See your doctor before fasting if you have any sort of chronic illness (type 1 diabetes, malnourished, underweight, pregnant, breastfeeding)

>4700mg of saltless potassium max (NoSalt/LoSalt are high potassium-low sodium salts available in grocery stores or Amazon and the like)
Mix these in a liter of water and sip it throughout the day. The apple cider vinegar and lemon are optional but recommended for 10+ day fasts.
You can also do this if you feel lightheaded, weak, dizzy, nauseous, etc., on shorter water fasts. Don’t do this while intermittent fasting.

Anyone else getting severe hair loss from fasting? I've been doing 48 hours fast/ 24 hours eating limiting myself to 1500 calories for that time period and i've noticed i'm losing a lot of hair from my head.

I'm using snake juice, acv, lemon all the shit. Under this fat I do have a decent amount of muscle so I want to keep lifting an everything. Is that fine as long as I have joos? My goal weight is 170 or whenever I see some simblance of abs.

It's a normal thing that happens to people fasting and even just restricting calories losing weight.
It's a combination of stress on the body and it considers your hair a waste of energy, so some of the hairs will go dormant earlier than they would. After you stop losing weight, the hair should start growing back.

I think you can take a biotin pill to help, but I really have no clue if it works for this

Never go more than 24 hours without water. At the end of your fast, break it with a warm drink. Cold will make you vomit, as it will shock the bacteria in your stomach into a dormant state.

Why the 24 hr limit? Longer dryfasts are totally manageable? 48 is easy, 72 is where it gets harder.

Ketosis takes time to show on the ketostix because even when ketosis starts it does so at a low level then ramps up gradually (it is an analog process rather than a digital one, it doesn't turn on at the flick of a switch).

After the ketones have been created they then circulate in the blood stream until the body decides they are surplus to requirement and passed to the kidney's for processing and dumped in to the urine.

All of this takes time.

If you have a strange taste at the back of your mouth then you are already in ketosis. The ketostix will prove this and show the measures in your urine up to 24 hours after onset of ketosis.

Sure, because once you start fasting you burn through your glycogen reserves in about 24/36 hours (depending on level of activity)

Once you've got rid of the glycogen (which is massively hydrophilic - it loves water), your body will dump all of the associated water which it no longer needs, this is what we call "water weight" and is typically lost at the beginning of a fast in huge quantities.

Most, but not all of the weight you have lost is just water, not fat or anything else. After tomorrow the rate of loss per day should level out to about 1 pound a day or so, depending upon the level of exercise.

If I broke a 24 hour dry fast with some junk food, should I straight go to another dry fast or should I drink some water and eat healthy the rest of the day and do a dry fast tomorrow? Or do a water fast instead?

I agree that there is a relationship between dehydration and kidney health, but 24 hours is not going to make any substantive difference unless you already have associated kidney problems, in which case you probably shouldn't dry fast.

Cole has done a 7 day dry fast without any significant problems and many here have done 48/72 hr dry fasts without issue.

For myself, I am 46 hours into my first 72hr dry fast. No issues for me either.

Not if you eat at or below TDEE (aka Maintenance), however as soon as you start eating normally, even at or below TDEE your glycogen reserves will by rebuilt and this will attract lots of water so you will regain some weight regardless, but it should be just glycogen and water, not fat.

Recommendation is to overshoot your target by 5KG and then allow your maintenance to settle back to around your goal weight.

The tl;dr is that mice with genes related to autophagy knocked out start losing gains. They even test fasting with the genes knocked out and show that without autophagy the mice lose even more muscle in a catabolic state.

What this may suggest is that keeping autophagy going will let us humans continue to make sick gains even in their 30's and 40's (my speculation now, not the study). It is known that autophagy is reduced in old age.

I lied. Went for my evening cycle ride and only managed just over 2 miles before I was dead in the water. Mouth dry as the Sahara and all energy sapped.

Managed 48 hour dry fast, but couldn't get further this time around.

Going to try again next week after I've rehydrated and got my cycling performance back to normal.

Do not combine your two activities.
