>Motivation
You don't need work on motivation, you need to work on discipline. Anyone can go watch Arnold movies then join a gym, and that glowing pride of looking like Arnold might last a week or two week or six months, but motivation will always fade, and the aspect that really brings you to making it is cultivating the discipline to keep training even when you don't feel like it.

If you really want to start, why don't you just fucking do it? lol

(1/2)
This is the exact fucking opposite to the truth, don't listen to this shit OP and let me explain.

If you have no discipline, how do you get discipline? There's nothing you can do to teach yourself discipline if you have no discipline.
What you need is MOTIVATION.
Discipline is a myth.

What is discipline? How much of it do you have? How do you get more of it? If by practice, how do you practice if you don’t have any in the first place? If you don’t feel like doing something, how do you use discipline to force yourself to do it?

I’ve had many conversations with people who believe strongly in the myth of discipline. It usually goes something like this:

Me: What is discipline, exactly? How is it different than motivation (which is a set of actions we can actually do)?

Friend: Motivation is like pulling you toward something, making yourself want to do it. Discipline is pushing you to do something, making yourself do something you don’t want to do.

Me: OK, so if I have no discipline, how do I get it?

Friend: You practice. It’s a muscle that gets stronger as you practice.

Me: How do I practice if I have no discipline?

Friend: Just do something small, then keep practicing over and over.

Me: But it takes discipline to do that. What specific action do I take to make myself do something if I don’t want to do it?

Friend: You push yourself to do it anyway.

(contd...)

(2/2)
's first comment was meant for )

Me: But that takes discipline that I don’t have. OK, let’s say I’m sitting on the couch and I want to go out and run, or get up and write. How do I make myself do that? What specific action do I take?

Friend: Hmmm. You visualize about the end result, something that you want.

Me: That’s a motivation action, not a discipline action.

Friend: OK. Then you set up rewards. No, that’s motivation. Hmmm. You psyche yourself up and tell yourself you can do it. No, that’s motivation too. You tell people you’re going to do it. No, motivation too. You focus on the enjoyable aspects of it … or, maybe you only do the things you like doing. No, those are motivation things. Huh.

Every single specific action you can take to make yourself do something is motivation. Not discipline.

And that’s why discipline is a myth. It might sound good, but it’s not a useful concept. When it comes to taking specific actions to make yourself do something, the only things you can do are motivation. Not discipline. I’ve challenged people to come up with a discipline action that isn’t motivation for years now, and no one has done it.

Discipline is neither a myth, nor a negative. People don't believe in things generally that they have trouble abiding by.

Discipline is just a part of it. Purpose is the main thing. You must start with a purpose beyond yourself. I'm a Christian, so I tend to my body in a way that I think God would be pleased with. I also like to inspire others through my actions and life lived. Working out isn't everything. Nor is it a super high priority really. But motivation is a feeling. Discipline is staving off whatever it is that is trying to derail your goal. Your purpose.

Those who lack discipline give their strength to others.

Motivation is wanting to be a body builder
discipline is lifting heavy ass weight
If you 'want to be a body builder' but can never bring yourself to lift weight, you're just lying about wanting to be a body builder

Attached: 1510828907505.jpg (850x400, 63K)

I should add to this, it's one thing to be motivated, but when the motivation fades, and it's you in a ring with everything that says you can't, discipline can be a guiding light that keeps you on a path. It takes discipline to keep at something when it seems like the world is against you. Discipline is freedom man.

Nothing about the previous comments implies that I "lack discipline". You're an idiot and "I'm a christian" proved it. Did you even read what I said?

Answer me this: If I have no discipline, how do I get discipline?

You have to be motivated to lift the weight, there's no way you can lift the weight if you aren't motivated to do it at all.

Are you motivated to stab your eye with a fork? No, so you don't do it.
Are you motivated to go to the gym? Yes, so you go.

You have to be motivated to do it, if you had no motivation AT ALL to go to the gym, you wouldn't go. see

Who said I was talking to you.

Get your ego out of here, and only then can you learn.

The humble gain knowledge, but those who "know everything" as per pride, know little, and generally learn less.

Not motivated at all.

I only lift 2-3 times a week for rugby

I especially hate the dieting aspect of being Jow Forums so I never get l lean, but it helps for rugby to weigh more anyway

Because you essentially replied to my comment when you said "discipline is neither a myth..." in every sense except giving me my (You).

I

SPACE

TOO

Just do it. After a week or 2, it will become habit.

