care about false grip. A false grip is good for transitions, like in a muscle up but since you only want to do pull ups, a normal grip is all you need.

>the bar
get rings or die trying

Well I'm actually about to start a calisthenics program. Based on overcoming gravity so I will care about that eventually

MAN IM TRYNA GET COBRA LATS MAN

Enjoy and have patience. It takes time to go through the progressions.

How much weight or how much of my bodyweight do I have to add to look decent?

Using one of those door-held bars is an absolute no-no unless you're a manlet ectomorph weighing 80 lbs.

Buy a pull-up bar with ceiling mounts and spare yourself the trouble. I have one but I'm yet to mount it since there is a school about 50 yards from my home where there are plenty of pull-up, parallel, etc. bars to use for free.

pull-ups work your back you retard

Won't matter after you've built enough grip strength and callousses on your hands/fingers. Whatever your grip, just make sure you don't strain your wrists - they should be kept relaxed and vertical.

Also, don't fucking kip. Everyone hates kipping faggots.

Abusing for pushups

been in the gym for 2 months now and still cant do a pullup. used to be able to do chins but now i cant do that either. think its cause i weigh 20 pounds heavier now and my strength hasn't caught up in that part of my body but idk