This is for everything, not just working out.

Also, you never answered my question.
If I lack discipline, how do I get it?

Literally nobody cares about you and your other faggot friend having an autistic conversation at the high school lunch table you fucking shitheel.

Do you have to watch an Arnold video before going to the gym? If so then you lack discipline, plain and simple. Do you have to look up a youtube video before you do anything worthwhile? Before cooking a meal or driving a car? No, because you have the discipline to do those mundane easy tasks, and clearly not much more. Discipline is the guy who wakes up at 0430 to go running even when he has a cold or whatever, he doesn't have to watch some faggy ct fletcher monologue with 2 steps from hell playing in the background you autistic little virgin. Prospective SEALs or Rangers don't wake up and watch Pumping Iron or Saving Private Ryan to get motivated, it's discipline you disciplineless faggot. Try doing something without external motivation for once in your short (

nigga calm your ass down and listen to his advice. Why did you make this thread? just to argue?

How do I get discipline if I have no discipline?

Bro I'll answer that. You need discipline in order to build upon discipline. Meaning it takes willpower in order to strengthen willpower. It takes momentum to drive motion. If you cannot muster the power to change your habits and take the small necessary steps, you're not human -- you're an animal.

Just a warning, I think this guy has an inferiority complex. That's why he's on here trying to sound so right and what not. Stay away from these people. They don't have your best interests in mind.

I think what's going on here is that some folk are only seeing black and white. Motivation is an elongation in pertinence to having a motive, a purpose, as I spoke about earlier. Having a purpose and the discipline to do it go hand in hand. If you don't love the goal, more than you love lack of pain, then you probably won't attain or reach your goal. Granted rest is necessary, but discipline and love is what differentiates the winners from the losers.

You've given a robust definition of motivation. You've accounted every one of your lively actions to motivation. What do you think discipline is? How can I possibly teach your discipline if you've already defined motivation as the sole source of any action or decision?

Go do something not worthwhile but difficult and tell no one.

Stop indulging random shit that you want to do, for the sake of not indulging random shit.
>inb4 hurr das motivation!!!!
every human task has a motivation if you want to get technical; the goal of discipline is that you are internally motivated by the act rather than the consequences.

If I lack discipline, how do I get it?
I'm not trying to hurt people, people need to understand that MOTIVATION is the key. You must be MOTIVATED to reach your goals, if you are not motivated then you will not get there, end of story.

But I have to be motivated to go and do that thing, that's motivation, not discipline.
How do I get the discipline to do it if I have none?

I’m hoping that if you accept that it’s a myth, you’ll be released from the guilt of not being disciplined, you’ll be empowered to create the habits you want without the need of the mythical discipline.

As I've already said, there's "motivation" to any task same as there's a motive force to any motion i.e. gravity, combustion etc

That's as stupid as asking "how do I drive my car if my car doesn't have a motive force to go accelerate????" and thinking you're some kind of deep einstein-of-your-generation.

I'm not going to reply to you any more. It's late and sure it's not a school night, but you should get some healthy habits and then you'd understand the difference.

You didn't read my entire post, only proving all of my presumptions about you that you really do not listen.

Listen friend, if you want to get anywhere in life, you gotta listen to other people.

Motivation and discipline go hand in hand. One SHOULD have a motive to do something. It requires DISCIPLINE to stay the course to do something. If you do not grasp this, your time here has been wasted, only by yourself.

the conflicting voice of depression in my head telling me to sleep and eat

>How do I get the discipline to do it if I have none?

Start by cleaning your room.

>As I've already said, there's "motivation" to any task same as there's a motive force to any motion i.e. gravity, combustion etc
What does that mean lmfao?
How is that relevant?

But what is discipline? It's indistinguishable from motivation. You MUST be motivated to do ANYTHING.
Cleaning your house? You do it because you don't want a filthy house
Going to work? You're motivated by the money if not something else
Going to the gym? You must be motivated to go?

How does someone like OP work on the "discipline" to go to the gym if he has no discipline, and also no motivation to go?

I have to be motivated to clean my room, that's motivation, not discipline
Also Peterson is a complete shill who is a role model for young men who lack a father figure, he leads them down the path of individualism which is suicidal in the long run as we are not individualistic animals, we are tribal.

I've seen some fucking retarded people on this website but I think this is in the top three for the year

Yeah mr. "discipline dudint exists" has clearly gone off the deep end. He's literally fighting against something he SUPPOSEDLY doesn't believe in.

How can you fight against something that you don't believe exists?

Coleman lifted that "heavy ass weight" because he was extremely motivated to win the next Mr Olympia. It was his extreme motivation to be the best ever that made him into the monster he was.

>doesn't understand middle-school level physics

For fucks sake motivation comes from the same latin root as motion, it perfectly explains the coordination. All "motion" has a "motive force". In the same way, you could say all "human motion" (accomplishing of tasks) has a "motive force" (in this case, "motivation"). You are incorrectly using the word because of how it is used to describe multiple concepts.

Someone who is "disciplined" in the common sense of the word (i.e. does difficult shit without an outside "motivation") has *internal* motivation. You can be internally motivated to do more difficult shit for the sake of doing more difficult shit i.e. waking up early and exercising, or you can be externally motivated to do the same difficult shit.

If you had a gf (kind of a stretch of the imagination desu) who promised blowjobs every time you got up early and worked out that would not be "discipline" because there's a clear external motivation. If you did the same thing but without some kind of clear reward that would be "disciplined".

Motivation is working out because you want to look good. Discipline is working out to work out.

Attached: you.png (800x729, 48K)

If you're such an unmotivated little cuck why don't you just roll over and die? I can't give you the motivation to do SHIT. The only thing you're ***MOTIVATED*** to do is bitch about shit. And guess what? That's makes you a sad cunt. So until you deal with that, you won't ever find the motivation to do anything worthwhile for yourself except be a little shitbaby. You won't find what you're looking for on here bro, tell you that rn

shut the fuck up, retard.

>i'm not motivated
Where did that come from?
Not an argument
What if you're motivated to work out for the sake of working out? Isn't that exactly the same?

You're just a retard Jow Forumstard contrarian who wants to look smart by not understanding the English language. You should ask your mom to monitor your internet usage so you don't stay this intellectually stunted for the rest of your life.

And that's coming from an actual Jow Forumstard who browses daily.

>Where did that come from?

The premise of this entire thread is why you're not motivated to lift weights. Ergo, you are not motivated. You just spun it out of control and made it about your pathetic little hamster-wheel rationalizations as to why you're a pedantic little cunt.

We gave you more than what you deserved. Kill yourself already.

I will give you the first point, but there is no difference between discipline and motivation when it comes down to it.
There is no possible way to make yourself do something if you have zero motivation to do it (e.g. go for a 100 mile run).
You have to be motivated to go to the gym every single time you go, or you won't go.
How would you define motivation and discipline which shows they're different?
I'm genuinely curious as your first part of your response made me question myself.

I am not OP.

Schizophrenia? Where did that come from?

"Motivation is the reason for people's actions, desires, and needs. Motivation is also one's direction to behavior, or what causes a person to want to repeat a behavior. An individual is not motivated by another individual. Motivation comes from within the individual."

Directly from Wikipedia

Isn't that what you guys would call discipline?

Discipline definition (also from wikipedia):
"Physical punishment is a widely debated technique of discipline that can focus on spanking, slapping, and hitting with an object using mild to extreme degrees of force. The general aim is to instil an understanding of consequence in the subject."

Motivation is a meme. It comes and goes. The ones who make it are driven, they decide they're going to put in the work regardless of how they feel.

Here's some "motivation" that will hopefully teach you the right mindset.

Honestly, 3 and a half years in the Army, it's hard to be motivated to work out by myself. Any time a buddy flakes on me, I find it hard to do shit myself because the Army teaches you to exercise with other people any time you do pt.
I tried music, didn't work. I tried engaging randoms in the gym, they don't give a shit so it never worked. So I do home gym now, some music blasting on the soundbar and home theatre speakers, enough to wake the gf and make her engage in her day. Works for me now.

>"listen to this nigger"
lol , tf?
Don't you need to be motivated to put the work in?

That's a based black man, not a nigger. Listen to him.

Stop giving this non-lifting autist (You)'s

You know what, you're right Varg, okay.

How about lifting some heavy ass grammar mein neger

>"based black man"
just lol.

Is too much protein/fat bad for dogs?

My 2 dogs eat about 60g protein and 50g fat per day from beef or chicken.

Been feeding them this way for the past year now, I have noticed they shit all lot less compared to when they were on dog food kibble.

They look healthier though, and they don’t smell at all like they use to on dog food. Their pads and nose are also no longer dry, on dog food their pads and nose seemed dry all the time.

Where does all that meat go though? 1 month worth of their shit now they would have shat out in a week on dog food.
